Super State Park. Love the "growies" between sites. You don't even know you have neighbors. Some tight turns for large rigs. Interior roads were tight and a narrow bridge crossing a creek. Of the 5 shower houses #2 & 4 were closed for repairs/ updates. Once again the Ranger assigned us a site upon check in and we were very happy with his choice. We tend to go without reservations, never knowing how long we'll be where. Would definitely come back to this park. Decent location, super nice Rangers and terrific sites! We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Motorhome.

Florida Seniors get a discount. Certain sites will require a long hose to reach a water faucet. Camp sites are very private and shaded for the most part. Restrooms were clean. Enjoying our stay. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Motorhome.

This park was great for a quick weekend away from our home in Tampa. Miles and miles of great, flat, paved bike paths. And numerous hiking trails throughout the park. Staff at the check in desk is super friendly and helpful. We were fortunate to get a pull-thru site but it was still a little tight. We will definitely return. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Visit the beaches of Venice which are within 20-30 minutes of the park. Well worth the drive. Park also has a fresh water swim area and some sites are along the river which provides a great view.

Each site is surrounded with nice trees and hanging moss. Very quiet. The roads were rather narrow, but still manageable. Not a place for Big rigs. Very narrow bridge coming into the campground. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park is very nice, lots of hiking. Close to beach. They have a lake you can swim in. Some sites small, some really far from water hookup. No full hookups, some 50 amp sites. Sites 68-98 are no pets due to the river. Our site was covered in poison ivy. Bath houses are being upgraded this year. The tight one lane bridge into the campground will be upgraded next year. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Our site was on the river; we selected the site thinking we could launch our kayak from the site. We discovered that this was against regulation because of damage to the banks. Also the site was an odd shape with a palm tree in middle of the site. This caused us quite a problem to park and level the trailer. I would advise to not select this site. It was perfect however for tent campers in that the tent could be pitched in a back corner for plenty of privacy.
The campground has a number of excellent trails for hiking. Kayaking on the river is excellent. The launch area is the best I have ever seen. The kayak fits between two floating piers for easy boarding. Just across Tamiami Trail is the Legacy rails to trails bike path for riding into town. You can run north or south on the trail. Get a map at the ranger station.
AT&T worked well, dish reception was not possible because of the trees. We stayed for three days; this was our second visit to the campground. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was our third time staying at this park while visiting family. Our site on the river required a little leveling. There is enough ground cover and space between sites for privacy and the feeling of being in the Florida woodlands. Lots of trails to hike in the park along with fishing, canoeing, kyaking and bike riding. No problems with water or electric. The restroom near our site has been updated a little since our last visit with some new tile, counter top, sinks and one shower made for ADA use. Restroom was kept clean and supplied even during a busy holiday weekend. The showers could use a little taller door or shower curtain for more privacy. Park staff very friendly and helpful and check-in was quick and easy. Will camp here again. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

An unexpected find of a great state park. Very nice stay. As with all of Florida's State Parks the staff are friendly and helpful. The campground is set well back into the park so it is very quiet and away from US-41 Tamiami Trail. Sites are mostly packed sand but ours was a drive-through with asphalt that required some extra leveling effort. Many of the sites along Spring Creek do not allow pets but the others do. Pets on a leash are allowed on most of the many hiking trails. Though small, the sites are well buffered with vegetation for privacy and plenty of trees for shade. All have water and electric with fire ring, picnic table and small clothes/towel hanger. We had to use extra water hose as our site shared water with the adjoining site. The many restrooms put them in close proximity to the sites. They are well maintained. Dump site was easy access toward the back of the campground. We will camp here again. While pets are permitted in the family campgrounds for the most part they are not permitted in some of the campsites along the Spring Creek. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is s beautiful state park with gorgeous views. We camped here in a 31' motorhome and has no issues at all getting in and around the campground. We saw much larger rigs in the campground as well. Many sites were quite large both length and width wise. The vegetation between sites provided a sense of privacy. The bathhouses were clean and well maintained. Verizon worked well. We would definitely recommend this campground. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 3 weekdays right after Memorial Day. Compared to other nearby state/county parks (Myakka, Fort Desoto), this was smaller but still had plenty to do. Onsite kayak rentals are available, plenty of great hiking/biking trails and a lake for swimming. I don't know who'd be crazy enough to swim in a lake in Florida (gators) but more power to them. The sites are small and private. The foliage is very thick and the trees offered plenty of shade. Shade is a big deal when you're camping in Florida in June. Rigs over 36ft in length are not allowed for good reason. The campground is small and curvy and larger RVs would not be able to navigate. I didn't have any issue in my 34 foot but I was pushing the limit. The location is also great. Shopping is right down the road. There's a super center Walmart 2 miles down the road, a Publix grocery store, and plenty of restaurants. Cell coverage was great. I streamed with my Verizon jetpack with no glitches. Didn't even need to hook up the booster. ATT service was also solid. I really enjoyed this park. It was very quiet and the wildlife was abundant. The only negatives are trash and water. Water is shared between 2 sites. I had to go down the road to Walmart to purchase a 50 ft potable water hose to stretch to the connection. Trash was also a bit of a pain. There are no receptacles near the spots, and nowhere to dump except for the bins by the front entrance. These were minor annoyances and the rest of the park more than made up for it. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice state park in an area you wouldn't expect to find one. The campground is set well back into the park so it is very quiet. Sites are packed sand and ours required a little leveling. All sites are W/E only and have a fire ring, picnic table and small clothes/towel hanger. Good spacing between sites with ground vegetation for privacy and plenty of trees for shade. Playground, hiking and biking trails available. Restrooms are old and could use updating but are kept very clean. Check in was easy and staff friendly. We will camp here again. We spent 8 nights at this State Park during our first retirement winter in Florida and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The campground sits nearly a mile back from US-41 Tamiami Trail, so it is convenient to shopping and restaurants, but a world away from the hustle and bustle of SW Florida in the winter. The state park is close to the Siesta Key public beach, which is nothing shy of incredible with FREE parking. There are many scheduled activities at the park including nature walks, movie nights, and exercise classes. There is free Wi-Fi at the Nature Center (speeds depend on usage at the time). The campsites are nice size, with plenty of vegetation between lots to provide privacy. The electric and water hookups worked well. Hubby did experience difficulty with DISH reception, but we were able to pick up quite a few network channels with our antenna. The only real downside is all 4 bath houses are ancient and are in serious need of remodeling. They were kept clean and scattered throughout the campground. There was one washer and one dryer at two of the bathhouses. There were multiple hiking trails starting at the Nature Center, and we were able to spot a pair of rare Scrub Jay birds and an Eagle's nest with two chicks on our walks. We loved this location, and we will definitely return in the future. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Motorhome.

We ate twice at Mad Moe's Sports Bar about a mile or two north of the park. Great menu/food, great service, and great prices. If you are in Sarasota on Sunday evening, make sure you swing by Siesta Key Public Beach about an hour before sunset and take in the weekly drum circle. An amazing experience!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a ranger (with a reddish beard) who could hardly give us the time of day. I think we didn't fit into his schedule. The sites have some trees and shrubbery, with a little privacy. Our site was on the stream's edge, which was quite muddy. The sites were not level, and the water hook up and the electric hook up were on opposite sides of the site, so we were unable to use the water. The lake is small and there is a sign announcing the presence of alligators. The trails are flat and dull. We would not return. We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Travel Trailer.
