We stayed a week in our 5th wheel travel trailer. We found the park the be clean, well maintained, and conveniently located to all of the kayaking runs we intended to visit. As others have noted, the Salt Springs are wonderfully refreshing and enjoyable. We stayed in site 56, next to the restrooms. Good WiFi reception, and while not blazing fast, it was adequate for getting mail and checking web sites. We also had decent Verizon LTE speeds. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful Country Club looking entry, paved roads, 30/50 amp electric, water, sewer, paved long sites with mowed green grass between them. The sites are so huge that 2 would be 3 in a commercial campground. They say there is no cell phone coverage but we have 2 bars on our Verizon. They keep the trees trimmed up so there is no worry of scratching the sides of your RV and we are able to pick up Dish. Didn't use but checked out the woman's bath house. Very nice modern 3 showers with private doors with a bench for shower gear. 3 commodes one being handicap as was one of the three showers. The beautiful Salt Springs is just a stone's throw for swimming and snorkeling. Lake George is nearby for fishing. With the Golden Age pass it is only $19.50 per day or for you young wipper snappers it is $31.50 a day. Still cheap compared to commercial parks! We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Motorhome.

Great staff. Level site. Easy access. Even though they said the Wifi could not be accessed from the RV we were able to. It was really good access until the park got busy. Nice and quiet park and the road noise wasn't an issue. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Motorhome.

Stayed here one night on our way north. Great facility - paved roads, easy to navigate, lots of trees, fire pit, picnic table. It was Easter weekend, lots of families out riding bike, playing in the water (surprisingly clear!), hiking, enjoying nature. Very nice paved level pad to park on. T-Mobile had no service, Verizon was spotty. It's a steal for the price. Wait...why are we writing a review? Don't tell anyone about this place! :-) We'll stay here again as we pass through the area, giving ourselves longer to enjoy all it offers. This is a very nice campground with paved roads and sites. Not much foliage but there are shade trees. The space between sites was adequate. Check-in was easy and the staff were very personable. The bathhouse water is lukewarm at best. Beware ticks and chiggers in grass. Cell service is spotty. We probably will not camp here again as it is very remote. Nice park. The utilities work well and the sites are relatively level and easy to get into. We stayed two weeks. There are about 20 tv channels but we had NO t-mobile cell service. A five mile drive down the road got us cell service. The park has WiFi that works (for the most part). Most sites have a tree or two, a table, and a fire pit. The staff is great. It is a quiet place but is in the middle of nowhere. There are two gas stations with stores, a Dollar General, and a couple small restaurants/drive-ins. It is walking distance to the pretty spring to side beside or swim in. A Walmart and other stores are in Palatka to the north and Ocala to the SE. both are 20-30 miles from the CG. If you want to relax and enjoy nature, this is the place. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Motorhome.

Wow, what a nice campground. The bathrooms are extremely clean ... in fact, they are the cleanest campground bathrooms I've ever seen. We loved the look and feel of the park. Enough trees to provide shade, but easy enough to drive and park. No tight spots anywhere, and lots of space between sites. We enjoyed swimming and hanging out at the Springs. Also enjoyed kayaking up and down the river. There is Limited cell coverage, but they do have free wi-fi which worked well 'most' of the time. I know several people who were streaming videos over the wi-fi every night. We were able to pickup about 15 TV stations with our digital antenna, and were able to watch Superbowl and the Olympics. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Fifth Wheel.

My husband and I made an unplanned trip to Florida. Salt Springs was the only campground around a spring in middle Florida with a site available. The complication of our travels is that we require internet access either via a cell provider or the park in order to work during the week. After researching, I was not sure the park had Wi-Fi available and others reported no cell service. I called the park information line. staff assured me they had internet access at the office and in the park. I made a one night booking instead of a week to be safe. When we approached the area, both Sprint and Verizon service dropped to nothing. When I checked in I asked staff if there was definitely internet service at our site. She said maybe but I could always come back to the office for internet access. I looked around and the office area is very small and offers no privacy. We drove to our site and confirmed we did not have cell signal or access to "park" internet. People across from our site had parked additional vehicles along the road. This prevented us from even camping for the night due to not being able to back into the site. The overflow parking is at the far end of the park opposite the tent area. This was where the campground wanted us to leave our tow trailer. It was overgrown with tree limbs that hung too low for us to enter without damaging things on our roof. It was also out of sight from our site. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Motorhome.

Park is in an isolated are so we did not have any cell service (AT&T) Park is well maintained. Roads are narrow so backing in can be tight if others are parked out on/near the road. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Park is centrally located within Florida. We went on day long trips to Both Daytona and Tampa during our stay. Ocala is about 30-40 minutes away and has anything you need. There was a Dollar Store across the street that has groceries, ice, etc.

The check in process was quick and easy. Our site at Salt Springs was on the end of a row, which made it quite large compared to those with neighbors on both sides. Our 34' Class A easily fit on the paved pad with plenty of room for our toad in front of it. The full hookup utilities were well placed for our connections. Our AT&T and Verizon cell signals were good using our booster amplifier/repeater, but quite weak without it. They were working on park wide WiFi while we were there, but it wasn't fully functional yet. Our site would have been difficult for rooftop satellite reception, but we had no problem with our portable dish. Our site was fairly close to the highway, but we noticed very little traffic noise at night. The park itself was also very quiet at night. Salt Springs Campground is operated by American Land & Leisure under a permit from the NFS, and the entire staff from direct employees to work campers were friendly and helpful. We hope to come back for a much longer stay in the future. This park is a bit unique compared to the other federal and state parks in that the maximum stay on some sites is 180 days instead of the usual 10-14 days. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Motorhome.

The "Square Meal" family restaurant is within walking distance of the park entrance, and is open for breakfast and lunch. There are a few other restaurants nearby, as well as a small grocery store and a Dollar General. Ocala is only about 30 minutes away though, with much more to pick from.

We stayed here 4 nights and really enjoyed the campground and springs. Great to have a USFS campground with full hookups and WiFi. Everyone was very friendly and it was nice to relax. Hookups were great and Verizon was fair and OTA TV had several channels. Not much in a 20 mile radius, but that is part of the charm. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. This is our second time camping at Salt Springs Recreation Area. This year I was able to use my Senior Pass, which gave a good discount on camping fees. Our rig was 40' long + a long bed dually truck and we barely fit in Site 15 even with the back end of our fifth wheel hanging way off the concrete pad. We parked the truck sideways and one wheel was a little on the grass, which is not allowed, but no one came by and fussed at us. We love this campground, but wish that AT&T got service here. We were here for a total of two weeks and we had to drive quite a way down the road to get any signal at all. The campground is working on getting wifi installed. It worked one afternoon for about half an hour, then never came back up. I imagine it will take awhile to work all the bugs out, but will be so much nicer than having to drag the computer up to the office to get wifi. The staff were always very nice and friendly, especially one lady!

We were here for a geocaching event and stayed for the huge numbers of geocaches available in the forest that kept us busy for the whole time. We did drive over to the springs, but it was chilly and we didn't swim. We wanted to extend our stay, but our site was reserved, so we moved to site 98 in the walk-up section. Really like this area better, site was bigger and there is a huge grassy area between the backs of your camper and the ones across from you. The only downside to this site was that you had to back your rig up an incline. There are a lot of limbs hanging over the roads. Wish the crew would cut some of them to prevent scraping the taller rigs. We will be back again soon! We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Fifth Wheel.

The staff was friendly and helpful from the moment we drove in. You can walk into the office where there is a sitting area usually used for anyone needing the free WiFi access because it's rare you get any signal once you pass that point, you will however get a ton of TV stations. They also have ice and a few things you might need for the camper. The spaces are very nice and clean when you arrive, they're concrete with "FULL HOOKUP" (Yay!!!). It was quiet both day and at night but there's nothing that divides you from the neighbors it's completely open but we didn't have a problem with it. If you have overnight quests that are unable to park in your area there's an overflow parking area within walking distance of the sites. The springs are really nice (drive there though), there is a roped off area for swimming that doesn't allow alcohol although if you go to the other side of the rope there are usually boats and people hanging out in tubes, canoes and kayaks playing music and socializing..that's where you can drink if you so desire. If you come out of the park and turn left about a 1/4 of a mile (maybe not even that far) on the left there's boat, kayak and canoe rentals and you can get to the springs from there to. You can also launch your boat from there with access to Lake George. There's a gas station, a small grocery store and a large ice machine nearby. Not a lot of shopping or restaurants but that's a good thing sometimes. Enjoy your time there, we did! We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Travel Trailer.
