Very peaceful and relaxing stay. Very clean and well-maintained campground. Water and electric on sites, dump station available. WiFi at the bathhouse but signal didn't carry beyond that, not even to our site just across the road. There are NO trashcans in the campground, only dumpsters at each end of the campground. The walkway over the canal to the locks was not open. Lights are extremely bright but spaced out so if your site is near a light, it will be well lit...if not, it will be very dark. No signs on the road and GPS tried to take us down a cattle path so make sure you've viewed a map and know how to get into the campground. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Travel Trailer.

Our rate was America the Senior Pass. We like the sites 21-30 toward the back of the park as they have an awesome view of the river and the locks. Recommend surge protection on your electric as power has tripped on us & did seriously impact another RV. We saw bald eagles and an otter family. Not much for kids to do. Beautiful paved road, concrete pads with crushed stone sites & each site has covered picnic table, a grill & a fire pit. A wonderful spot to unwind, read, maybe fish. We love it here! It would be a 10 if the sites had sewer. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Travel Trailer.

Typical of the Corps of Engineer parks we've stayed at, this is a very nice campground with paved roads and pads, two restrooms and a dump station. It is situated on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River which flows from Lake Okeechobee. Together with the St. Lucie River/Canal which connects Lake Okeechobee with the Atlantic Ocean, this waterway stretches 154 miles across Florida from coast to coast. Sites in the western portion of this campground generally have more space between sites and has more pull throughs. All sites have 30 and 50 amp service and the water quality and pressure was good. Power did go off at least twice during a 7 day stay but came back on quickly. The restrooms are roomy but aren't being cleaned thoroughly. Most/all sites have a covered picnic table, fire pit, and BBQ within a gravel area and most sites have at least a little shade. Those camped on the north side of the east-west park road have a nicer view of the river, which has boat/yacht traffic and good fishing opportunities from the several access points within the park. La Belle is considerably closer and larger than Moore Haven. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is our first visit to a COE campground. I was amazed about the orderliness of the campground. All was neat, clean and campsites with paved ramps and graveled patios. Each site has a picnic table with a roof over the table. No sewer but otherwise good utility hookups. T-Mobile service was good, good satellite service. We camped for two days on two different sites. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Travel Trailer.

The long, long paved road entrance (guessing a mile or more) enhanced the likability of this park as it afforded a quiet bike riding and dog walking area. We only stayed two days and considered ourselves lucky to be able to get that as this CG is always full. We booked only three weeks in advance. Considered ourselves lucky to be able to stay in site #21 along the river side with constant views of the marine traffic. Nice quiet park with mostly seniors as they have no playground area for children. We will try to book a week next time. Highly recommend if you are in the mood to read a good book, chat with your fellow campers or take that bike ride. Enjoy. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground right on the water near the locks. Out of the way, this campground literally is a remote area. The neighbors are all non human. Surrounded by wildlife and cow fields for miles. There is a couple of small towns 10 or so miles in each direction.

That said, the campground is awesome and quiet. We loved it. A couple of bald eagles nesting in a tree across from our site, other wildlife all around. Campground was well maintained and very clean. Only down side for us is that the gate to cross the dam was locked as there had been recent construction and were not yet allowed to re-open it. So, we could not see the locks function. We will have to make a return trip, as this is a campground we could spend a few nights in just for peace and quiet.

We will be back. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Travel Trailer.

Interagency 50% discount rate for two nights. Site was a large, level, paved back-in site with on-site water and 50 amp service. A dump station is available in the park. We had good satellite reception and good Verizon cell and data reception. We would stay here again. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Motorhome.

This park is really nice, with long paved sites. There aren't as many trees as I would have liked to see for shade but you either will get the morning sun or afternoon sun depending on your site you select. We opted to be on Site 22 initially, which is on the water and changed as the afternoon sun was unbearable in the afternoon on patio side. We switched to Site 18 and we're glad we did as we could barbecue in the late afternoon for dinner and watch TV outside in the shade provided by motor home and awning. The campground itself is really clean, well maintained, and host was very nice and friendly. It was fun to watch the big yachts and fishing boats wait to go through the lock. This place does not have sewer hookups, but for us it was not a problem, but there is a dump station. There isn't a lot to do here, but if you just want to chill, this is a great place. We drove to Naples and Fort Myers for day trips. All in all, I would come back here to just relax and not do anything. Great park! We camped at Ortona South COE in a Motorhome.

Very clean, well kept COE park. The campground is located right at a lock & dam on the Okeechobee Waterway. Water/electric utilities worked great. This was a quiet, clean park right on the Caloosahatchee River. The camp hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. Well placed concrete pads so you weren't lookin right into the trailer next to you. It is a locked gate after dark. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here before and on "our" same site overlooking the COE locks.
Campground is immaculate in all respects, the only drawback is lack of sewers, typical of most Corps parks. Will definitely come again.
If one would look for the town of Ortona on a map I doubt they'd ever find this park. It should be listed under the town of "LaBelle", 8 miles to the west, or about 20 miles west of Clewiston. Don't think the town of Ortona exists. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Motorhome.

One of the nicest COE parks in the country. Pleasantly surprised to happen upon this park when all others were filled over the Thanksgiving weekend. Immaculate grounds and watching the boats go through the lock is interesting. Wide sites, paved parking for the RV, very nice covered picnic table and well maintained landscaping throughout. Only drawback is there are no sewers but there is a dump station. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Motorhome.
