We camped on site 19 which was a handicap site next to bathhouse. The total park is small, with a couple short hiking trails and swimming in the Blackwater River. It is quiet, in the middle of nowhere. Milton Florida is about a 20 minute drive where there is a Walmart. Most sites are a nice pea stone gravel and level. There is also a boat access. Just up the road you can rent a canoe or kayak. Be prepared to hear a lot of Air Force helicopters overhead, what I call "The Sound of Freedom." The camp host sells firewood and does a great job keeping the bath facilities clean. Although a nice park, I doubt we will return. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Armament museum at Elgin Air Force Base.

This small park is a hidden treasure. The level, gravel sites are generously wide and full hook-ups were well maintained. Hiking trails were will marked and loaded with interesting views. The park is only about 45 minutes from The Emerald Coast, always worth the short drive. This would be our first choice whenever in this area. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to make the short trip to Destin - absolutely beautiful beaches. The quaint little town of Milton was a fun excursion and had all of the things we needed for a longer stay, such as a nice grocery store and laundry.

Blackwater River State Park is about 10 miles from the nearest I-10 exit and it is that far away from a full-up supermarket as well (Winn-Dixie in Holt, FL). But don't let that deter you from visiting this hidden gem. 30 full hookup sites (water/50 amp electric/sewer) are arranged in two loops, one of which has a spacious playground in the center instead of RV sites. Access roads are well paved and wide enough for the motorhomes of today. The sites themselves are level, spacious and designed with very generous buffer areas of natural vegetation between them. Surface is crushed rock which the campground host meticulously grooms for each new arrival. Cell phone service was a reliable 4G (not LTE) with a download speed of about 2.4 mhz, both AT&T and Verizon. No cable TV but good over-the-air digital channels from the major broadcast networks when the wind is calm. Breezy weather gets the tall trees swaying to and fro, disrupting the digital signals. I have no experience myself with satellite tv but I did note several campers going nuts trying to get a clear view of the southern sky. One that I talked to finally gave up while another fellow could get one satellite only. No laundry. Ice may be purchased about a mile outside the park gate. White sandy beach on the river is just a 3 or 4 minute walk from the campsites. No highway noise, no train noise, no loud parties but several times a day pairs of noisy helicopters from a nearby training facility pass overhead. The river usually flows at about 2 or 3 mph making it ideal for tubing, canoeing and kayaking as well as swimming from one of the many pure white sand bars. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a water sports outfitter just a mile or two from the park entrance. You can rent a canoe and arrange for a shuttle service to pick it and you up at the end of your drift/paddle after delivering you to an appropriate launch site.

This is the first time that we have camped here and we loved it! First of all, it's full hookup for only $20 a night. I always like to use the showers if possible just to check them out. They were the best showers that I've used at a state park. Clean and plenty of room. The sites are pea gravel and level, with picnic table, fire pit and clothesline. After someone leaves a site, the campground host rakes the site to level it back out. There are a couple hiking trails. Access to one of them is in the campground and the other about half a mile away. The river is famous for canoeing and kayaking. If you don't have your own canoe or kayak, there is an outfitter about a mile and a half down the road. The park is 12 miles off Interstate 10. The closest grocery and gas is in Milton, about 15 miles away. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Canoeing and kayaking is great! There is a Walmart in Milton which is about 15 miles away.

This is a really pretty, smallish state park. Sites are very wide and seem long enough for most big rigs. We only overnighted so didn't see the rest of the park. Cost was $24 including tax for electric & water. No sewer, but there is a dump station. The hosts even come by and pick up your garbage right from you site if you place a bag out by the road. Didn't use the restroom/showers but checked out the building and it looked great. Big and bright and clean and modern. The changing areas in the showers were small but did have benches and hooks. No wi-fi, but Verizon was two bars. Enough to get email etc. I hope to stay again and do some kayaking on the river. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Truck Camper.

This is a very clean and beautiful campground. The interpretive trails are nice with lots of nice long bridges for the low areas. There is a small beach on the river, although the trail to it was flooded when I was there. There is additional access just down the road a short distance through the public use area. There is a posting to watch for "Gators", but it is Florida after all. I paid $20 per night plus tax via ReserveAmerica, not bad for full hook-ups. Lots of shade, most sites wide enough for large RV and toad side by side on the level pea gravel. The exceptions are sites 1, 2, and 4, which are smaller and have less shade. Cloths lines are provided along with both a fire pit and cooking grill. The playground has shade too. Most sites have vegetation between them so the seem private also nice spacing between. Sites 5, 6, and 29 have concrete pads, though they must be for handicapped campers. I was surprised to get most of my Dish Satellite channels, as my AT&T Internet fluctuated from 0 to 3 bars at my campsite. There is overnight parking for big rigs in the public use area for $5.33 per night. I would have given it a 9 or 10 except that the only dumpster I could find was in the public use area (quite a hike with a bag of trash) and the inconvenience of the registration office being only open between 5-7. The campground is well marked in both directions from I-10. You'll get on HWY 90 and turn at Deaton Bridge Rd (also signage for the park), drive about 3 miles on a decent road over a couple of bridges to the park, then about 2-3 miles to the campground. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful sites, seemingly recently upgraded. Stunning location if you like hiking. Florida Trail across road. We booked site by phone but later found it is easier to use the on-line reservation system as parks are very crowded at this time of year. We would have liked to stay longer. Immaculate level spacious sites. Need your own Internet access. Would have loved to stay here longer. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

This was a wonderful state park with paved interior roads, 30 level gravel sites, strong 50-amp power, and water to all of them. Book this one early, it is very popular! Sites were spacious and widely separated from neighbors. All sites had sewer, a table, and a fire pit with firewood for sale at the ranger station at a reasonable price. The reception to our Verizon phones and MiFi unit was good. It was mostly quiet during our stay, and we enjoyed bird-watching and taking several long walks. There was a canoe rental company just down the road that offered rides from our car to the starting point, then we just paddled a few miles back to our car and took off - this activity is not to be missed! Bathrooms were clean and nice, as were the showers. Grocery stores and other businesses were quite a distance from this isolated park, so come prepared with plenty of supplies. We would have rated it higher except for a couple of items. The rangers were rarely available except in the evenings, which was inconvenient when we wanted to ask questions about hiking or other area attractions. The hiking maps that were offered were useless and trail head markers were non-existent. The other downside was the military helicopters flying over at low altitude almost constantly on several days during our week's stay, and that certainly took away from the serenity of this beautiful place. However, we would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Stopped off here on the way to Disney World. It is a little off the beaten path but it was a welcomed rest stop. Other than the roads being a little tricky at night and the tree that was hanging out in my parking area and made backing in tricky, everything was fine. Very small and secluded place for a good nights rest. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Really enjoyed our stay. Checked in on Wednesday afternoon and checked out on Sunday morning. Since we arrived before 4 pm we went straight to our reserved site and then went back to check in between 4 and 6 pm per instructions. Rangers and host were very friendly and helpful. Site was gravel but perfectly level. A few other sites in the campground are concrete. All utilities worked well and roads were in good condition for driving or bike riding. Restrooms were clean. It was quiet the first two nights but louder on weekend nights since the campground was almost full. Good area for biking, canoeing and hiking since it borders the state forest. The park is pet friendly, but pets are not allowed on the beaches inside the park. However, we were able to let our lab swim by driving out to the end of Boat Ramp Rd in the state forest. Milton is less than 15 miles away and is worth the drive just to get donuts and blueberry turnovers from the Milton Bakery. We hope to stay here again. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful State Park, rangers and camp hosts very helpful. Paved roads with level fine gravel sites. FHU's are well placed and work well. We had to maneuver a bit to back a 42' toy hauler into site #26, but it was doable. We were able to find Dish network satellites after moving our portable dish onto our roof (Superbowl weekend), but all sites have beautiful pines and are not very satellite friendly. Verizon voice service was fine, data was erratic but usable. Dog friendly with usual leash and building restrictions, excellent walking paths along river and around lakes. Restrooms were extremely clean. About 10 miles to grocery and fuel. Daily trash pickup at site. Host rakes and cleans sites after each use. Minor issue: close proximity to heliport, daytime noise can be annoying. We will stay here again. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Blackwater River State Park is a nice, clean, and quiet park in north Florida. The 30 spaces are arranged around two loops with a central bath house between the two loops and a campground host on each loop. The gravel lots were level and well maintained with a built in BBQ grill and a fire ring. The river is just down a very short path. While we were in the park, they were experiencing river flooding so all of the beach areas and boating access areas were underwater. We would like to come back when the river is at a more normal level. Choose this park for a nice quiet camping experience. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Very well kept park. All sites are clean, your garbage is picked up daily and the staff is very friendly. There are several places to swim within the park. The water was very clean and cold. On a hot August day, that's just what we needed. Sites were easy to get in/out of, hook ups were updated and nice new gravel at each site. Our cell reception/internet was very spotty. We were impressed with this park and the ranger. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great State park that is far from the highway and in a very beautiful setting. Great sites with full hookups. The river beach is great and it is just a nice place for a night or for a week. We stayed in site #5 and it was a very wide concrete pad. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.
