Overall Rating:

Typical beach type campground, in the sandy scrubs. Sites are separated by vegetation, but you can still see your fellow campers at most sites. Site 40 is fairly large and more secluded than most of the others. The ocean is across the road. Depending on the time of year and the wind, be prepared for no-see-ums and mosquitoes (we did not have any issues in May). Bathhouse, while not new, was satisfactory. Nice short trail, worth taking, in the campground. Fishing area on the river adjacent to the campground. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Motorhome.

Little Talbot Island is more of a tent campground than for RVs. Many sites are too small for any camper, and while there are a handful big enough to squeeze in a 25-30' rig, they don't leave much room outside for enjoyment. It's tight. They are generally secluded & shady, though, which is nice. Beyond the sites, it's in a beautiful wild region. If you're lucky enough to have one of the few sites with a view of the water (15 & 16 are the only RV sites that qualify IMO), you have a spectacular vista... which is unfortunately a bit spoiled by the road noise nearby. That's worst down at the end by sites 1-2, but you can hear it across the campground. Wilderness amenities (beach, kayaking, fishing, etc.) are plentiful, but most require a drive to elsewhere in the park or one of the "sister" parks in the Talbot Island area. Finally, no-see-ums were a bit of a scourge at times. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves, but this park is not in the same league as Fort Clinch, just up the road. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed in site 28. My trailer a bullet premier 23'. Site was tight, but I could get trailer and trick in. Fire ring is moveable. Picnic table moveable. Most have poles for clothes line etc. with water and electric close to each other, 30 amp and 15amp plugs. Site was level ,but brush and tree limbs close by. Road in is narrow. Largest trailer I saw was a 24', many tents and pop ups. Campground has code gate. Access to beach is across highway A1A where front gate is located and check in. Board Way, picnic area and bath house by beach parking lot. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Nice campground on the marsh with a great beach side area as well for day use (no camping). Our site #37 was pull through, but very few of the sites are big rig friendly, and many have overhanging tree limbs that would be problematic for any rig other than a tent. The sites nearest the pier and boat launch parking will accommodate larger rigs, but the park roads are narrow, unpaved (very dusty), and are not one-way only. Also, at many of the sites the water is on the opposite side and well away from the electric hookup. Ours was 30-35 feet away, so be prepared with a spare 25' water hose! Groceries are over 30 minutes away going North or South on A1A. The Harris Teeter at Fernandina Beach was horrible and we opted to just drive south for everything. Sand dollar restaurant south of the park was excellent. Good Verizon coverage and full range of OTA channels. Lots of historical sites nearby and great biking along the beachside. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Talbot State Park is divided into Big Talbot and Little Talbot, which is the further south of the two, and actually has camping. Little Talbot itself is divided by FL A1A with the Ranger Station, check-in, and Atlantic beach access to the east, and camping and river access to the west side of the road behind a gate.

Our low service marks are due to the borderline rude ranger working the evening shift the first night. All of the other rangers we encountered were very pleasant.

This site is mixed RV/tent access, and some tent campers had last used our site leaving the fire-ring in the middle of the RV slot. Not an issue, but always a reminder to inspect your site before you back up.

We did have a humorous encounter with some other campers while here. Across from our site is the park's "ampitheater" and is marked with a sign that closely resembles the universal wi-Fi icon. While chatting with a couple walking their four legged friends, they commented that at least we were at the end of the park with the wi-Fi. My wife pleasantly told them that the wifi didn't work at this location, so they weren't missing out on anything. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Unbelievably beautiful foliage in this park, but that beauty comes with narrow passage on the bumpy roads in the campground. Big rigs need not apply. Our 26' fifth wheel made it, but larger (especially taller) rigs would have difficulty. We stayed one night on the way south, and liked the park so much, we booked two nights during our return trip. We enjoyed that stay so much, we then booked a two week stay next spring. I think that says it all. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent our day at the beach, which was uncrowded and very wide. Had a nice dinner at the Sandollar, which is on the river and only a five minute drive south from the park entrance.

I really wish I could rate this higher and maybe if we had came at another time it would've been different. This was around the time of a passing hurricane so the camp area was mushy wet from the abnormally high tides just going out, the picnic table had so much algae on it that it wasn't useable at all. Other camp sites had standing water around the tents, thank goodness we had a travel trailer! You couldn't use enough bug spray, the mosquitos had rib cages..but we made the best of it for the time we were there. There was a nearby boat ramp to the marsh area and the beach area wasn't that far of a drive. You could also rent kayaks up the road. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice small park. Well kept. CG entrance and loop road a little rough. Campsites vary in privacy from sparse to very good. All shaded, level. Has small hiking trail, marina and pier at campground and larger hiking trail at the beach area. 2 mile bike trail. Good beach, picnic facilities and playground. Convenient cg to other associated parks and sites in area, J'Ville, Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach. Really enjoyed our stay here. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Enjoy the beach if you are so inclined. Good easy hiking and biking, fishing. There are 7 parks/preserves in Talbot Island State Park. Little Talbot Island is the only one with campground, but definitely take day trips to the other six from there. Very interesting area. Close-by is Jacksonville, Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach. The latter two very interesting small towns.

The campsites and roads in this interesting state park are small. Our 29 foot motor home was just about the largest vehicle you could get in there. The park covers the entire island, with a road running through the middle. The beach is on one side of the road, and the campground is on the other. There is plenty of parking at the beach. The campground is loaded with vegetation, huge live oak trees, Spanish moss, and vines. It looks like a set from Jurassic Park. The campground also borders a wetland area with kayaking and fishing. The campground is in a depression and cell coverage is non-existent. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

When we stayed here there were not a lot of campers here. The sites are fairly isolated as you have a lot of vegetation and trees between sites. You have to check in at the main park entrance then get a code to punch in the gate to get into the campground. This is a good idea since the campground is just off of a heavily traveled highway. The campground is on the south side of the island with very pretty views. It is an easy walk across the highway to get to the beaches. There is an access point at the campground where you could put in a kayak/canoe to paddle through the marshes. There is a short trail next to the campground and a longer one (4 miles) across the street. Lots of signs posted for no pets on the beaches. The restrooms and showers were cleaned daily and there was lots of hot water. We received 15 channels on the TV and Verizon cell service had 3 bars. Park rangers and camp hosts drove through fairly regularly. We would definitely like to return here. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Motorhome.

The road into the sites needs to be filled or plowed due to the deep potholes. There are many low hanging trees to watch out for. The staff is knowledgeable but was not particularly helpful. The beach access is across the street and it was very nice with boardwalks, trails, bicycle paths and restrooms. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Truck Camper.

We stayed here two nights. They have a small boat launch for the canoe and the park has some sites you can be on the water. The roads do have the live oaks that drape over the roads. We have some problems with making the some turns without scraping the side of the RV. Had to hold the branches while the turn was made and had to trim some branches to keep the rubber roof from getting gouged. We let the staff know what we had to do. The campground was quiet. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

It is a very nice clean campground. The ranger station sells firewood for a very reasonable $6 per bundle (cash only). The location makes it a great place to see the sights such as the historical Kinglsey Plantation and Ribault Club. The ferry to Mayport is also fun. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Tent Trailer.

This is a nice, family friendly campground. Across the highway from the campground is the main part of the park right on the ocean, about 5 miles of private beach reserved just for park goers and campers. On the campground side of the road/park are salt marshes and a fishing dock. Less than 5 miles south of the park is the Mayport Ferry landing that takes you across the St.Johns River to enjoy numerous great restaurants! We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Tent Trailer.
