We have camped all over the US, and this is the only place we will NEVER return to. Quiet time is supposed to be at 10 pm, but that is when the regulars are just getting cranked up! All of our immediate neighbors had loud music playing, hollering back and forth, and using lots of profanity. Most were permanent members and owned the surrounding sites, which were packed to the max. It was difficult to maneuver our 5th wheel thru the roads to exit because of the tents and storage trailers on many of the lots that hung out into the roadway. facility has a marina and beach, but the beach was always littered. When many of the permanent folks left on Sunday evening, a lot of litter was left too. People walked thru our site periodically, simply because ours was not packed. Spaces extremely tight with no privacy. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We booked Sunshine Key because we are newbies and like to try new places however we do so against our better judgement. Many people told us not to waste our money and implied the place would not be up to par. We like to form our own opinions, so we went anyways. Upon arrival we went to the office and paid our balance. We initially called and asked if we could have visitors and were told by Encore that we could. We asked the office and were told that we were not allow visitors because we had 6 people in our RV. That really bothered me because I would have never invited friends to come over if I knew they would gonna know their word. We then went to our site which was one of the best, if not the best. It was oceanfront and a beautiful view of the old bridge. We toured the campground on our golf cart with intention to locate the nearest bathrooms and we were not impressed. The entrance to the showers have NO DOOR which is a safety concern. The 3 individual showers have loose drains, missing curtains and are just filthy. The light bulbs flicker and it's not well kept at all. Aside from being a safety concern it's also a sanitary concern. Overall, we enjoyed our stay because we showered in our RV and the site had a beautiful view. However, we would not readily return considering the above. Let's just say Sunshine Key isn't on the top of our favorites. The following day we went back to the office and asked again if my sister could come visit and they approved she could for the day. I wasn't able to host everyone but at least she got to come. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The restaurant/snack bar is closed in April for the season, due to the snow birds leaving. The pool was open. Office personnel are very nice and efficient. Has nice sitting room adjacent to the main office with free coffee. Has free WiFi for those at Pool area and Office area. I could not pick up the Wifi with my external range extending antennae at my site. So I paid for the camp commerical option. The signal was five bars out of five bars..excellent signal but extremely frustrating very slow internet. I tried the 3 wifi locations. Very slow "for pay internet" . Cable TV was excellent. Grounds are clean. Very safe feeling. I got the Passport America discount. Be warned not to drive your rig to Key West, they have a restriction to prohibit over sized vehicles parking on city streets...it was a $75 fine. There is a public bus that stops in front of the RV park...but when it drops you off, it is on the other side of a busy 50 mph speed limit highway. You will have to sprint over to the safe side...and not trip or fall...or you are a goner. There a personal chauffeur service for around $50 per person to take you to Key West from the park. I only gave a 7 to the park due to the poor 'for pay' internet. I will use this park again, when I can, as long as I get the Passport discount. I forgot to mention they have a very nice marina and a chevron gas station adjacent to the Park. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here four months. Dec - March. Last time we'll go there. We have been there for 10 winters in a row. They have made some improvements but still a lot of problems. Coral gravel roads, dust from cars and golf carts. Cubans playing music and talking loud. This winter the pool heater wasn't working for 2 months. People flush out there boat engines on there site. Fumes, noise, and water puddles then park the boat on their site. Electric was off 3 times, Water was off 10 times once for three hours. And during that time they put notes on campers doors about a BOIL ORDER one was for two days. People had to wait if they had clothes in the washing machine and if you were taking a shower, tough luck. Office people were nice and does a great job with activity's. For the money we spend there it's time to leave. They'll find someone to take my place. Then they'll leave to. It's a big corporation so all there after is the money. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park with level gravel full hook up quasi-pul lthru sites. It is tight for big rigs to get into and out of "pull thrus" Lots of backing etc. Nice marina and docks, small manicured beach, and pool. Most sites occupied by snowbirds down for winter and very friendly. Cable is good along with cell phones. ONLY free wifi at the clubhouse/pool. You can purchase other wifi for your site. Well worth the Thousand Trails price, but probably not regular rates. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

We have been going to Sunshine Key RV Resort for the last 3 years and every year it gets better. This year we were greeted by the maintenance man as we pulled in. Super accommodating guy who wants your stay to be as great as it can be. He helped us get into our site then wanted to know if we needed help getting set-up. He said it was his day off and he wanted us to relax and enjoy ourselves. He told us about the best beaches in the area and about the best places in the area for happy hour. The park is well maintained with a great marina. The pool is awesome with activities on most weekends. We stayed here for 2 months and can't wait to get back. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Our stay was from May 12-16 2016. Reservation was for a full hookup on the water. When we arrived we were told that they didn't have any sites available with sewer and put us by the main road. After parking we took a walk and found several available sites with full hookup. I went back to the office and they changed our site to match our reservations. The campsites were spacious but the grounds seemed run down with many sites having make shift buildings on them. In Friday the place filled up with mostly tents and a lot of large loud parties. We wanted to have family visit and were told we could only have four additional people but it was very clear that most camp sites had way more people than that. Check-in was fast and friendly. Sites were tight to turn into with a 36 ft 5er; had to back out of my pull-through site because there were too many vehicles and rigs hanging out of adjacent sites. This is a huge resort with mostly all 6 month stay snowbirds, each has their site loaded to the max with stuff.

Very nice pool, beaches are poor, nice pier for viewing sunsets.

For-pay Internet, we did not sign up for. Had to share my water spigot with the neighbor, very low pressure. Cable TV was free.

Key West was 39 miles south, not much to see nearby attractions. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This was our third stay at Sunshine Key and you simply can't beat the location; its own island, close to shopping and restaurants, only 5 minutes to Bahia Honda State Park and only 45 minutes to Key West. The staff is generally very nice and professional. The downside is the park itself. It is truly in need of maintenance. The pool is the best part of the resort. The side roads are partially covered with rock, not pebbles so difficult for walking and riding. Some spots have been filled in on sites and roads in an attempt to prevent extreme flooding, but to no avail. The buildings are in need of attention in general and could use updating, paint and basic tlc. The dock also needs repair and the swimming/fishing pier recently rebuilt is not the best carpentry job I've ever seen. The swimming steps have been removed so the entire area has been taken over by fishermen. The north beach is often covered with a very smelly seaweed, so the whole area is unpleasant. They have added security cameras and the place has improved over 5 years ago but still needs work. They offer a fair amount of activities and the sites are sufficient for 40' RVs with slides. We will go back if the prices haven't gone up too much and hope for more improvements. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Fifth Wheel.

Grounds are overgrown with weeds. Large stones rather than pebbles are on side roads and some campsites, which make it difficult to walk or ride a bicycle. Beach area and waterfront sites have grass that is overgrown with grass 12" high in some places between sites. Cable goes out constantly, most days in fact. Dog waste is not picked up by some owners nor by the park. One female worker drives a golf cart around with large tweezers and picks up a bottle cap or two. Was at the office when one of the workers requested a list of sites that would be vacated so they could check them and clean them up but the lady at the desk told them she didn't keep track of that. Supposedly there is security as there are cameras around, but didn't see enforcement of rules. Sewers back up on a daily basis and roads flood. Rates were raised for 2016, anywhere from 20% to 50% for annuals. Tried to speak to manager several times but she was always "tied up or in meetings." Seems there is a new manager every year. Docks are dangerous, one collapsed while we were here, air conditioning in clubhouse never works so going to an event is not worth it. On a positive note, the people are very friendly and the ones that work the hardest are the volunteers. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

We stayed for 5-days in RV. At first we were having trouble getting our RV in to use the sewer, electric etc. (should have had extra hoses, etc.) After we could not get it right to hook up, we called the office and they moved us to another site for the night. After walking the park I found a site that we could set up easier. It seemed to me to be located on the wrong side? Called the office and they said we could have the site. After setting up I could not be more pleased. The staff was wonderful! The site was beautiful ( on the water) and we enjoyed all of our time there. If there is any negative, the only thing was the distance to the laundry room and the showers looked old, so we didn't use them. We had a motorcycle and it was difficult to go to the laundry all the way across the property, but I made it. I would stay there again! We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure to take extra sewer hose, water hose. Will have to go underneath unit to hookup. Connections are located at the front of the site and on the right hand side in stead of the left. No matter if you pull forward or back up, you will need extra connections.

Other than that I will stay there again!

We stayed here in October 2015 as an Encore special rate of $399 a month plus electricity. We have come here every other year for 6 years now and see improvement each time. This time, we saw a new pier and new cement work leading to the pier. The Internet is a pay situation but worked fine. Water pressure could be sketchy at times. The power (50) amp was fine we were in space 149, right on the marina. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Key West, Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key, local dining deep sea fishing.

This is a good place to visit the keys. Marathon Key has a couple of good restaurants, Sparky's offers 30-cent shrimp and wings during happy hour. There was also a good steakhouse on Hwy 1 on Marathon. On Ramrod Key is 5 brother #2, a really good Cuban market/ diner. Try the Cuban coffee. The area is good for kayaking too.

We stayed here at the Special Encore RV Show special rate of $349. + elec. for the month of Oct. Sites are 30/50A, P/thru, site was long enough for our 36'MH & car. Site are wide enough so you are not on top of your neighbor. Friendly staff, It is on the Gulf with some nice sunsets to view. There is a pool, workout room, cable, WIFI only in office. it is an ok pk for the $349 we pd for the month, but the park is not worth the $991 they normally charge for the month but then that's the going rate for the Keys. Winter rates are way over $1200. a month & like 85-100 a day. Will not come here again unless its on a special rate. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We spend several months here each winter and Encore has a long way to go fixing up this place before they could call it a resort. Even though FL law prohibits permanent residents there are quite a few people who live there all year round and SUPPOSEDLY home school their ill-mannered children. Although the website indicates there is a limit of 6 people on each site that is not adhered to. I have observed 10-15 people on one site. There are kids in the pool under age with no adult. Although promises made every year, the laundry room is terrible, low water pressure, broken machines with outsiders coming in to tie up the machines. Friends rented one of their trailers for $200+/night. Furniture torn, lumpy beds. Cell phone service is intermittent throughout the park, WiFi is non-existent. Their booking policy changes constantly i.e. someone staying 3 months can pick their site and can bump someone who is staying less time. Isn't true. We had people next to us staying 1 or 2 weeks, sometimes it was empty, yet people were told they couldn't rent the site as it was booked. I had an opportunity to observe the "corporate" and "district" people in the office. I can tell you I was NOT impressed with their lack of professionalism and customer relations. On a positive note, the Activities Director is wonderful. She works hard to provide entertainment and activities that are creative and the people having fun are her top priority. If they would get some serious security and REALLY listen to their customers, they might have a chance. Every year there is a new manager, so I'm sure next year someone new will be there again and without the continuity, nothing ever changes. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.
