This little gem of a park is in the middle of a restored Long Leaf Pine and wire grass forest. It is kept impeccably clean by the camp host and I found that even while I was off on a day excursion, our site was raked and blown clean. The sites are very generous in size and have a picnic table, fire pit, and clothes lines.

The Blackwater River runs through the park and we paid the nearby Blackwater Canoe to transport us and our kayaks upriver for a leisurely and beautiful 3 hour trip back to our truck. You can also rent canoes and kayaks from them. If hiking is your thing, there are several short trails that take you down to the river and through the forest. We will definitely be back! We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Even though the park is relatively remote, nearby Milton has everything you need. You must try the Milton Quality Bakery on Hwy 90! It is a diet destroyer.

This is a small well thought out park. Very clean with host family that picks up garbage every morning, rakes sites for next campers, and keeps park very clean. Sites are roomy. even have hammock sites. Small clotheslines and fire rings provided at each site. River has many sandy beaches and there's a nice roadway ro walk or bike. Trails lead along river. Enjoyed our stay very much. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Nearest large town was MIlton. No laundry on site, which would have made this campground perfect, but loved camping here. Kayak rental available or bring your own....great on the river, which has a nice current.

This was a small park, clean, shaded lots, staff was very nice and helpful. First time camping with our TT, facilities were clean, nice little park. My only two complaints are we could not get service with AT&T and the yellow flies were out of control. It was not enjoyable to sit outside the camper. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great time in a fantastic park and floating the Blackwater River with our children and grandchildren. Reserve almost a year in advance! No bad sites that I saw. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We knew in advance this site was going to be really tight for trailer AND vehicle, but we made it work with our 27' Jayco TT. We had room to pull the vehicle sideways in front of the trailer. We will definitely return.

Overall Rating:

Small, but well maintained campground! Lots to do! Great location for kayaking and canoeing. There are nature trails and places to bike. There is easy access to Blackwater River and it's sandy beaches for those who want to enjoy a swim or an afternoon in the sun. There is also access to the Florida Trail that passes near the park and a boat ramp for launching a small fishing boat or kayak/canoe. For those who need or want to rent a kayak or canoe, there is an Outfitter about a mile south of the campground. One thing I found disappointing was the number of reserved sites that were not occupied! By our third night, about one third of the 30 sites had no occupants; even though they were reserved! Nice for us; however, there were probably people who were not able to take advantage of this nice state park. One thing you will hear are numerous US Navy training helicopters flying in the area. They generally fly high enough to not be a bother. A surprising thing for a state park (that we've encountered) is that they pick up your trash at your site between 8 and 11 AM daily. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

One of the best state parks we have ever camped in! The park provides a great opportunity to boat on the Blackwater River, which is one of the best floats in the Gulf South. Park is very well maintained. Sites were level, well drained, and very shady. This was our first time to camp there and we will try to return. Beautiful park and our site was spacious, surrounded by tress and foliage. If you are looking for a park with amenities this is not it. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is it. Walked the trails by the pavilions which was interesting. Nice white sand beaches. Canoe and kayak rentals nearby. Some helicopter noise but no big deal. TiTi loop has the best sites- deep with both 30 and 50 amp hookup as well as sewer. Site 25 has the most privacy but also recommend 26,23,21 and 27. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Blackwater River State Park is about 10 miles from the nearest I-10 exit and it is that far away from a full-up supermarket as well (Winn-Dixie in Holt, FL). But don't let that deter you from visiting this hidden gem. 30 full hookup sites (water/50 amp electric/sewer) are arranged in two loops, one of which has a spacious playground in the center instead of RV sites. Access roads are well paved and wide enough for the motorhomes of today. The sites themselves are level, spacious and designed with very generous buffer areas of natural vegetation between them. Surface is crushed rock which the campground host meticulously grooms for each new arrival. Cell phone service was a reliable 4G (not LTE) with a download speed of about 2.4 mhz, both AT&T and Verizon. No cable TV but good over-the-air digital channels from the major broadcast networks when the wind is calm. Breezy weather gets the tall trees swaying to and fro, disrupting the digital signals. I have no experience myself with satellite tv but I did note several campers going nuts trying to get a clear view of the southern sky. One that I talked to finally gave up while another fellow could get one satellite only. No laundry. Ice may be purchased about a mile outside the park gate. White sandy beach on the river is just a 3 or 4 minute walk from the campsites. No highway noise, no train noise, no loud parties but several times a day pairs of noisy helicopters from a nearby training facility pass overhead. The river usually flows at about 2 or 3 mph making it ideal for tubing, canoeing and kayaking as well as swimming from one of the many pure white sand bars. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a water sports outfitter just a mile or two from the park entrance. You can rent a canoe and arrange for a shuttle service to pick it and you up at the end of your drift/paddle after delivering you to an appropriate launch site.

This is a small Campground as far as sites go. We stayed at this park as a overnight too and from our trip to Louisiana. Sites are nicely graveled sites. Sites are gravel base, each has W/E/S, outdoor grill, firepit and picnic table. Camp check was easy and very friendly ranger. Host on the campground takes pride in the camping area. The bathrooms were spotless, host wife cleans the restrooms and never heard a complaint from anyone about it being dirty. Plenty of hot water in the showers, nice clean toilet, showers and nice shower heads. We did not explore the whole park as we were here for one night going and one night coming but would definitely keep this on our books to stay again if we travel that way. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for one night with 3 small children - wish it could have been for longer! This is a beautiful park that is well maintained. The host was super friendly, even offered to help us back into the site. We stayed in site 25, perfect length (we didn't need to disconnect our 35' trailer) with lots of privacy. Playground was great for my 3 and 5 year olds. Wish we could have explored the trails and beaches, but we didn't have time. Definitely a good value - just need to make sure you reserve early for this gem of a park. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We spent a very pleasant two weeks In this very pretty and clean campground. This was our second stay here. Finding full hookups in a state park is wonderful! The hosts also provide trash pickup every morning! The only thing that would make it better would be laundry facilities. You have to contend with the military training helicopters flying over on a regular basis but you get used to them. Check before coming in the spring as they frequently burn the pine forest In the park. Due to several rains during our two weeks we didn't have to deal with the smoke but it could be a problem for some people. Plenty of hiking trails and it was a good bicycling area. We'll be back again some day! We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

My family and I have camped here several times this summer and have yet another spot reserved in September. The fees for all state parks increased from 12 to 22 dollars but we feel this campground is well worth it! They are still renovating the walk way from the campground to the river so until it's done you'd have to use the Main Trails to get here. Bike riding, hiking and walking are the main things to do at this campground besides canoeing or tubing. Both are lots of fun! The river is cool and refreshing on a hot Florida day. The campsites themselves are graveled, many equipped with clothes lines, fire pits and a grill. Some of the sites are very short so when you make your reservation be sure to look at the site length before hand. We'll definitely be camping here again! Overall Rating:

Beautiful, tidy campground of spacious, level, newly graveled sites amidst pine & deciduous woodlands. A few sites relatively private, with woods on all sides; some sites close together or back up to other sites, with only a wooden rail between. Bathhouse newer, reached by boardwalk; tiled, very clean. River has fishing, tubing (just outside the park) and swimming areas; nature trails available, though they were flooded when we were there. Road into the park can be flooded at times after heavy rain. Very peaceful - no road noise - but there are Navy helicopters flying over at all times of day (and sometimes after dark), due to a nearby training facility. Park charges a daily admission fee of $3 but this is included in camping fee, no extra charge to registered campers. Park is isolated, with only very small towns nearby, and there are no stores within the park. Campground host & rangers friendly & helpful. We would have loved to stay a week or more! We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.
