We stayed in the Gulf Breeze loop for 9 nights. The good news is the campground is directly on the gulf, so getting to the beach is a short walk away. The one bath house is very nice, the other is in desperate need of remodel. There are no sewer hook ups, the sites are cramped and electric is 30 amp. We had electrical issues; even with limited usage we kept tripping the breaker. Our fridge wouldn't cool, although we had no problems prior to being there or after we left. The park sent somebody to look at our pedestal; he found it to be hot, and had to get parts b/c parts broke into pieces when he unscrewed it. We had our 2 yr old grandson with us, who has had 2 surgeries and can't get water in his ears, making showers difficult. Instead we bought a small baby swimming pool to give him a bath each day. On day 6, after doing so for almost a week, a ranger came to our site and told us her boss saw the little blow up pool sitting on our site and said we could no longer do this. We were given no explanation as to why, and there's nothing in the sheet of park rules that mentions anything to prohibit it. At the same time our "neighbor" hung 2 hammocks from the trees, which goes against park rules and nothing was said. Lastly, we (and several other campers) had very limited cell service. The park is quiet at night, and the beach is lovely, although we decided to head home a day early (our reservations were for 10 days). We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is divided into 2 sections, Gulf Breeze and Shady Pines. Gulf Breeze is the closest to the beach. The sites on that side are smaller, on top of each other with barely any privacy in between sites. If you choose this side, be sure to stay on the outer loop and not any interior sites. We were at site #43 and it was bad! It was difficult to back into because of other cars parked all over the place. Also, most of the sites in Gulf Breeze have little shade. They do have palm trees and therefore many palm rats crawling all over the sites. The Shady Pines side seemed much nicer, large sites with shade and more privacy. Unfortunately, when were there they had a water main break the day before, it was repaired but the toilets in our bath house did not flush for 2 days and the bathroom floors were also dirty. The park is located in a wonderful, unspoiled part of Florida with beautiful beaches. It is secluded so the wifi is nonexistent but there is a signal at a pavillion on the Shady pines side that had a Hughes net satellite. There is a small store near the marina if you need basic supplies but the closest town is probably 25-30 minutes away. If I were going again, I would stay in the Shady Pines section, have a strong wifi hot spot and a satellite TV dish. This definitely is a place for beach lovers, boaters and fisherman since that is really the only thing there to do. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you need groceries or are looking for fast food then stop in Port St. Joe before heading 30 minutes down Cape San Blas Rd to the park. There is a Piggly Wiggly grocery store, a McDonald's and a Subway in town with a few other restuarants.

We stayed on the Shady Pines side, gorgeous wooded sites within earshot of the surf. Our site was very level and across from the boardwalk to the beach so there were a lot of people coming and going, which was nice for meeting people. We took the boardwalk over to the Gulf Breeze side, it looked nice too but more sun on most sites. There was good wifi at the Bayview Picnic area in the screened in pavilion, which is a cross from the Gulf Breeze campground and within walking distance from Shady Pines. The only drawback is dogs are not allowed on the beaches, even on the bay side. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Port St. Joe is a bit of a drive but we went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday and it was worthwhile for us. We bought a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables and a home-baked key lime cake. We were hoping for fresh fish or seafood but none available. Cape San Blas is known for the dog friendly beaches so we drove over to Cape Palms Park, which was very nice even though the dogs had to be leashed.

Do not attempt to back in to a spot in the Shady Grove campground at night. The roads are narrow with big trees closely lining them. It's hard to turn while backing without bashing-in your truck fender. Big trees also stand right at the edge of the pads. The pads are walled in by jungle-like vegetation. You can see nothing through it. Air does not circulate through the area. At nights it is incredibly dark and mosquito-infested. We wasted 30 minutes trying to get in safely and gave up. We left and went to the Gulf Breeze campground and found it easier to get in to in the dark, but still infested by mosquitoes. You cannot sit outside your RV. The camp ground is not pretty but the beaches are incredible. We cut our visit short and left to go back inland to a nice lake with open campsites and no Kamikazes. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We chose the Gulf Breeze section since it is closer to the gulf. There are some partially shaded sites. The sandy sites are irregular and fairly close. Our site was listed as pull thru - it was at the end of the road. If no one was on the site, you could drive thru to the main loop. There are a few paved sites across from the older bathhouse. As stated previously, there is a newer bathhouse that is much nicer. There is also an outdoor shower for rinsing after the beach. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Make reservations - it was full over the weekend and almost full on the weekday.

Walking the beach along the dunes was a highlight. We saw deer on top the dunes.

Port St. Joe is a quaint little town with nautical/antique shops, park with a a lighthouse, restaurants, etc.

Beautiful campground. Gulf Breeze loop is a bit tighter than Shady Pines. They were running water lines when we arrived in The Gulf Breeze loop; which was a nuisance since the Bobcats and dozers were noisy. Other than that, it's a wonderful campground. Great kayaking. The closest grocery store is about 45 minutes away in Port St. Joe, so stocking up is important. There was a Catholic Mission just a couple miles out of the park. There was a big "closed" sign on the door. Not sure if it's operational or just seasonally closed while we were there. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is perfect getaway to just relax; we have been camping here for last couple of years in spring and fall for 2 weeks at a time. There is 9 1/2 miles of beautiful undeveloped beach at campground and bay is short distance on other side. Sand dunes are as high as 20-25 feet at campground with 2 boardwalks to beach; one for each campground. Great place to ride bikes and kayak in bay. There are times you may be only people on beach. This is one of our favorite parks to camp. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They just installed free wi-fi station at playground area. There are 2 convenient stores nearby but otherwise shopping is limited. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We loved this park, for its beautiful native vegetation and for the wonderful white sand beach. We stayed in the Gulf Breeze loop, but when we return we'll try for the Shady Pine section. The latter has wonderful shade and great vegetation. The boardwalk connecting the 2 campgrounds provides a beautiful walk. The beach is to die for...with few people on it. This is a quiet and sane section of the Florida coast.....about the best we've seen. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

St Joe State Park has one of the most beautiful beaches we've seen so far on this trip. Beautiful shoreline with sand dunes that seem to stretch for miles. The campground itself was good. The sites were of various sizes and ours was one of the narrower. We couldn't put out our awning because of the trees. There are two loops and we definitely preferred the one we were in. The other loop seemed to be more crowded. Nice biking and hiking. Would definitely stay again. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice level concrete pads. Water and electric fine. Clean nice showers and restrooms. Lot was only a 100' walk to beach boardwalk. Palms shaded the site in the late afternoon. A real nice park. Beach was white sand but had quite a bit of seaweed piles and water was cloudier than Panama City. Was clear enough we saw a stingray on the bottom just several feet from the edge. We camped at T.H. This state park is at the end of the peninsula situated between the bay and the gulf. It is one of the most beautiful state parks we've ever stayed in. We camped in the Shady Pines loop. There is enough room between sites to offer some privacy. As the name suggests, there are lots of pines and other vegetation. And lots of no-see-ums mostly in the evening. A little bug spray took care of that problem. We also encountered several of the beach mice/rats. Hopefully we didn't carry any of them with us when we left. We were parked just near the beach access which was really convenient. You can't see the beach from the RV sites due to the high dunes. It is such a serene and quiet beach. Very uncrowded. We would consider staying here again in cooler weather. With 30 amp we could only run one A/C and it got pretty hot. I do caution large RVs as far as the roads. They are very narrow with lots of trees and, unfortunately, vehicles jutting out of some sites. I had to guide my husband through several twists and turns. The hardest part was parking the motorhome as we had to maneuver to avoid trees. We also blocked other vehicles from passing until we were situated because there is no room to pull over. The park ranger even questioned whether we would be able to get into the site. But we did! BTW all the park rangers were very friendly and helpful. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

The other recent reviews are spot on but failed to mention the Gulf Breeze campground. We reserved a spot here since it is closer to the beach; however, we found our site to be extremely close to both our neighbors. Most of the sites at Gulf Breeze are very close with little or no vegetation in between so we moved over to Shady Pines for our second night. Most of the Shady Pines sites are spaced some distance apart and the walk to the beach is not much further than Gulf Breeze. Some of the Shady Pines sites have concrete pads but none were available during our stay. We did see numerous "Beach Mice" (I believe they're actually Cotton Rats) and I have read where they will bite campers so beware. Noseeums made for an uncomfortable stay. We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

Love this place. Sites are small but private, they keep lots of natural vegetation between sites so once you back in and it may time some time and friendly neighbors you really feel like you are on a private island in FL. Boardwalks along the ocean, great for biking and walking. Bayside and gulf swimming and kayaking. A mini dump station in center of loop for sewage totes., it was so much quicker. Great bird watching and miles of pristine beach. You only share this will fellow campers and there is plenty for everyone. We camped at T.H.
