for the price they charge they should be cleaning and remodeling bathroom and showers. at the splash part there was trash all over the ground. trash cans full. At the beach there are leash law for dogs. people was letting dogs run loose, no alcohol allowed lady was walking around with frozen bag of alcohol, dog using the bathroom about 10 feet from where i was laying on the beach as i was laying there. life guards said nothing. got up next morning to walk the beach it was a mess, trash, shoes, cloths and trash all over the beach. other than that the camp site was nice loved the beach but for the one day. there should be more patrols on the beach seen (1) in 7 day stay. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Travel Trailer.

grocery store within 10 miles lots of eating places and shopping very convenient to the camp ground. Ice house just outside the gate to the park cheaper than the ice at the camp ground store.... the rental on Kayaks and Bikes was quite expensive so if you have your own i would bring them. They charge $25.00 a hour for rentals

Had never heard of this park but decided to give a try. This is a wooded campground. Like you're in the woods right off the beach. Lots of tree cover and undergrowth between the sites. For me that's a plus! We stayed on site 47, which was flat and plenty wide. Noticed some sites that weren't as wide, others bigger. The site was clean with nice, newer hookups. The bath houses were older but the camp host cleaned them daily or even several times per day. They still show their age so don't fret when you first see them. They could use some repair but very usable. There are only two washer and dryers in the park. Expect to wait on them. Short bike ride to the beach which was also clean. Nice playground for kids and couple of fresh water lakes. Bike trails everywhere but none paved. Camp store had what we needed. Staff was friendly and seemed ready to help. This is a City of Jacksonville park. They don't advertise it to get people from all over it's meant for the people of Jacksonville. Expect the traffic to increase closer to the weekend. Ignore the "officers lounge" outside the entrance. It'll give you a bad vibe but we never heard anything from the place and I'm fairly certain it's a strip club. When you first see it'll make you wonder if you're in a sketchy campground but that wasn't the case. Security rode around at night and watched the main entrance gate. We plan on going back for sure! We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is owned and operated by the city of Jacksonville. I spent 3 nights in site 22. All of the sites are in a thick oak and palm tree setting, the main roads thru the park are paved. Site 22 was not a good site because it was unleveled and was basically "sugar sand" that you would sink into as you moved about the site. But when I was out on my walks I would see that a number of sites were more level and with firm soil. The campground entrance is only about 1/4 mile from a beautiful beach on the ocean, we did enjoy walks on the beach. The bath houses were normally pretty dirty with shower curtains that looked very old and moldy. But the worse thing I noticed was that the sewer connections at every site extended up vertically and then they had put a 90degree turn in the pipe. Some of these 90's were a couple of inches off the ground and other were 10 to 12 inches off the ground. And every RV that I looked at had their flexible line with a 90 on the end connected to the site 90 which made a dam for the solids. I even saw one site where the park had installed 2 90's right behind each other which ended up with the connection being straight down, not good at all. The power and water was fine , no cable. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Read comments concerning sewer connections and maybe be prepared with a straight connection on the end of your hose instead of standard 90 connection. Enjoy the beach. There is a great seafood restaurant about 4 miles away at the old fishing village of Mayport called Singletons.

You can't beat this park for convenient access to the beach. You have to pay to get into this park (unless you're camping there) so there isn't a very big crowd on the sand. The campground was quiet. The spots are wooded and feel private. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are drainage areas in this park. Consider where those areas are when you choose your campsite because the bugs will probably be much worse at a drainage-adjacent site than at a farther site.

This is a city owned rustic camping facility & as such the roads although paved, are narrow, twisty, broken pavement and have some very tight turns. However, with some far sighted planning, I was able to negotiate the roads with no problems with our 40' fifth wheel (and we were about as deep in the park as you can get). When making reservations, the max length is 45' and in most cases, that is pretty "spot on". I chose a 40' site and true to form the site was about 45' long and I had to park the truck sideways in front of the 5er with no room to open the doors on one side. All sites are mostly shaded with overhanging tree limbs & spanish moss making it kinda "dirty" if staying for any length of time. Security is good (saw City Police drive through). Beach access has several entrances (9) along the main drive into the park and campground. All in all, it was very convenient to beach, shopping, eating & services you would need. We would camp there again. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a nice park with a lot to do in a fun area to visit. The park gets a lot of day use and the camping crowd is mixed--everything from families to party goers to full timers. The sites are private and nestled under a lot of vegetation so private. People drive a little too fast for comfort to let your kids go very far in the campground, but a fun place for families nonetheless. We would definitely stay again. Tons to do around here. Safe Harbor seafood in Mayport has amazing steamed shrimp you can pick up, very close. They also have a market if you want to cook your own. Jax Beach, Ponta Vedra, Neptune Beach all nearby. Lots to do in Jax. River taxi, river walk, Sweet Pete'a was a huge hit with kids. MOSH fun science museum nearby.

While at this park I was planning to give it a much higher rating, then we were ready to leave. Apparently we were lucky when we entered, because we had no problem with the roadways or trees. Just the opposite on departure. VERY narrow, twisty roadways with almost impossible turns for our 32 ft. fiver. Many palmettos scraped, and several near-misses with trees. And that's too bad, because otherwise this is a wonderful beach-front campground, especially for a city-county park. I don't usually base my ratings on a single park feature, but these roadways are exceptional. If you are using a big rig, forewarned is forearmed. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Fifth Wheel.

City park, very wooded, right next to a beautiful beach. Mature trees between sites make for a lot of privacy. Very quiet at night. Roads may be a little tight for some but going really slow helps. This was my second stay here and I will stay again when in Jacksonville. The beach is too close and too beautiful and clean not to. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

This was our first time here and we were a bit disappointed - the location and beach are wonderful but the campground seems a bit of a mess - why are cabins and tents mixed right in with rv sites? We had a loud cabin group right next to our site and the playground was next to us as well, and even though it was marked closed after sunset, parents allowed kids to play until well past midnight - not cool - and staff was no where to be seen patrolling the camp while we were here - lots of kids roaming unattended and - granted, it was a very crowded holiday weekend - the restrooms were filthy. Strongly recommend keeping rv sites apart from tent and cabin folks. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

This was our very first campground experience. The campground was extremely wooded. Roads are narrow with branches hanging into road on some locations. I think it needs to be groomed somewhat for better access. We arrived after dark which was a daunting task considering it was our first time. The area has zero lighting so be sure to bring a flashlight. Our phones didn't provide anywhere near enough light. No wifi which caused my husband to go into panic mode. We are glampers not campers!! All in all it was a pleasant experience. With our first campground set-up under our belt we will know what to reserve next time such as a bigger lot and easier access. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Travel Trailer.

The beach! Hanna Park features one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The pristine beach is two and a half miles long. And there is a lake and water park on the west side. The 450-acre park is heavily wooded with an abundance of maritime hammocks filled with majestic live oaks draped in Spanish moss. There are bike and hiking trails throughout the lovely forest.

The sites are long and sort of level - level enough. The electrical service, 50 amps was recently upgraded. The water at 340 ppm is fairly good. Television reception is good though the trees block satellite reception on most of the sites.

There are 175 sites which are just this side of overgrown. Well, the whole place is just this side of overgrown. But, I like the wild ambiance. However, if your rig is tall, you will lose your antennas and incur some scratches. The interior roads are tight and narrow as witnessed by tree damage.

The location is convenient to all of the attractions of Jacksonville and Atlantic Beach. A ferry is available to take you across the river to Amelia Island, the Kingsley Plantation and points north. Hanna Park is also near the Mayo Clinic.

Shorebirds, wading birds, alligators, and foxes all call Hanna Park home. From May through October, sea turtles also nest on the beach.

It's a government run, city, park with all that implies. The park is usually nearly empty year around. But, on some holidays the locals fill it up. The workers tell me that's the reason they keep this wonderful place nearly a secret - "So there will be space for the locals." They have accomplished that. Often it seems like we have the place to ourselves.

Typically, there are a lot of host campers - some days they seem to outnumber the customers. You will rarely see the city employees outside of the office, and I guess the host campers don't trim trees. There are a number of facilities for groups and/or rallies. Alas, they are all closed - too much work to maintain and to clean up after. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

Upon arrival we were offered opportunity to unhook and visit campground to determine site space (recommend). It is good that we did as many sites indicated on map by length would not accommodate our big rig with slides. We found many level sandy sites that would and enjoyed a quiet week amongst full canopy of palms, oaks and pines as no satellite but 20 antenna stations. Roads narrowly paved, new full hookups at all sites, leaves and palm branches covered sandy sites, mostly level, 5 minutes from beach. Will definitely return if in Jacksonville area. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

We are full timers so we prefer a little more grass and concrete and not so much sand and dirt. Other than that it is like a typical state park campground. A bit overgrown and by Monday the restrooms are usually a mess.

The beach was very nice and the lake was good for canoeing and fishing. The spaces were spacious for our 37 ft fifth wheel, truck and car. The picnic tables should have been replaced a few years ago.

The main reason for the low ratings is that we were there when Mayport and Kathryn Abbey park had a record rain fall of 13.5 inches in 24 hours. Mud everywhere and a river running under our camper. (not the parks fault of course). Not one person came around to see if we were OK or if we needed some help but as soon as I threw some of our muddy mats and rugs over a tree branch to hose them off attempting to dig ourselves out it did not take long before they left us a nasty note to get our stuff out of their trees.

Not privately owned and the city employees have nothing invested. I get it!!!! We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The beach is within walking distance and is really nice.

If you want to visit Amelia Island, which I highly recommend, take a right at the second light out of the park and go directly to the ferry. Easy on and off and about 40 minutes closer than the highway.
