The low mark is for the high price - not much to see or do on Pine Island and the park was half empty. I believe they should have discounts for off-season weekday stays. We did not have anybody on either side of us. Had there been, it would have been extremely crowded. We were in the back - had a view of empty permanent 5th wheels and manufactured homes but all were well-maintained. The park has a huge number of permanent homes but most are well taken care of. The no-see-ums were AWFUL. The staff was friendly and helpful with an escort to the site and offer to help with any needs. The pool area was very nice and the clubhouse with billiards and ping pong and a couple of treadmills was not fancy but adequate. The roads in the park are paved and easy to navigate. We probably would not come back, but were glad we did this one visit and did enjoy the stay at the KOA. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Pine Island itself is kind of boring but the north end is pretty. For Pine Island, If you like to bike ride, the wide sidewalk runs from one end of the island to the other - the north end of the island is very beautiful. Also, check out the French bakery - we got there after it closed but the locals gave it rave reviews. Sanibel Island is a bit of a drive but awesome.

Overall Rating:

This was a very nice park with all the amenities we usually take advantage of. The staff were very friendly and the store was well-stocked. There were many open spaces (in the middle of April) so our neighbors were far away and it was quiet. However, wifi was very slow, phone reception was very poor and the cable connection was also poor. The site was drastically over-priced. Not nearly enough value for what we paid. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

There is an additional $4 per day fee. Nice park. Clean. Permanents are clean too. Everybody was very friendly Needed to borrow another cable TV cable because outlet was on passenger side of RV and far away and my cable wasn't long enough. My water hose just did reach. Electric hookup and sewer was on driver's side like most places. Nice paved bike path along road. I would come back here. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Motorhome.

We came to Pine Island to visit friends in Matlacha and picked the KOA as being the closest to our friends. On arrival the pool looked nice. However we never used the it. As with most RV camps, the sites are very close together. The neighbor had to move his truck so we could get in. Parking was very close with both of us just able to squeeze in. Check in was a little confusing while the staff figured out whether they should charge us the extra daily resort fee. They finally decided in our favor and left out the fee. Overall the campground was okay, basically just a place to park the rig while we spent time with out friends. Other people must like the park though because it was full of seasonal campers. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This place was nothing special. The rv campsites are very close together. The utilities were adequate, but there were very few cable channels available. Wifi was slow. There isn't much to do on Pine Island, and as a result we spent a lot of time fighting traffic in Matlacha trying to get off the island to actually do something. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Stayed for 7 nights. Traveling with friends but we were way apart. Spaces were tight and back in. Some park models as encore has joined in. Pad was cement and looked like a jackhammer had been used on it. Each section moved as our coach moved onto it. Fireants were present, had to request staff to take care of. Had a blurb in rules that they do "bite". We have them where we live and they are nasty. Had to throw water hose under coach to attach on passenger side. Neighbor was upset as we hooked up under his party awning, despite it being the only hook up for power available. Road in front was main through fare and busy most of day. Dog park was clear up in front, though there were several sites to deposit poo bags. Pool was very busy on daily basis. Backed onto a piece of land with chickens. Had early morning rooster call from break of dawn. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Motorhome.

If you want to party, good location. Beaches are not accessible and mostly private with local police patrols. Was not impressed with island, just a party island.

As is normal for south FL in winter (peak season), due to popularity and folks/snowbirders willing to pay, they get away with charging exorbitant prices. This is a combination KOA/Thousand Trails-Encore park. Club house, playground, tennis, dog run, shuffleboard, horseshoes, pool (a bit murky), hot tub, and some scenic small ponds scattered. They stack the sites like cord wood. Garbage is only picked up on certain days, but lazy neighbors will put trash out even on non-garbage days, so tight spacing gives one a lovely view of garbage. Pine Island is certainly no destination spot, not much to do/see here, no beach area to enjoy. It is a very long drive to civilization (AKA: normal shopping) in Cape Coral or Ft. Myers. We will not waste our time or money returning to the area. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Motorhome.

We started booking our Jan-Feb South Florida experience back in August, and as it turns out that was too late to get in anywhere near a beach (Pine Island has no beaches, but there is good fishing at the little island town of Matlacha halfway across the causeway). When we first arrived, they put us almost in the very back of the farthest loop. We were next to a bathhouse/laundry, but the next day I hauled out my laundry only to be told by my neighbor that the laundry, restrooms, and shower were all being renovated. So, the only laundromat was a good quarter mile away, by the entrance. Bummer. Then it turned out said neighbor was a redneck with a fondness for 12-packs of beer and LOUD 70s rock and country music late into the night. We woke up to noise of the port-a-potties being delivered the next day by the disabled bathhouse. Once they started demolition, I started sneezing from the dust and the mold on the wood they were tearing out. When I complained, a few days later, they offered to move us closer in. Our new site, while not a pull-through, was better. We had a palm tree and palmetto thicket outside our bedroom window and nice, quiet neighbors, and we could walk to the lakeside clubhouse or the laundromat/office. To our surprise when we checked out, though, the price for the new site was $200 more, a total of $1,200, despite its being a back-in instead of a pull-through, which they didn't mention when they offered to move us! One thing I like about this campground is the wide concrete bike trail all along Stringfellow Road. I was able to take a nice long, safe bike ride in the sunshine several times a week, which was great. The pool area is very clean and well-kept-up, and the laundromat has lots of washers. We never had to wait to do our laundry despite the other laundromat being closed the whole time we were there. There was also a scary incident with the electrical power. The power surged one night, causing our inverter to pop loudly over and over. The next day, our 30-amp adapter was burnt black on one of the contacts. The park replaced the adapter, and nothing else appeared to be damaged. Be sure you have a surge protector! We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like to fish and you're there a while, get a parking permit in Matlacha and fish off the pier there. Snook, redfish, rays, etc, and visiting manatees and dolphins! There is a nice beach on the Sanibel causeway, away from Sanibel traffic.

During a vacation we stayed at this KOA for 7 nights. For the holiday season the park attendance was surprisingly sparse. Unfortunately, all of the large RVs were stationed close together at the entrance. When we walked around the compound we found that there was plenty of space in other sections. We were pleased with a local RV cleaning company that partners with the KOA to provide wash and wax at a decent price. The people at this campground are really nice. We made friends right away. The dog park at this KOA is large and well kept. We would stay here again because the community and amenities are worth it. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Extremely tight sites. There is very little space and almost no privacy. Plenty of amenities but we used very few. Unless you use many amenities, the price is not worth it for simply the site. Our site wasn't level. WiFi was slow and cable was not HD. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Drive south to St James City for some nice local restaurants. Expect lots of tourist traffic when getting on the island going through the town of Matlacha on weekends.

Stayed there for a month and would never come back. This place should not call itself KOA. Nothing was satisfactory and many times we considered leaving. Here it goes:

- The sites were so close together with no privacy. It felt like a refugee-camp.

- The toilets were dirty; shower heads spraying wrong direction; quite often no soap and/or paper towels despite our numerous complaints.

- A small pool servicing over 200 hundred sites - standing room only.

- Nice gym equipment with no A/C in the room (boiling!)

- The whole place was infested with no-see-ums which kept us prisoners inside.

- To get off the island took forever. One has to inch through touristy Matlacha, and onto congested Ft.Myers.

- The staff was not very friendly and few times I had to jump out of the way of the speeding employee golf carts.

- The swamp behind our site was smelly and teaming with insects.

I can honestly say it was the worst camping experience of our many years of RVing (and rather expensive at that). We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This park almost appears to be a "failed park model" park. There were many fulltime units which we had never seen at a KOA before. They do have nice facilities and a nice dog park on site. All utilities worked well. Probably our only complaint was the workers not getting along. Seemed to be arguing every time we would see them. We were disappointed that there was not much to do out on Pine Island. You almost never see the water due to all the mangroves. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We wanted to get away at the last minute during high season in Florida, so this was the only place we could find. Next time that's the situation, we will stay home.

As others have said, they spring the $4 a day "resort fee" on you upon check in..... Just build it into the daily fee! The sites are Crammed in. Our neighbor's have another RV about a foot from the back of their rig. We're fortunate that the site behind us has a tiny A-liner in it or we'd be in the same boat. The Internet is fairly reliable and the cable TV is OK, but the property looks like it could use some TLC. But the bad here outweighs the good. We won't bother coming back. We camped at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Waterfront Restaurant and Marina in St.James City was fantastic! Raymary Street grill was also good....great breakfast there! There are a couple of great restaurants in St.James City and there's a sidewalk that goes the length of the island to get around safely.
