We spent a total of 14 days here and although we liked the proximity to Destin and the beach, we will not be returning. After a few days, we began to notice rats in the vegetation between our campsite and the next site. We brought the issue to the attention of the park ranger who thanked us but said there was nothing that could be done. He said it was likely the result of local construction where the soil has been dug up, and the rats had to move on and find a new home. Being from the Chicago area, we are not new to rat issues, but thought rats are mostly an inner city problem. Upon cleaning up and getting ready to move to our next campground, we discovered the rats found their way into our Weber Q grill. This is gross and disgusting. Also, if you don't like roadnoise, this may not be the park for you. The campground is just off the main road, and when sitting outside there is constant roadnoise. Lastly, the bathrooms and showers are cleaned daily starting at 9:00 am. Since there are no sewer connections here, we use the bathrooms/showers. The timing of the cleaning is not ideal for most. Other than these issues, we enjoyed our stay. Campsites are spacious, restrooms are clean, and the beach is beautiful. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful state park, because it's so popular we had to change sites after 3 days. But both sites were great, very spacious. Nice walking trails, could be a little more dog friendly. (no walking dogs on beaches). Will stay again. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very well kept park. All private sites. We're glad a previous review mentioned Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou state park. We went there for hiking and kayaking. Had a good (expensive) lunch at Back Porch restaurant. Good beach shopping in Destin. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

One of the nicest parks ever. The camp hosts, the Cooks, did an amazing job keeping the place clean and were very nice. The sites were large, well kept, very private. The laundry was excellent. The path to the beach was beautiful and the beach itself was amazing, not very crowded. My only complaint is getting back into the park, it was frequently difficult due to one line in for day use and campers. We had ordered a carry out pizza and it took 18 minutes to get back into the campground at 6:00 pm. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

My very favorite Florida SP. Beautiful, spacious sites. 1/4 mile to the beach - fine white sand and emerald green Gulf water. No crowds...great sunsets. Fire pit. Nice hosts and rangers. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is our second time here and once again we are not disappointed...the sites are so secluded from each other and very large...the staff is excellent and very helpful... the services are top notch and everything is very clean....strong cell signal, AT&T...no wifi we used our hotspot....big rig friendly and this is one of the few campgrounds we have been to that the clothes line is already there for you....level sites...we got a last minute site so our 36' mh fit with room to spare but most sites are a lot bigger and it wouldn't be any problem....nice walk to the beach and riding your bike around is nice too.....we will be back..... We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

henderson Beach State Park was one of the cleanest state parks we have ever stayed in. Site was level, with gravel pad, and utilities (electric and water) worked fine. Showers and bathrooms were spotless. Campground was easy in, easy out, and had thick vegetation between campsites for privacy. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park is quiet, with a nearby beach and walking trail, but not much else. This would make a good home base for seeing Destin and the surrounding towns, if you have a vehicle.

A really nice smaller Florida state park with lots of privacy between sites. Sitting in most of the sites, you'd think you were the only ones there. The center pull through sites were huge and easy in and out. Our pull through (52) was plenty long, but had a sharp angle to it, so getting in without scraping the nearby bushes was a bit tough. A few back in sites were a bit short, but mostly very big rig friendly. Pretty quite park and even though it is close to a highway, the road noise wasn't noticeable. Lovely, long beach which unfortunately was not dog friendly, but boardwalks and nature trail are. Great Verizon coverage and open sky for sattelite. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

One of the most impressive things about Henderson Beach State Park is the privacy of the camp sites. Sites are spacious and surrounded by trees and dense shrubs. Our back-in site had excellent privacy and space, and many of the pull-throughs were well over 100 feet long. Although there was no sewer at our site, our stay was short enough that it wasn't a problem for us. You can hear the surf breaking, but can't see the water from the camp sites. Just outside the campground is a Walmart, lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. The gate is closed at night but we were given a code to open it after hours. Unfortunately, county law prohibits dogs on the beach, but there was plenty of room to walk our dog in the campground area. There was free WiFi that worked pretty well, and both Verizon and AT&T had strong service. We'd definitely return here. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

This is our second stay at Henderson. Our site was a pull-thru and very private and large. Access to the beautiful beach was a quarter mile walk down a tree lined path. It was right in Destin so good access to stores and restaurants. The only drawbacks were the lack of sewer at our site and wifi which didn't work most of the time. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful park, within the Florida State Park System. It has easy access to an excellent beach, the sites are mostly quite large, the gravel pads are quite thick and fairly level, the staff is very nice, and the location is well within driving distance to wonderful places to eat, etc. The ONLY drawbacks are lack of full hookups and the vegetation is beginning to encroach on the sites. However, these are very minor inconveniences compared to what you get, while here. The books open 11 months out and you'll need to book your holiday stays that day. If not, you'll never get in.

Just about all of the pull-throughs are plenty long to accommodate any size rig. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Wonderful restaurants, an outlet mall, a large shopping mall, wonderful beaches, and a short drive to their sister campground Rocky Bayou. Rocky Bayou has plenty of trails, nice secluded areas, etc. and admission is free with your stay at Henderson Beach State Park. It is worth checking out!

What a nice state park and campground. Our only regret was having just 4 nights booked. We would stay again or live here if we could. Sites are great with plenty of room and a private feeling. We found the walk to the beach to be enjoyable and an opportunity to enjoy nature.

The bath and showers were very clean. There are laundry facilities which are convenient. The only quibble is the lack of wifi, however the Verizon signal was very good. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wonderful long, pull through site, although a little un-level. We had a mess up with Reserve America (our mistake--always check your reservation dates carefully--we didn't), so only able to stay one night. Rangers were very helpful giving a list of all other nearby parks with telephone numbers and called another state park for us. Hey, its February, everything is booked. Very private, large site with patio area with trees and bushes between the next site. Paved walkway right to the beautiful, white sand beach. Utilities worked fine, although no sewer at site, handy dump station on the way out. We would stay again. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Our favorite campground in the Fl Panhandle. Sites are large and well landscaped. Very private. When in this SP you feel very secluded yet you're right in the middle of everything Destin has.
