We were in site #48 Lake View Loop . . No sewer at sites. There is one dump station on exit road on the way out.. The dump station is not within walking distance of the Lake View camping area. We would have to drag our portable grey water containers about a mile. Some of the Handicap sites have concrete pads. The park had very few campers when we were there so it was very quiet. Lake View Loop. 54, 55, 56 are pull through sites but have limited or no shade. 42-49 are tucked away on a small loop off the main road and are all shaded back-in sites. Sites 68-74 are mostly shaded and closer to the lake but no view from those sites either. I would be cautious of 68-71 as I noticed they were prone to flooding during the heavy rain. Some are a bit tough to back into because of the trees and overhanging branches but manageable with a helper to help you back in. The bathrooms were very clean and had at least two shower stalls each for men and women. I think all the sites have fire rings and picnic tables. It is a typical Florida state park set up. The sites are hard pack sand with leaf debris on the ground. Our outdoor mats kept the majority of the dirt from getting in the camper.

The park is over 2,000 acres so it is a big park and built back in the 30's by the CCC. There are plenty of paved roadway to ride bikes or walk on and plenty of back wood trails to hike as well. Several lakes on the property one of which is designated for swimming (but watch for alligators). We did not swim in it. That lake is a mile or more from the Lake View campground section. They do have an amazing picnic area near the swimming lake and a large activity building but we did not go into it. They have a set of nice cabins for people to rent who don't have RVs. You need to make reservation through Reserve America and there is a discount for our National Park Senior passes so the two nights cost us under $30. All-in-all we liked it and plan to go back in the winter months. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Motorhome.

Had not been to this park in five or more years. It seems to be in better shape than it was my last stay. Staff and volunteers were nice. The park it self is very clean and in good repair. Lots of trails and a deep gorge, deep for Florida anyway. We will be back. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here a couple of nights. We were on a new ADA site that was concrete, otherwise sites are a packed sand/rock/coral. OTA tv was good with about 20 channels; however, Verizon was spotty 2 bars Max 3G with occasional 4G. Area is somewhat remote, but that is part of the charm. Very well kept and clean. We would stay here again. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We try to camp here once a year. The lake is back open after years of being closed due to low water levels. There is a sandy beach area for swimming and canoe rentals are very reasonable. This is a park where the bathrooms and showers are always clean enough that we all shower in them instead of in the camper. Staff is continuously riding around so the park is VERY clean. On our last trip we had our Girl Scouts out and it was very challenging for them to find ANY litter to pick up, LOL! The trails are a highlight here. There are large ravines and streams with heavy shade. Very cool and scenic hike. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very interesting geological features. Located in a remote area among ancient sink holes that have filled with clear blue water. Park has several lakes with white sand beaches. A ravine is a feature in this park with a hiking trail that travels through the ravine along a creek that bubbles out of the ground and flows into one of the lakes. Park is set in pine flats and is busy in winter so book ahead. We would stay here again. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The campground has a lot of wildlife. We saw turtles, wild turkeys, and deer. The sites could be spread out because the park is huge. The only disappointment was that there was no sewer available. The work camper was wonderful and very knowledgeable. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

You need to drive a distance for anything. Your best bet is to head toward Jacksonville to do any shopping. There are no supermarkets closer than 20 miles.

Nice park. Well designed. Well kept facilities and friendly staff. Most sites are shady and level, dirt/sand. Hiking and biking is good. Interesting ravine to hike. Depending on rainfall the lakes may or may not have much water. Saw wildlife. Plenty of picnic and playground area. Two distinct campground areas. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Motorhome.

Wonderful, quiet park. Only drawback is no sewer and dump station requires tight maneuvering for longer rigs. Will definitely be back. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed on Spot 38, a grassed exceedingly spacious spot. #36 &37 were same. Staff was great and made you feel welcome! Nice hiking trails including part of the FL Trail. We did not see any 50 amp sites and lack of sewer hook-ups would limit our stay, but a nice place to visit with unusual for FL. terrain features! My brother and his wife stayed in a cabin while we were there and they were very pleased with it, also. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice quiet park in rural Florida. Clean restrooms and showers. Large picnic areas with pavilions. There is a beach with lake swimming. The sites are fairly level on sand or gravel. Larger units should use the Sandhill loop as the road through the loop is paved and the others are really wooded with gravel road access and are tight. Our cost was 10.00 per night because we are Florida residents and we are over 65. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Motorhome.

We were a family of six, and stayed for two nights in the Lakeview loop. (There is a view of the lake beds through the woods with a short walk, but lakes are dried up so no actual water view.) Campsite was outstanding, very large and backed to wooded area. Bathhouse was incredibly clean with large shower areas. However, hot water was hit and miss - one stall each in men's and ladies' had full hot water, others had lukewarm or cold. Nice place to spend a long weekend with some great hiking trails and good playground. Sad to see dried up lakes, but interesting to walk around and observe exposed lake beds. Beautiful, very large park. Lots of wildlife (deer, turkeys, alligators). Bath houses were old, but in very good shape and kept very clean. If you like quiet and relaxing, this is the place. If you need large towns, cell phone, etc., this place is not for you. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This quiet state park is located well away from the normal Florida bustle. There are two campgrounds within the park. Both are about a mile back from the highway, so road noise is not a problem. When I visited, the park was populated by families with younger children from the local area. In both of my stays here (the last was in 2008) I’ve found the kids to be generally well-behaved and things are quiet by 10 PM. Since school was in session, the campground which was crowded on the weekend was nearly empty on Sunday night. Cell service is very poor and I was unable to receive any over the air TV channels. I used the park as a base for access to Jacksonville, which is a long 30 miles to the north. Note there are very few visitor attractions in the immediate area. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Motorhome.

Cabin was nice, park is beautiful, HOWEVER, there seems to be NO rule enforcement here at all. We were told at the gate we would have to board our dog, no pets in the cabins. We complied, only to arrive and find a very loud group with a pair of rottweilers in the adjacent cabin. A complaint to the ranger was useless. The ranger did come out to tell them dogs were not permitted in the cabins, but did not make them remove the animals, (imagine our frustration!!) Our entire weekend was spent protecting our kids from loose dogs, loud music and virtually NO park presence whatsoever. We never saw a ranger patrol the entire weekend. We will not return here We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Campground Cabin.
