This is our favorite campground. Loop A is the best of all the loops to stay in as it is the newest Loop. The Restrooms have been updated and were spotless when we used them. The Campground registration office employees were very nice and helpful. The beach is walking distance from the campsites and not crowded at all. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park. Some spots are shady, others full sun. We were full sun. The restrooms were very well lit, but not air conditioned. It gets hot in there, but since there is no sewer hookup, we used the public restrooms. The fort area is nice and the beach is beautiful. You are not supposed to park on the grass and there was not quite room for our truck to fit fully on the pavement. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring a grill. The fire ring doubles as the grill, so it is pretty low to the ground and not a huge cooking surface.

Stayed 4 nights in a shady back-in site which we reserved 2 months ahead. The site was long enough for our trailer but we had to carefully park the truck horizontally. Showers were very nice. Great beach access and good bike riding. Very interesting history. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We enjoyed our stay during spring break! The park was absolutely beautiful, a hidden gem! The hot water was hit or miss in the shower. Restrooms were cleaned daily. Park staff was incredibly friendlyand the spots were spacious. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This did not look like our kind of place, it looked crowded and it was. But it was fun people watching, the beach is close by, and the Blue Angels practiced right overhead. Our site was very level but a bit difficult to get into because it was very crowded right at that point. Crowded because the people across from us sprawled their stuff out onto the road. If your rig is ginormous, that doesn't entitle you to exceed your campsite space! The only drawback was that the campground store and laundry were closed. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in site D13. A super shady spot! It did however back up to a cyclone fence enclosed power unit. We were able to position our trailer so that the cyclone fence was not noticeable. Easy walk to bathhouse. They were just about to open up a new bathhouse so that will improve them. The sites are close together with no vegetation between them except for some live oak trees. I looked up on TripAdvisor to find which spots were shadiest and reserved based on that. Glad I did. Some are 100% sun. There isn't room for your tow vehicle at most sites. The beach is the main draw for us. Beautiful water and beaches with very few people. Will be back for the beach. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is the closest campground to our house in Pensacola, so we visit perhaps once or twice a year. First thing for visitors to understand is that this campground is operated by Gulf Islands National Seashore, and it is located west of Pensacola Beach. It is NOT in Pensacola. There is a $1.00 toll to go to the beach (SunPass accepted), and a $15 per vehicle entrance fee to enter the Fort Pickens part of the National Seashore (good for seven days). Interagency passes will get you through for free if you have one. Of course, campground fees are 50% discount with these cards. The CG is on the bay side, so the beaches are Gulf side, a relatively short boardwalk away. Hurricanes from years gone by decimated the trees and native vegetation that once visually separated campsites. For the most part, there is little privacy, but there is space between sites.. The asphalt pads often have a good 6 inch drop to the shell/sand area where your awning will stretch, a good ankle twister and tripping point. Bath houses are brand new as of 2016. A-Loop is isolated. B-E Loops are intertwined. OTA DTV has 27 strong channels, all networks available. Beach is second to none, white, sugar texture sand. Bicycle and hiking trails take you to the fort, or you can drive. There are water moccasins in the marshes, so stay alert. Dumbest thing about this campground is the 12 Noon check-out and 1 PM check-in times. You cannot have lunch on your last day because you are busy packing up. Campers should be prepared for cold, hot, wind, thunderstorms, lightning, salt spray, dead still conditions, mosquitoes, etc. Nearest major grocery store is in Gulf Breeze about ten miles away, so come prepared. The campground is not that special, but the location is simply heaven for the person who loves to beach, surf fish, bicycle, and explore military forts. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Beachgoers should fully understand rip currents. Serious sunburn possible in white sand. Most people who drown are from inland states. If you cannot swim, just wade. Many good restaurants, bars, recreation areas at nearby Pensacola Beach. Sales taxes are higher on the Beach than in Gulf Breeze or Pensacola. Downtown Pensacola (Palafox Place) is tops with regards to fine dining, sidewalk cafes, nightlife, festivals, year round sports.

Nice campground with great access to beaches, nature trails, and of course Fort Pickens. Biking and hiking opportunities are abundant. The beaches are fantastic. There are numerous birds to see; such as, pelicans, egrets, herons, gulls, etc.

Be careful when selecting your site, because some sites are tight to get into from the access roads within the campground. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Located at the entrance to Pensacola's harbor, you will see many boats of all shapes and sizes. Across from the fort, you have a great view of the Pensacola Lighthouse.

If you are into military aircraft, this is the place to be. Across the harbor is Pensacola Naval Air Station, which provides an excellent vantage point to watch the Blue Angels (this is their home base) on the days they're flying. Also, you will see Navy trainers and other military aircraft flying.

Had a great stay here. Nice park and easy access to the gulf beach. Site had some trees, but they were too small to provide shade. Make sure you make reservations, as it fills up quick and the standby line does not give many people the ending they wanted. We would definitely stay here again. We got to watch the Blue Angels practice right from our beach chairs on the Gulf Beach. It was one of the coolest experiences we have had. Pegleg Pete's on the road in was a great place to eat. Their crab claws were excellent.

Stayed here before and would stay again. Beautiful park on pristine barrier island run by US Park Service. Spacious sites with access to some of the most beautiful, sugar sand beaches on Florida's emerald coast. Electric and water with easy to access dump station. This park and it's location are spectacular. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Great access to Panama City Beach but without the hassle of crowds where you stay. Easy shopping and dining just across the bay.

Access to historic Ft. Pickins and the ability to see the Blue Angels practice at times.

New restrooms and showers were due to open the week after we visited. Great biking/walking trails. Some campsites have issues with overhanging branches, and backing into the site was pretty tight. Beach is a short walk from group A campsite group, and it's wonderful. Plenty to do around Pensacola (Naval Air Museum, Blue Angels practice, Joe Patti Seafood, McGuires Pub). We'll be back next year. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in the A loop, but did not tour the other loops. You must park all vehicles on the pavement, so pay attention if you are making a reservation as longer units might not fit. The paved sites are single wide. There was overflow parking at restrooms, but it was full all the time. At our site, #10, the power tower has the 50 amp plug installed upside down, so we could not use our voltage regulator. Brand new restrooms are being worked on, but were not available during our visit. The bathroom sidewalk was blocked & you had to walk in the sand to get to the very dated bathrooms. The long road in can flood (salt water) during severe storms and access to the park will be denied. If a strong storm comes, you make be asked to evacuate immediately. You can walk across the road to the beach and gulf. The white sand and dunes are very beautiful. There is some space between sites, but no vegetation. A few sites have some shade, including site #10. We only stayed one night and did not get to the fort, but were told it is interesting with a nice museum. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Ft Pickens beaches are absolutely gorgeous, but campground & park is badly neglected. Also, an older white male park ranger who worked gate was wildly inappropriate in comments about "disabled campers from Louisiana" whom he deemed "cheaters", complained about Access Pass holders "ruining it for everyone" Really unprofessional. All other rangers & park police fine. They need to ban canpers out of control lighting, it was like camping on Vegas strip. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Reserved five nights at Ft Pickens after going online and seeing the picture of the site and, trust me, the picture online is nothing like what we had. There showed shade trees in the picture, and we were sitting in the blazing sun. The pads to park on were so short we had to detach our camper and turn it sideways and then park next to it sideways, as they give you an information sheet to make sure you park on the pavement. When I registered online, I told them the length of our camper and considering you have to pull it with your vehicle, the website should have come back and said the site was not suitable for what I had, but this did not happen. The park has a general store with a small laundromat attached, and when we tried to get quarters at the store to do laundry, they had none! Looks like if you ran a park with this many campers and you had a laundromat that only takes quarters, then you might want to stockpile a few rolls of quarters. We wound up driving ten minutes to a store outside the park just for quarters to do a load of laundry. Then there are the bathrooms and showers. They were in poor shape, needing paint and general updating. There was an exhaust fan in the one we primarily used but it was covered with what appeared several inches of dust and debris. They were so steamed up that using them was miserable. One set of the bathrooms there had been remodeled but was not near us and I was told by another camper, they failed to install vents in the showers and had to rework them. I stayed there, as my daughter is in the Navy at Pensacola but will have to be desperate to stay there again. Will look for another park. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The location is great. Beaches were very nice and peaceful. The campsites had plenty of room but was really just an open field with paved campsites. Roads were narrow and many vehicles were parked partially in the road including at the first turn into our loop which prevented the 5th wheel ahead of me from making the turn until one of the two vehicles could be moved. Took about 15 minutes. Restrooms were clean. Didn't ever use the showers. There were 4 individual unisex shower rooms. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.
