Location is the best feature of this park. Snuggled between the Gulf of Mexico and the Grand Lagoon on the extreme astern end of Panama City Beach provides a neat sand and sea venue. The downside is all sites are just water and electric hook-ups. Most sites are shaded, or at least partially so. Many of the waterfront sites have a great view north over the Grand Lagoon. In some areas there is enough foliage to provide some privacy between sites. Still, the size and nature of the sites varies tremendously so knowing the layout from previous visits is really helpful. There are very nice heated and air conditioned shower houses (4 in total) and 3 different dump stations scattered around the camping area. A particular problem comes up with understanding the arrangement of the odd numbered sites from 17 through 59. On the campground map and, therefore, on the Reserve America campground map these sites appear placed around the inside of a loop. In fact, the "loop" is a straight section of road and sites such as 29 to 25 and sites 53 to 59 are actually side by side and co-mingled, not at all across from each other as shown on the maps. I booked site 55 for us and site 57 for my daughter's family, believing they were indeed side by side. They were not. Site 25 was immediately next to site 57 and site 55 was a small, cramped site one site further away on the opposite side of 25. The state park has beautiful beach area, all along the south edge and all along the east edge. It's fine very white sand and turquoise waters. The beaches are easily reached by bike (all on interior park roads) or by driving over the large parking areas near the boardwalks over the dunes to the beaches. The beaches are the best part of this park. Be aware, however, that the beaches are steeply sloped from the dunes to the water. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

Neat little park right on the bay, with the ocean within biking distance. The beaches were absolutely beautiful. Very clean, organized and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay there. If you can, try to get a site on the bayside of the road! We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This park has some great sites and the beach is killer, with some of the biggest (non hurricane) waves I've seen in Florida. The park is definitely worth a visit, but the campground itself is optional. Most of the appealing sites seemed to be along the bay and one could definitely do worse, but our site was sort of jammed in. It actually wasn't bad, especially since we're in a B-class, but there wasn't much privacy and when combined with the fact that foot and vehicle traffic were virtually nonstop, it left a bad taste. I hate feeling like I'm constantly on display, with endless gawkers roaming about. (Although I fully understand the desire to check out everyone's setup and do quite a bit of gawking myself.) Campgrounds of this size and popularity always present a problem for me. When 50 campers must all use the same access roads, you unavoidably get nonstop vehicle traffic. The beach being about a mile from the campground only added to the traffic. Every time I went to walk our dog, head to the beach, or just go to the bathhouse, I had to wait on traffic. The weather was cold during our visit, so we weren't outside at the campsite much, but if we had been, the privacy issue would have been even more pronounced. Our fire pit was just a few feet from our neighbor's camper. I would be scared if people had a campfire so close to ours. Like a lot of campgrounds, this one would be much better if the number of sites were reduced and every site was made into a good one. One shouldn't have to gamble or research endlessly just to get a good site, but nobody wants regulation or oversight so that's probably not going to happen anytime soon. In short, we're glad we visited, but probably won't return. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You know what they say about first impressions. Like any city, Panama City has countless things to do, but much of the beach area seems old and/or rundown. We stopped at a fast food joint that looked like something you'd see in a third world country, but this seems to be more and more common no matter where you go in the U.S. We saw little reason to venture outside the park, or return, but that's just our first, but probably last, impression.

Just a quick note to start out. According to the host this park will be closed for major renovation this Summer. Very nice park, 170 campsites with lots that have bayside views. Our site was near the boat ramp area and very secluded for a being in a large campground. We spent most of our time at the beach and did take use any of the facilities in the park. We did a walk thru the campground and were impressed the sites and locations. According to the host the upcoming renovation will include 50 Amp service, water and sewage at every site. Also, they are going to convert many site to pull thru. It will interesting to see if they can maintain the current feel of the campground. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

(If you're reading this after Labor Day 2018, please be aware that there's a major campground renovation planned for fall of 2018.) We've stayed here on 4 trips and have never been disappointed. Our site was large and level. There was great OTA TV reception, but because of the trees and vegetation, we had to place our satellite dish on top of the RV. Cell reception (AT&T) was good. The beach was excellent, as always - not crowded and very clean. It is about a mile from the campground to the beach. The park location is good, with easy access to Winn Dixie, Publix and Walmart. There are good restaurants close by. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Some restaurants close for the off-season - If you're at the park in January or February, you may want to call to confirm your choice is open. The camp store is closed after Thanksgiving, but (depending on weather) the Jetty Store is open Wed - Sun.

I have mixed feelings about this place. The beach is fabulous, of course. And the wildlife is great, whitetail deer everywhere and many different kinds of birds. There are things to do, hike the short trails or watch the boats come in at the ramp with their catches. There are minor annoyances at every campground but this one had a lot while we were there: loud music, barking dogs left outside for hours, someone dumping gray water at their site, food scraps scattered around (pizza and chicken bones), rude camp host, odor from the paper mill. The campground is accessible from the day use area so we had squatters staying overnight in their beat-up truck two sites down. After awhile, I felt like "what next?" I know people love this place but it just didn't work for us. I feel like there are cleaner and safer campgrounds to enjoy the Gulf. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We were on the bay and the view was pretty. If you want to avoid the wind (it was cold!) sites 151 to 159 are protected plus the deer hang out in that area a lot. If you do want the bay, site 101 is parallel to the shore and looked like it was nice.

It's very difficult to get a reservation to this park and I live here. The beach is the big draw here, but the campground is about 1/2 to 1 mile from it. The campground is on a lagoon and we were backed up to it with great views. We saw dolphins, heron and several deer. There are 4 bathhouses and they are all in excellent shape and clean. The interior roads are in rough shape. There are 2 dump stations and we still had to wait for about 30 minutes. After Labor Day 2018, they are closing 100 sites for improvements and only 75 will be available for walk up only. More info can be found on the website. Overall it was a nice experience. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice stay. We were in #171. Nice and long campsite but very narrow, with brush on each side. Nightly a herd of deer would wander within 5 feet of us heading back into the forest. Beautiful park in itself with water surrounding you. Will definitely be going back next year!! We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was an incredible beach side park, with great views of the sunrise at certain sites. The boat tour to Shell Island left early without us, and if we didn't call the CG store, we wouldn't have known that they had over-booked and would be swinging back for more passengers. Maybe a sign on the dock explaining this would help? Otherwise, great site--level, very clean, great experience! We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

I'm not sure why so many people seem to like this campground. As others have noted, sites vary widely. Some are very tiny, others have a bit more room. Most are right on top of each other with no privacy between, though some do have vegetation between sites. Some have shade, some are in the open. We had people on both sides, directly across the narrow road, and also behind us. Needs updating for sure! Roads in poor condition, sites have old split rail fences to divide. Power and water hookup is on your neighbor's side of fence, which is dumb! We were in site 47, and it was very tight width wise for our 32 foot long class A. Between the tall pine trees and the fence, there was barely room to put out one slide, it was about 1/2" away from fence. Also couldn't put our awning out all the way due to a big tree in the way. Sites are dirt/sand (a few are paved) . A few are pull thru, nearly all are back in. Could use better signage, as I didn't even see the sign for the beach. It's about 1 mile or so from the campground, so you may want to drive. Beach was nice though. No signs for laundry, I had to drive to 3 restrooms to find a working one. Dryer was broken at the first one I stopped at. Then one of the washers ate my $! Hard to find hiking trails, as they aren't on the campground map, nor does it show where laundry is. You have to drive thru it all to get anywhere from the cg, as it's on a peninsula. I would never, ever come here again. Thankfully we only had to spend 3 nights. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

Perfect location. Beautiful serene beaches. Gorgeous sunsets. This is a big park. The sites are widely varied. If you are unable to make a preview visit, be sure and look at the site pictures on the the reservations page. Some say they are large, but there are lots of trees making entrance tight. Just because you have a lagoon-side site, many have a marsh between the site and the lagoon. I found the roads very tight for my 35' MH. Be sure and unhook your toad in the visitor center parking lot before you go into the campground. No sewer connections, but the water and elec were good. The bathhouses looked like they are new or recently remodeled. The beach is long, clean and without commercializations. All that said, this is THE place to stay if you go to PCB. Many of the campsites at this park are on the lagoon with beautiful water views. We had site 2 and I think it's the best site in the park. It was very spacious with lots of privacy. One morning I was able to catch an amazing sunrise from our site. It's a short bike ride over to the beach where we saw beautiful sunsets.

There is a shuttle boat to Shell Island, but it's not running at this time of the year. Bathrooms are clean and there are a couple of nice playgrounds for kids, as well as a nice fishing pier. Verizon coverage was very good. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
