Very clean park, the only problem is they don't have a beach set aside as a dog beach. There is a dog area as you enter the park but that is over 5 miles away. Clean restrooms. Clean showers. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Motorhome.

As others have said the locale is unbeatable, especially in the Fall and early Spring, when the temps are nice. Primitive beaches on both the Gulf and Bay sides of the island. Ospreys in the tree tops. Great Blue Herons and Brown Pelicans fishing on the bay side. It's easy to be kicked off by weather is the one down side. We've been evacuated twice - once in Fall and once in Spring. Still one of my favorite places. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

It was so nice to walk across the street every day to enjoy the beautiful white sandy beach and gorgeous sunsets. The bike ride to visit the fort was really nice, and visiting the fort was educational for my kids. We love to earn junior ranger badges at every national park, monument and seashore that we visit. It was really neat to stay right at a historic site and be able to ride our bikes there to do the activities for the junior rangers.

We have a 41 foot 5th wheel and our rig fit in site A4, but there was barely enough room for the truck. We made it work though by parking the truck under the hitch. Otherwise you have to park in overflow parking. The site was really nice though with a semi-private yard.

Verizon and AT&T worked well here. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The setting for this campground is fantastic. You are a 5-10 minute walk to the beach and there are miles of white sand everywhere. The restrooms are clean and nice. The sites are nice but many of them are close together and none of them have much, if any privacy. We were in a 33 ft camper and had to be very careful about the site we choose. If you have a senior pass, this is by far the most economical and pretty campsite you will get by the ocean. There is one drawback. They will evacuate the campground if it is windy or rainy enough to cause the ocean to come over the road. This happened while we here, and it had happened a few weeks before we got here. There were no other options open in the area so we only had about 40% of our time we could be here. Be prepared for a back up option if you go, because this happens somewhat routinely. Lot spacing was nearby with some shade. Site surface was sand and featured a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The very best key lime pie can be had at Flounders Chowder House. The price is $8 for what ends up being the equivalent of 3 pieces. We went back and carried out three different time. It was heavenly. Put a piece in the freezer and it is even better.

Overall Rating:

This campground, part of the Fort Pickens area in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, is large with 5 loops. Our site in Loop A was paved and level, and partially shaded. The barrier island that is the national seashore in this area is very narrow and low, so it's common to see water in the road and parking lots from rain, plus white sand blowing across the road. We stopped here to visit the National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola NAS. There is no wi-fi but our Verizon card worked well and there were plenty of over-the-air TV stations. Sites had electric and water. The campground is reached by crossing two bridges from the mainland through Gulf Breeze and then to Pensacola Beach. This is the second time we've come here and would likely return in the future. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Naval Aviation Museum on Pensacola NAS is simply outstanding, and is a must-see. The 150+ aircraft on display are all in museum-quality condition. Allow a full day to visit this museum; admission is free.

The National Cemetery on Pensacola NAS is also worth a visit to reflect on the many service people who have served our country.

Fort Pickens has an interesting history over the centuries and is definitely worth a visit.

Others have talked about the facilities, which are fine. What I will always love about this campsite is access to pristine beaches on both the Gulf side and the Santa Rosa Sound side. 10 minute walk to gulf and 5 minute walk to sound from our site. Wonderful birds - more ospreys and great blue herons than anywhere else I've ever been. Lots of shore birds, brown pelicans, and others in heron family. You can stay 14 days and then must be out for 2, I think. We stayed here 3 2 week times in fall of 2o15, alternating with Big Lagoon State Park. Amazing deal for seniors with the pass. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here before and would stay again. Beautiful park on pristine barrier island run by US Park Service. Spacious sites with access to some of the most beautiful, sugar sand beaches on Florida's emerald coast. Electric and water with easy to access dump station. This park and it's location are spectacular. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Great access to Panama City Beach but without the hassle of crowds where you stay. Easy shopping and dining just across the bay.

Access to historic Ft. Pickins and the ability to see the Blue Angels practice at times.

New restrooms and showers were due to open the week after we visited. Great biking/walking trails. Some campsites have issues with overhanging branches, and backing into the site was pretty tight. Beach is a short walk from group A campsite group, and it's wonderful. Plenty to do around Pensacola (Naval Air Museum, Blue Angels practice, Joe Patti Seafood, McGuires Pub). We'll be back next year. We were in the A loop were many sites are not level. Our rear tires needed six blocks under them and we needed to stay forward in the site to avoid the worst part of the slope. The site, 37, was right where the dump station exits. Also, in order to dump we needed to loop back around, that turn is very tight. But we had good beach access, Verizon cell and broadband both excellent and good TV via batwing. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Motorhome.

Absolutely beautiful area with lots to do in park. Beaches are lovely and some are quite secluded. Lots of birds and wildlife. Blue Angels practice over Fort. Wonderful! This is not a resort so don't expect perfect. Its old with narrow roads, older bathhouses and sand every where. The staff was friendly and the facilities were pretty clean considering usage. Its a great value. We had to park our truck in overflow due to shorter site. Thats okay. We'll be back! We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Bring a tote for grey water and avoid shower house if possible. They're pretty clean but crowded. Look for the beach parking by Fort batteries. Beaches there are almost empty.

We stayed in the A loop, but did not tour the other loops. You must park all vehicles on the pavement, so pay attention if you are making a reservation as longer units might not fit. The paved sites are single wide. There was overflow parking at restrooms, but it was full all the time. At our site, #10, the power tower has the 50 amp plug installed upside down, so we could not use our voltage regulator. Brand new restrooms are being worked on, but were not available during our visit. The bathroom sidewalk was blocked & you had to walk in the sand to get to the very dated bathrooms. The long road in can flood (salt water) during severe storms and access to the park will be denied. If a strong storm comes, you make be asked to evacuate immediately. You can walk across the road to the beach and gulf. The white sand and dunes are very beautiful. There is some space between sites, but no vegetation. A few sites have some shade, including site #10. We only stayed one night and did not get to the fort, but were told it is interesting with a nice museum. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Ft Pickens beaches are absolutely gorgeous, but campground & park is badly neglected. Also, an older white male park ranger who worked gate was wildly inappropriate in comments about "disabled campers from Louisiana" whom he deemed "cheaters", complained about Access Pass holders "ruining it for everyone" Really unprofessional. All other rangers & park police fine. They need to ban canpers out of control lighting, it was like camping on Vegas strip. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We loved this park! Neat and clean, plus friendly neighbors. The site was large and easy to back into. The roads in the loop are paved and can get a bit tight, and a couple of branches had started to hang a little low, but we cleared them. A lot of the shaded sites, we could never have gotten into, due to low branches. We forgot to check the restrooms, and never used them. Easy drive to Fort Pickens and enjoyed a day there, a lot of history! The beaches are amazing!! The water was awesome blue! We were in loop A, which has fewer sites than the other loops. Most sights were taken throughout the week. There seemed to be more available sites in the other loops. The camp store was nearly out of ice on Monday afternoon, there were only 2-3 bags of ice left, but was restocked later in the week. Rangers were very helpful at check-in. Can't say enough nice things about this park! We can hardly wait to go back! We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Motorhome.

Staff, including Hosts, were friendly. Sites were kept clean, but the Loop C rest room/shower is old (dare I say dilapidated), but kept reasonably clean. The Loop D restroom/shower is new, but the shower was closed during our stay. Site access is good, with paving for the RVs, but no pavement for patio (the reverse of what you might expect). Shade is sparse, but typical of the barrier island location. A long, decked walkway goes from the access road through the dunes to the Gulf beach. For actually spending time on the beach, a swimming area with a pavilion having toilets & showers is located a short drive back towards the entrance gate. In summer, a lifeguard station is also there. We toured the fort, and on the mainland, the Naval Aviation Museum is not to be missed! We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
