Park was very quiet when we spent 3 days there, possibly a combination of out of season and red tide. Park is well looked after, bathrooms and showers are very basic, but clean, sites are quite level, mostly crushed shell with nice concrete pad. No wifi, no cable, and no dogs. Remember it's cash or check only, no credit cards. Our site (210) was very nice, quite private, well shaded. Beach is walkable (1/2 mile), or by bike. Be sure to bring or rent bikes as Sanibel is very bike friendly. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Great restaurants within walking and biking distance, closest one, lazy Flamingo, was very good, great fried oysters. We biked to the nature preserve and did the 4 mile trail. Nothing particularly interesting as we live in Florida. Traffic not too bad when we were there, but we understand it can become really bad. Be aware, toll bridge is $3 per axle (and yes, they insist that every car has two axles), so $12 for us with trailer, plus any car parking by the beach is $5 per hour.

Location, location, location....Periwinkle is the only game in town. The park has been there for years. I went there as a college student and camped in the tent section which is still there. We did have to park our coach forward of our concrete slab as our steps would have run into it as it is a bit high. No big deal though. I appreciate a concrete slab to keep nature outside. Great utilities but our Sprint coverage was dismal...no WiFi. The front windshield faced West so a sunscreen is a must as it was HOT. Staff is always friendly and accommodates us. Our friend checked on spots for next year and they are booked until mid-April so advance reservations are critical if you want to visit. After Easter is usually no problem and the traffic thins out. The back road way into the park is a secret! Middle Gulf drive takes you there to avoid the long lines of traffic on the main drag. Bikes are a must. The ride to the beach on the bay is just a few minutes away and a great swim on a hot afternoon. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Handicap stickers let you park your vehicle at any parking lot on the island for free (got confirmation from the Chamber of Commerce). We attended a lecture at Ding Darling on Swallow tail kites which was great. The preserve is such a national gem!

This is our second visit to this campground. It's a nice campground and check in was easy. We had full hook ups and some sites have a concrete pad. There are a lot of permanent trailers but it is neat and well cared for. The restrooms and showers were nice and clean. There is some vegetation between some of the sites so there is a little bit of privacy. They have a large pond with lot of birds and ducks to feed and watch. They have several tropical birds on display and 3 times a week a volunteer puts on a show and tells you all about the birds--extremely interesting. You can hold one if you like. The beach is about ½ mile away and the entire island is bike friendly. We pretty much park our RV and bike everywhere on the island. The traffic on the island can be bad in the winter months so sometimes you are going faster than the cars. There is a Walmart on the way in and a Publix grocery just before you cross the toll bridge to Sanibel--stock up. They do have 2 grocery stores on the island but they tend to be a little pricey. But they both are nice for anything you forgot. They do not allow pets. They do not take credit cards. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge, Bailey-Matthew Shell Museum and the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village are all worth a visit. There is a great Farmers Market on Sunday with fresh produce, fruits, seafood (got some great shrimp), plants, prepared food, and just about everything else--wonderful. Captiva Island has it's Farmers Market on Tuesday. Dairy Queen is right across the street!

If you want to camp on Sanibel you don't have any other choices. This is an older campground with mostly park models. There are a few loops that can accommodate RV's but the sites are close together with very little privacy. Full hookups but few amenities. There is no Wifi or cable and no swimming pool. The highlight, at least for us, were the tropical birds that are on display. The bird show, put on by volunteers, was very good. I was less than impressed with the camp personnel. An escort to the campsite was a nice touch but the lady on the golf cart drove very fast and was lost to site after the first turn. We eventually caught up to her at our campsite - thankfully the map was easy to follow and we didn't have to rely on the escort. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Because of location (Sanibel), beach, bird sanctuary, friendliness of seasonals, this is first campground out of 90 reviewed that I've ever considered for long term stay. Older park with about 70-80% park models and rest of park reserved for campers of all types. Waiting list for prime winter months. We're close to our neighbors, but what attracted us most was how outgoing our neighbors are. Happy hour at 5 p.m. With our neighbors to talk about the activities for the day. Facilities are older but clean. Surface is grass and sand with cement patio. Sanibel is very bike friendly with lots of dining options. Beach is short bike ride away. Will definitely be back. No dogs allowed and cash only. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The park was pleasant. It was nice to ride around the park. We got to see the diverse birds (parrots, swans, ducks, etc). And it also had monkeys with in a cage. The ducks and swans were seen swimming, resting and feeding around the canals the park has. It was right in the middle of Periwinkle Way within biking distance many delicious restaurants and clothing/souvenier stores. The beach was within biking distance too!! However, there is no parking for vehicles except the county beach parking which cost $4.00 an HOUR!!! When we went the whole stink from Lake Okeechobee was going on and although it was on the east coast, the water was not attractive. We chose not to go in it for safety reasons. That left us yearning for somewhere to take a dip since the park does not have a pool. That was really the down side of the stay. Other than that, I have to say I would probably stop here on my way back home next summer. I felt safe and the ladies were really NICE!!!! We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Once must visit the Island Cow restaurant. (LOVED THE GRITS AND MUFFINS.) And the Ice Cream Shop at the west end of the Island (can't recall the name) a must visit. The Light House restaurant was also very good for breakfast. Gas is little more expensive in the Island so fill up before going over the bridge. You must visit the Mall which is to the right of the highway before the bridge. Nice clothing and good pricing!!!

When we first checked in we were taken to our campsite by a park employee ( that was really nice). The park itself is very clean and was quiet. Only a few minutes from the beach we rode our bikes. The bathrooms were very clean, however they do need to be updated. I didn't like the fact that there were no doors for the shower stalls just curtains, the main door to the bathrooms was a screen door that wouldn't shut. Once I got pass that the bathrooms really are very very clean and we had no problems. The park is so close to everything just a bike ride away. When you check in they give you a lot of pamphlets about the area and even a menu for the restaurant across the street(yum). So we would certainly go back and stay at this park with no hesitation. Since we stayed in the summer we would have to wait until fall( just to hot for us). The campsites were large enough that we didn't feel crowded. The park also has a small exhibit of exotic birds, monkeys and lemurs. Check it out I don't think you will be disappointed, we weren't. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Sanibel is famous for it's shelling best time is low tide. Make sure to bring your bikes but if you don't have any there are plenty of places to rent them. No see ums are horrible get some lotion for these pests or they will eat you alive( at night), you can get this lotion at most of the gift shops. There is a toll bridge you have to cross to get to the island.

This is our second time here. Stayed 5 days. Very quiet. Half mile to the beach. We couldn't get satellite for the trees but it was hot so the shade was welcomed. Bring your bikes. Lots of traffic. You can ride easier than driving.

The staff is very friendly. When you check in remember to bring cash or check. They don't accept credit cards. The park is mainly a mobile home park with many quaint little campers and trailers that looked to have been there for years. But, don't let that dissuade you from staying there. They're all very well kept with flowers and landscaping. The road is packed sand and crushed shell. The turns are a little tight but we made it to our site with our toads still attached. We'll be back. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

The sites are sand mixed with grass and are level with a concrete patio...services worked good, no cable no wifi but got channels from antenna, cell service was ok, AT&T....we had plenty of room to maneuver our 36' mh...restrooms and showers are clean but need a upgrade....there are a lot of permanent residents but their sites are neat and tidy....close to everything on the island, a great place to stay if your spending all your time on the island....we would come back.... We stayed a week and had a great time, could bike to the beach, approx 5 min ride. We bought our unit with a full bathroom so we can use our own facilities. Did check out the washroom and it was clean but not overly large, but then again, that's why we book full hookup sites and haven't used a campground washroom in years. WiFi has been discontinued and no cable, but good satellite signal. Pets are allowed, but no Dogs. We're planning to return again. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Too pricey for what you get. Limited wifi, (very limited) dirty bathrooms, rotting bath stalls with no locks on doors. They haven't spent a dime on those bathrooms in years! The beach is a 20 minute walk and their zoo attracts people during the day and rats at night. yuck! The staff was friendly but In 7 day stay, I never saw a cleaning person. I do not recommend this campground. Oh, I forgot to mention, our site's electrical box did not work! We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Sites and roads are crushed shells. When it rains (and it rains a lot in Florida) it is a mess. Good luck keeping the inside of your RV clean. Lots of bugs including the "no seeums" so spray yourself every time you are outside. Not close to any beach. WiFi does not work. There are very good parks on the Fort Myers side of the bridge which is close to Fort Myers beaches. Suggest you stay in Fort Myers and pay the toll to go over to Sanibel. Traffic is horrible. There are concrete pads but instead of digging out the area underneath they put them above ground level and the steps on my RV would not go out. Had to have my entrance in the shells and track all the dirt in. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Since 2004 we camped in this park and we are all so good we decide to buy a mobile home for choosing our site. Toilets and showers are old but clean, spacious and FREE! Hot water at pleasure. The staff is warm and hospitable. The beach has a half miles by bike, no need to pay for parking. A campsite in the natural environment, lots of greenery and wildlife. For RV sites, it is probably the only one in Florida allow the use of a additional tent, trailer etc. You must book in advance, they are very appreciate of all who pass by. It's a fun and safe camping for children. The speed limit is strictly observed. The mini zoo gives them a diversion limitless. We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Park is very nice and quiet. Our site was clean, concrete pad, and plenty large enough for us. We were traveling with another RV and there was a picnic table between us with ample space between. The roads are hard packed crushed shell and very smooth. The beach is a short 1/2 mile bike ride and there were lots of restaurants within a 5 minute bike ride.
