This state park is in the middle of nowhere with the only attibute being that it has a lot of mountain bike trails. This is the only state park that we have stayed at that had no campground hosts on duty. The bathroom was not cleaned the entire week that we were there. The campground itself was really, overall pretty nice, with the exception of the ants, which are every where. I was eaten alive when I was unhooking for moving when we left. Saw a lot of deer, and heard a lot of wild hogs while here. The lake is overgrown with alage and weeds. The entire park needs a lot of cutting and trimming. Probably won't be back to this park. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

I would rate this a 10 but the walk to the dumpsters was a long long trek. We had site 24 and is was a pull thru site. Very nice and roomy.

Clean restrooms and showers. Site surface was asphalt and featured a fire ring and picnic table. Would return here again. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in campsite # 27. The site was level and hookups were easy to reach. Water pressure was low, but usable. We got over 40 OTA TV stations. Had enough room for our 35' on the pad, but not very wide. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are there on the first Wednesday of the month, at 9:00 am you will hear a siren that goes for 10 minutes! It is the monthly test of the warning signal at the reservoir nearby. Also the sheriffs dept. has a shooting range nearby and you may hear that too.

Alafia River State Park would rate a 10 if it had sewers. We love the park, and the pull-thru site we had this time was on the equestrian loop (no horse required), and had a great view of the nearby large pond. Only a few of our neighbors had horses on their sites, but it was great to see them anyway. The park is very quiet, and the hosts do a nice job of keeping things clean. The bathroom was recently remodeled, and where there used to be a single large shower stall, there are now three smaller ones, but still big enough to be comfortable. The electric and water were well located for our hookups, with good voltage and pressure. We've been here several times over the years, and will certainly return again. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

If you are looking for excellent mountain biking, horseback riding, or just dark skies & quiet, Alafia makes for a great camping experience. Lots of space between sites though little vegetation to provide shade or privacy. Strong sulfur spell in water so had to use bottled for coffee and drinking. No recycling or laundry on site but county recycle center 10 minutes away, laundromat 20 minutes. AT&T had 2 bars of LTE. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed two nights in spot #21. Excellent campground, reliable 50amp power (30amp also available on the same post). Water at each site. Dump station also available. Nice quiet location away from the hustle of civilization. Enjoy nature at its finest! We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful, clean, quiet park. Mountain bike trails were incredible.

We were in a "horse" site for the first two nights and really enjoyed out equine neighbors. We were then able to move over to a walk-in site for the remainder of our stay. Park rangers and volunteers were all extremely nice. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pretty park with two loops - one for people who bring their horses. We stayed on site 4 with a view of the lake for one night and then moved to 22 a nice pull through the next. The campground is all paved which made for easy biking but there are lots of mountain bike trails. Sites are level. Friendly staff. Clean restrooms but only one shower each. No laundry on property but there's one about 20 minutes away TV receptìon and Verizon 4G very good. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Propane is available at the Ace Hardware just up the street. Staff were very helpful and the friendliest ever. Check out Solomon's Castle, the home, galleries and workshop of internationally reknowned artist Howard Solomon. The $10 tour highlighted stained glass and metal sculptures. was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

We also enjoyed watching the hundreds of manatees at the Manatee Viewing Center (free tour) at the TECO's Big Bend Power Plant in Apollo Beach.

We have a large back-in site with no nearby neighbors. We really enjoy the quiet atmosphere, and the walking trails are great for exercise. The "horse loop" is sparsely occupied, but there are a couple of beautiful horses stabled in the nearby barn. The last time we were here, that were quite few more horses to admire. The check staff was friendly and helpful, and the work campers are regularly in attendance checking and cleaning sites as soon as guests leave. Our site is quite open, making satellite aiming very easy, and our Verizon cell service is quite good here. The OTA TV signals from Tampa are also very strong. The sites are water and electric only, but the dump station is very convenient with easy access. We will definitely be coming here again! We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Brandon and Plant City are both about a 30 minute drive from the park, with plenty of stores and restaurants to pick from. Locally, Tim's Cafe serves an excellent breakfast, and there are a couple of other restaurants a few miles in the opposite direction on Lithia-Pinecrest Road.

The Alafia State Park has great spacious sites some of which are pull-throughs, others are back-ins. We were in 23, a back-in with a fire-pit and extra large picnic table. There is water and electric at site. We noticed the black-water dump facility up by the round-about. Two nice driving loops contain the campsites. There are many mountain bike and horse riding trails. Some of the sites have two posts so you can tie your horse on a "run-line." We saw a stable of five or 6 stalls, but have not been to look at it close-up. It looked well maintained from our car. There is a small lake behind the first camping loop. We are told there could be alligators so keeping the pup close by is best. Otherwise not at all worried about the wildlife here. I love the way state parks are so well kept. They are so spacious and the sites have room between each one so you are not on top of the neighbor. The trees, forests and trails here are very enjoyable. A well-done park. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Wonderful wintertime park. I think the facilites are newer than the 1998 opening, but there is only one shower per sex, so be prepared to wait. No laundry. Old Florida can be seen here on the south prong of the Alafia River. TV and cell service is fine. Not full hook up, but has easy dump station. Pet owners have to be cautious because of alligators.Otherwise it is a very pleasant, quiet place to visit. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Alafia had lots of things to do. Hike, Bike, horse trails, playground, fish and killer mosquitoes! That was the only thing bad about this place really. Because it is a state park, they are not allowed to spray for bugs. Staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the two weeks we stayed there. (Reduced rate due to military disability). There was an issue with the taste of water. It would either taste like sulfur or chlorine depending on which site you were at. The camp host said it was due to the lack of people using the water and not mixing properly. It killed our filter. We moved around to most sites. 27 was the best back-in. HUGE lot behind. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park with large sites especially in the horse camping area. Clean and well maintained park. There is only 1 shower and rest room for all of the 30 sites, so sometimes there is a wait. The trees on the roadway and some sites need to be trimmed as they rubbed our roof. Verizon service is great here. No Wi-Fi, TV, or sewer and 1 dump station. Good mountain bike trails, hiking trails, and horseback riding trails. The water has a slight smell, so bring your own drinking water. It's about an 8 mile drive to the grocery store. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Motorhome.
