A gem of a state park! Would be a 10 if it had sewer. Nice walking trails through different ecosystems. Large sites with fire rings and picnic tables. Most are graveled, a few dirt. Four concrete handicap sites. The interior road around the campsites is narrow. We had to choose a different site (9, an ADA site) because posts alongside the road prevented us from being able to swing clear of obstacles to back into 41. So stay away from site 41 if you have a 40 foot coach. Many sites would hold a big rig easily though, despite the narrow road.

There is wonderful thick greenery between sites, giving you that feeling of being out in nature. Some sites have partial views of the bayou. The day use area is beautiful as well. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Motorhome.

Great location for hiking, biking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing! Close to Destin beaches, shopping, and tourist attractions ! Most sites are large, with plenty of wooded space between camp sites! Some are soo large , more than one RV would fit inside them. Campground is well maintianed and clean! Hosts are friendly; providing help and answering questions as needed! Bonus for staying here is that you can also enter Henderson Beach State Park day use area and it's great beaches for free! Just show them you vehicle pass for Rocky Bayou SP! We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park. Large, level, dirt/sand sites with corral fencing around each and shrubbery and space for privacy. All sites are shaded, 50/30/20 amp. Eight face the bayou. There are no pull-throughs. Friendly staff, family friendly park with 3 good hiking/biking trails, paved roads for biking, large day use area with exercise station trail. Facilities are very clean, updated and air-conditioned. Short drive to Niceville for supplies, etc. A lot to see in the area. Will return for a longer stay. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Motorhome.

Hike the three trails. If you have a vehicle and are here a while visit the Navy and Air Force museums not to far away and day visit some of the beach parks in the area. Visit Henderson Beach State Park for the day using your park pass.

Check in was a breeze and the sites are all fairly level. All sites are gravel except the ADA sites which are concrete. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. Our site was on the water side and was a little tight backing in to. Most sites are pretty large, especially on the back side. There are a couple hiking trails, a swing set and a covered picnic pavilion in the camping area and a playground in the day use area. Good for biking! We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

One of our favorite locations in the Destin area. It is a smaller size park but sites are somewhat secluded. The staff here are awesome and extremely helpful. There are plenty of places to eat and shop within a few miles but the park is very quiet with an outstanding boat ramp and picnic area away from the main campground. We have stayed several times and never had a bad experience! We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Niceville, Fort Walton, and Destin are all nearby with lots of activities, shopping, and places to eat. This park is a sister park with Huntington Beach State Park in Destin so campers also have access to one of the nicest and less crowded beach areas in the area.

This is a nice campground which is for us close to relatives. We had a site on the back side which was spacious but very difficult to get into because of the narrow street. The site next to the water are much easier to back into. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

First and foremost we had cell service here versus just coming from St George's Island and having none. This park is very small with just about 40 sites. Bath houses as air conditioned. Laundry and a coke machine as well there. Only the one bath house for all the sites so be prepared to maybe wait for a shower or toilet. Lots of accesses to the Bayou but not from your camp site. You can rent canoes and kayaks from the ranger post at check in. Volunteers and hosts were awesome and did a wonderful job of keeping the sites and park tidy. Did I mention the bathhouses were air conditioned? Yeah! We were very close to family living in the area so we spent most of our time with them rather than in the waters. Never even put on our suits in fact. We will be back; no problems here! No real extra parking at your campsite for visitors. No guest after dusk; we got in trouble! Ooooops! We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You are in the city of Niceville tons of restaurants and local and chain stores. Publix, Winn Dixie, & Walmart were less than 3 miles of the park. We tried Sonny's BBQ. Not too shabby. I did love the salad bar they had! Was so great after and very hot day!

Campground was very nice, sites secluded from each other by brush and trees. Sites were wide and shady. Very quiet. It is on a bay and there are canoe and kayak rentals available. Usually a breeze and we didn't feel any mosquitoes. Bath house was clean and modern and had laundry area. No Wi-Fi and limited free TV stations. Grocery stores nearby. Free access to Henderson Beach state park in Destin, but it costs $3 to cross the toll bridge to get the the gulf park. We have stayed at Henderson Beach SP on the beach and like this park just as much. Will stay again in future. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A very pretty place. We walked on two trails while there. It is a very small state park but then again it is in Niceville, FL. I like that it is very close to the bay so you have that view. We only saw one other person while we were there, so its probably not so busy during the off season. I recommend this place. It is safe and clean. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Tent.

This campground is also reviewed under the official name of Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park, but is the same place. The entrance is a bit hard to spot, and the road is a bit narrow. Lots of trees and shade, and undergrowth between sites, as Florida is determined to return their parks to a more natural environment. We picked a site that was wider than most, as we have a 35 ft trailer, towed by a 4 door F350 with a full sized bed - we tend to want a lot of space with no tight trees at the entrance. Clean shower buildings, quiet even though it was pretty full for the weekend. No planes overhead, but that might be a problem during the week. Lots of families & tents. No wi-fi, cable, or sewer (some Florida state parks do have sewer), focus is on outdoor activities on the water mostly. You get free access to their sister park out on the Gulf-front beaches, but either have to go around to them then long way, or pay $3 each way on the new mid bay bridge to get there (it is cheaper to get & use SunPass if you go to FL a lot). Thought it was a convenient location for running around, and less expensive than the gulf-front park. We stayed 2 nights, and would go back for a couple days longer in the spring or fall. We prefer to be able to have sewer, but were planning on stopping at a commercial campground after leaving, so didn't have to deal with the dump station. Our site was gravel, and one of the larger sites. Drove around and looked over the whole place - not that many sites that we thought were long enough for larger equipment, and many had trees that made backing in and pulling out a bit tricky. They all have a wider area toward the back where the picnic table goes, kinda "L" shaped, which we liked. We noted about 7-10 sites that we could pick from when making future reservations. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is located near Niceville. The lots are nicely spaced, and each one is surrounded by a wooden fence to define the space. Some sites were on compacted dirt, others were done in fine gravel, and the handicapped sites were concrete. The staff and volunteers were very nice and pleasant to deal with. The rate shown includes the $16 nightly fee for water and electric, plus 6% sales tax. The campground is near Eglin Air Force Base, and on days they have maneuvers, the noise is RV-shaking. We also heard what sounded like cannons going off, but they might have been sonic booms. There are a couple of trails in the relatively small park. Our Verizon card and phone worked well at the campground. The bathrooms were clean and modern. TV reception over the air was marginal. During our stay in early February, many sites were vacant. The park graciously allowed us to have a package forwarded to us care of the park. We'd stay again when in this area. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Motorhome.

The park is typical for a state run park. The trees were too low and close to the road for today's taller coaches/5th wheels. We got several scrapes from limbs. We could not get our coach into site #29 without scraping on a tree, and the same thing getting out. We used our waste wagon because we were staying for 2 weeks. There is no easy way to pull your wagon to the dump. There is no paved walkway to get you all the way to the dump. We have an 18 gallon wagon and it took both of us to handle it and get it pushed up the ramp (they did think of that) to dump it. We would have preferred a graveled site, but #29 was one of a couple that was dirty sand. The view of the water was nice from #29. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Motorhome.

A hidden jewel of a park with a great trails, a boat ramp, several playgrounds for children, pavilions, and excellent activities offered by the rangers. I could go on and on. Why a rating of 9? The gravel road, which is well maintained, is the only reason. The camping sites are large, shaded, and well marked. The bath houses are great, with tons of water pressure. Narrow, paved loop road; gravel sites, fairly level. Sites are large, private, and shady, most not satellite friendly. Electric and H2O hookups are fine. No sewer, but convenient dump station. Restrooms and showers are SPOTLESS, plenty of hot water. 2 washers and dryers - also spotless, but we did not use them. Verizon has consistent 3G and intermittent 4G. Very dog friendly with 3 well maintained nature trails; longest is 1 mile. Staff and hosts are knowledgeable and helpful. Walmart and grocery stores are within 3 miles. Magic Castle Laundry, excellent wash/dry/fold service @1.25/lb. Only negative: fair amount of noise due to proximity of Eglin Air Force Base; planes flying over and explosions, mostly weekday mornings. Occasional rig shaking noise, rare nighttime noise. We would stay here again. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall this is a pretty decent park. It backs up to Rocky Bayou (go figure!) with easy access. Lots of tent campers and families. Some sites are paved, some are not. Our concrete back-in was pretty level. The interior roads are a bit narrow but we easily navigated them in our 40 foot rig. Keep a close eye out for the entry sign to the campground - we passed it the first time partly due to the fact that our GPS was taking us further down the road. Nights are quiet except on weekends when the revelry kicks up a notch. Just people having fun, nothing terribly intrusive. During the day it was not unusual to hear low-flying planes and booms from the ordnance disposal site just down the street. Very friendly and helpful staff. BTW (By the way) - if you are using this campground as a base to explore the Destin area, the mid-bay bridge charges a $3.00 toll each way. They want to pay that off in a hurry! We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Motorhome.
