Hanna Park is a pearl in a raw oyster. It's wonderful but you have to dig it out yourself.

I stay there often for its proximity to Mayo. Others because of the beautiful beach, tropical forest, and good fishing. The park is lightly occupied during the week, locals come for the weekends. Holiday weekends pack the park.

The online reservation system is greatly improved and is usable now. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

This campground is awesome! It is a little tight when talking bout getting big rigs in and out of there but you can. I would not try to navigate this place at night though a lot of mature oaks. Easy access to the beach very close to the campground and the park always looks clean. I've been here a lot and the only bad thing about the park is the staff, not management, they have always been great; it's the useless people who "just work" at the counter and open the gate for you to enter...no smiles, no thank you, no have a nice day...Just annoyed faces. Please don't let that stop you from enjoying this place. This campground is truly one of the best parks I've been to. I still keep coming back and just shrug off the rude staff as "I guess good help is hard to find around here" We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed 11 days. The park is hard to rate. Its not a place i would choose because the sites are close and unlevel. However given its location next to the ocean I am rating it higher than I might otherwise. It was a longer drive to St Augustine then I planned but doable. It's relatevely quiet during the week. Our spot was decent and our 35' with tow and dolly fit on the spot. The utilities were unusual (sewer) but worked well. There are two gates you must enter and exit. The campstore is okay. Our site had a lot of vegetation making it private. Some sites would have been a disappointment but ours was good. The staff is very friendly. We found a publix about 5 miles away and Walmart about 8 miles. We would stay again because of the location and privacy on the beach, but the road conditions leave a lot to be desired. They're narrow, twisting, treed, and there's missing pavement on the sides of the roads. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

We love this park for a couple of reasons: 1. great sites 2. the beaches. This is our second stay at the park. We stayed 2 weeks. The bathrooms are dirty and not all things work. The park seems slow to recover from the hurricanes. It is a great place to stay with dogs because of all the places to walk and they are allowed on leash on the beach. This time we made a list of sites that we liked for when we return. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are a lot of great seafood places in the area. Go to Safe Harbour Market & Restaurant BUT do it at a non standard meal time and NOT on a weekend. Also, the entrance to the military base is VERY busy early in the morning. Avoid leaving the park during that time if possible.

Overall Rating:

Hanna Park is a beautiful city park located northeast of Jacksonville on the Atlantic ocean. The interior roads are narrow and winding and can be a challenge for big rigs. But we were able to negotiate our 45'MH just fine by taking it slow. The map provided by the park codes each site by the size RV it can handle. This isn't always accurate. Some of the 40' max sites could handle our coach. Recommend you tour park before deciding on site. The park has many live oaks which provide wonderful shade and many sites have foliage in between for privacy. The park is well-maintained and camp hosts are available and helpful. We did not use the bathrooms or showers so cannot comment. Our site (#171) is a back-in with a view of the lake. This is a very popular park and was very busy on weekends. But during the week, it was quiet with few campers. Note: The park has recycling bins for plastic, cans and paper only - no glass. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hanna Park is convenient to good restaurants. Check out Safe Harbor Seafood, Engine 15 Brewing (great Cuban sandwich and excellent beer) and Metro Diner for breakfast or lunch. Or take the nearby ferry across the St. John's River to Sandollar Restaurant for some great seafood.

Clean well kept park. Roads in camping area narrow and tight for large RV's. Have to watch trees when negotiating interior roads. Most sites level and a little narrow. No cable. Did not use rest room facilities so can not comment on that. Small camp store and front of camp area with limited stock. Bike rental available. Short walk to beach. Several bike and hiking paths. Staff cleans each site as people leave and ask if everything works OK shortly after you arrive . Would stay here again. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

This was our second stay at Hanna Park. We stayed for two weeks in a motorhome. Our site was a pull thru near the lake. We like the tropic feeling from the trees throughout the park but the roads are narrow and sometimes challenging to navigate. We enjoyed being able to ride our bikes to the beach even though it was too cool to go in the water. While we were there, the park fills up noticeably for the weekends and it isn't as quiet as during the week. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

We were here for the weekend. We did not use any of the amenities, we were here to go into Jacksonville during the day. We had spot 140. It was level. The sites are narrow, some long others short. Good water pressure and electric with sewer hook up. The roads are narrow and twisty around the trees. They seem to keep the lower branches trimmed back. for the price they charge they should be cleaning and remodeling bathroom and showers. at the splash part there was trash all over the ground. trash cans full. At the beach there are leash law for dogs. people was letting dogs run loose, no alcohol allowed lady was walking around with frozen bag of alcohol, dog using the bathroom about 10 feet from where i was laying on the beach as i was laying there. life guards said nothing. got up next morning to walk the beach it was a mess, trash, shoes, cloths and trash all over the beach. other than that the camp site was nice loved the beach but for the one day. there should be more patrols on the beach seen (1) in 7 day stay. grocery store within 10 miles lots of eating places and shopping very convenient to the camp ground. Ice house just outside the gate to the park cheaper than the ice at the camp ground store.... the rental on Kayaks and Bikes was quite expensive so if you have your own i would bring them. They charge $25.00 a hour for rentals

You can't beat this park for convenient access to the beach. You have to pay to get into this park (unless you're camping there) so there isn't a very big crowd on the sand. The campground was quiet. The spots are wooded and feel private. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are drainage areas in this park. Consider where those areas are when you choose your campsite because the bugs will probably be much worse at a drainage-adjacent site than at a farther site.

This park is owned and operated by the city of Jacksonville. I spent 3 nights in site 22. All of the sites are in a thick oak and palm tree setting, the main roads thru the park are paved. Site 22 was not a good site because it was unleveled and was basically "sugar sand" that you would sink into as you moved about the site. But when I was out on my walks I would see that a number of sites were more level and with firm soil. The campground entrance is only about 1/4 mile from a beautiful beach on the ocean, we did enjoy walks on the beach. The bath houses were normally pretty dirty with shower curtains that looked very old and moldy. But the worse thing I noticed was that the sewer connections at every site extended up vertically and then they had put a 90degree turn in the pipe. Some of these 90's were a couple of inches off the ground and other were 10 to 12 inches off the ground. And every RV that I looked at had their flexible line with a 90 on the end connected to the site 90 which made a dam for the solids. I even saw one site where the park had installed 2 90's right behind each other which ended up with the connection being straight down, not good at all. The power and water was fine , no cable. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Read comments concerning sewer connections and maybe be prepared with a straight connection on the end of your hose instead of standard 90 connection. Enjoy the beach. There is a great seafood restaurant about 4 miles away at the old fishing village of Mayport called Singletons.

Had never heard of this park but decided to give a try. This is a wooded campground. Like you're in the woods right off the beach. Lots of tree cover and undergrowth between the sites. For me that's a plus! We stayed on site 47, which was flat and plenty wide. Noticed some sites that weren't as wide, others bigger. The site was clean with nice, newer hookups. The bath houses were older but the camp host cleaned them daily or even several times per day. They still show their age so don't fret when you first see them. They could use some repair but very usable. There are only two washer and dryers in the park. Expect to wait on them. Short bike ride to the beach which was also clean. Nice playground for kids and couple of fresh water lakes. Bike trails everywhere but none paved. Camp store had what we needed. Staff was friendly and seemed ready to help. This is a City of Jacksonville park. They don't advertise it to get people from all over it's meant for the people of Jacksonville. Expect the traffic to increase closer to the weekend. Ignore the "officers lounge" outside the entrance. It'll give you a bad vibe but we never heard anything from the place and I'm fairly certain it's a strip club. When you first see it'll make you wonder if you're in a sketchy campground but that wasn't the case. Security rode around at night and watched the main entrance gate. We plan on going back for sure! We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a city owned rustic camping facility & as such the roads although paved, are narrow, twisty, broken pavement and have some very tight turns. However, with some far sighted planning, I was able to negotiate the roads with no problems with our 40' fifth wheel (and we were about as deep in the park as you can get). When making reservations, the max length is 45' and in most cases, that is pretty "spot on". I chose a 40' site and true to form the site was about 45' long and I had to park the truck sideways in front of the 5er with no room to open the doors on one side. All sites are mostly shaded with overhanging tree limbs & spanish moss making it kinda "dirty" if staying for any length of time. Security is good (saw City Police drive through). Beach access has several entrances (9) along the main drive into the park and campground. All in all, it was very convenient to beach, shopping, eating & services you would need. We would camp there again. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Fifth Wheel.

While at this park I was planning to give it a much higher rating, then we were ready to leave. Apparently we were lucky when we entered, because we had no problem with the roadways or trees. Just the opposite on departure. VERY narrow, twisty roadways with almost impossible turns for our 32 ft. fiver. Many palmettos scraped, and several near-misses with trees. And that's too bad, because otherwise this is a wonderful beach-front campground, especially for a city-county park. I don't usually base my ratings on a single park feature, but these roadways are exceptional. If you are using a big rig, forewarned is forearmed. This is a nice park with a lot to do in a fun area to visit. The park gets a lot of day use and the camping crowd is mixed--everything from families to party goers to full timers. The sites are private and nestled under a lot of vegetation so private. People drive a little too fast for comfort to let your kids go very far in the campground, but a fun place for families nonetheless. We would definitely stay again.
