Hands down the cleanest most rustic and entertaining park in south Florida. Superbly maintained and beautifully done. Loads of wildlife and trails. Fun for all ages. Excellent parking for even the biggest big rigs. One of three parks in the facility have sewer hookups on site. The others have nice dump stations. Ultra clean bathrooms and very clean park overall. Helpful rangers and friendly people. Concession and outpost on site. Mailbox at gate. After hours access. 5 stars! We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Great state park. Nice sites, very clean and great hiking and biking. The restaurant and gift shop is very nice with view of Myakka River. If you want to see gators galore, this is the place to go, but that means no swimming but plenty of wildlife. We saw gator, deer, rabbits, armadillos and more. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

This is the second time we stayed here. We live about 40 minutes away and it's great for us to book on short notice to get away from home. Site 52 is an easy Pull Through wide and long site. It's right across from rest rooms. Electric, water and sewer hookups were great. This park is huge and the campground is miles from the boat ride and concession area. It's a great value, especially with Florida Senior 50% discount. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Get off I-75 at Clark Road exit 205 and head east about 8 miles to the main entrance. We initially followed our GPS to an alternate entrance north but found out that it's only open on weekends and we had to drive about another 40 minutes around the park to get to the main entrance.

This was our second 2 week visit to this park, and just like the first one, we really enjoyed it. The walking trails are well maintained, and the canopy walkway was fun. There were plenty of gators to view along the river, including right from the roadway bridge that has parking available at both ends. The airboat tour on the lake is both fun and educational, but we felt the tram ride was not worth the cost. Our full hookup site (including sewer) in the Palmetto Ridge section was spacious and well separated from the neighboring sites by foliage. The utilities were reasonably well located, with all sites in this section having 20/30/50 amp power. Verizon and AT&T signals were weak here, but our Maximum Signal booster amplifier kept us in touch with the world. Our site had a good satellite view for either Dish or DirecTV, and we could receive both the Tampa and Ft Myers over the air stations. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are many stores and restaurants about 20 minutes away in Sarasota. There is also a Publix market about 10 minutes away in Bee Ridge. The fairly new Sarasota National Cemetery is just a few miles away, and well worth a visit and at least a drive through.

Beautiful park and ver nice campground. We stayed in full hook up loop , Palmetto Ridge. The center of the loop has huge pull throughs, and good privacy in most sites. We enjoyed biking the scenic road, checking out the alligators from top of bridge, and the peace and quiet. Only downside was poor Verizon reception, we did get a some local channels on TV. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Florida Senior Resident 50% discount rate for three nights. Site was a large, level, gravel back-in site with FHU and 50 amp service. We had good satellite reception and good Verizon cell reception. Verizon data reception was inconsistent. There is lots of vegetation between sites. We would stay here again. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Park was well maintained. Volunteer very personable, kept sites and bathrooms clean. Quiet park, not anything for children to do. Picnic table, bbq and fire ring provided. Separate area for picnics, fishing and wildlife viewing. Saw many alligators, deer, birds. Airboat rides at reasonable price. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

I stayed in site 58. This is part of the newer camping loop called Palmetto Ridge. The campground has paved roads and the sites are hard packed gravel. It was very roomy in general with a lot of space. I found it easy to get in and out of with my 34 ft class A. for you experienced campers, maybe that's no big deal but this was only my 2nd trip and on my 1st trip I tore a small hole in my awning due to the low hanging branches while backing in. So, for me, I appreciated this. There are restrooms and laundry machines. In general Myakka is a very clean place. They keep the grounds in very good condition. I would not want to stay here in the summer though. There was hardly any shade at all and it got pretty hot. If you're looking for natural Florida habitat this is a good location. Gators everywhere! Lots hiking trails. This is a very large park and you could easily spend a week here wandering around. The cell signal for ATT was pretty much non existent. I would randomly get 1 bar but it was not usable. My verizon jetpack worked about 1/2 of the time. For connectivity, this park is not good. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

There are 3 campgrounds in this park. We stayed at Palmetto Ridge, which is the nicest campground. Old Ridge and Big Flats have dirt/sand sites with only water & electric. Palmetto Ridge has paved road and crushed rock sites with water, sewer & 50 amp. The sites are wide & deep with heavy vegetation between sites. The restrooms are modern & spotless. Our Verizon was almost non-existent but we received many over-the-air TV stations. It rained & standing water was an issue as were mosquitoes. Big Flats is closest to the concession area. This is a beautiful park and we would stay again, in Palmetto Ridge. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Camped in the 45" motor home with tow car. Suggest you unhook tow car in the area provided after entry station at the south park entrance. Some of the interior roads within the Palmetto Ridge have sharp curves, which are difficult to maneuver. The interior roads are paved and sites are gravel. We stayed in the new Palmetto Ridge campground. It has full hookups including 50 amp power. The sewer connections at each site might require an extension hose and are rather elevated. There is a good distance between you and your neighbor with vegetation between. Some sites were open, some had partial shade, and a few had extensive shade. Verizon cell was spotty at the campground with usually no service. Our site was open, so we had no problem with satellite TV. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Biking, hiking, fishing, and critter watching are wonderful. Don't miss the Canopy Walk. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Campground is 13 miles from I-75 and its amenities. Other than the huge park, there is nothing nearby. We took the boat ride on the upper lake. The boat tour guy was great. The concession area next to the upper lake offers dining and supplies as well. You can rent canoes and other gear.

We had a pleasant stay in the Palmetto Ridge loop. Quiet, attractive and clean. Not a 10 only because of the amount of standing water after rains. Site 64 had both ends blocked by standing water the entire two weeks, other sites (62, 65, 70, 52, 54) and approaches to the bathhouses also impacted. Our site (52) was a large and level pull through and conveniently located across from one bathhouse. Both bathhouses have one washer and one dryer. Single stream recycling available next to the dumpster and a recycling bin for the small 1-lb propane bottles is across the road at the entrance to the Old Prairie campground. No dedicated lanes for campers at park entrance so there is sometimes a wait to enter on weeekends. Firewood is available at the concession at the marina for $6/bundle. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

As others have noted, the Palmetto Ridge section is awesome! It has full hookups, very unusual for a state park, and very well spaced, private sites, which is unusual for full hookups. The bathrooms were very clean, and the personnel actually rake each site after each camper leaves. Oh, yeah, the sites are full gravel and level, very neat and clean. The only reason we didn't rate it higher is because we had virtually no phone (Verizon) and therefore no internet. For an overnight stay we didn't care, but it would not have worked for long term. Great park, though, we would return. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Rate includes taxes. This is our first time at this state park, and we are very impressed! We are in the newer Palmetto Ridge campground, with 50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups at each site. The two older campgrounds in the park are electric and water only. The sites here on the ridge are spacious and separated by bushes and trees. Each site is paved with raked gravel, except for two ADA sites at each bath house that are paved with blacktop. There's a fire ring and a raised grill at each site, along with a picnic table. The park is very quiet at night, and during the day the volunteer hosts are constantly taking care of cleaning the bath houses, raking vacant sites when a guest leaves, and other maintenance chores. Verizon cell service is marginal but useable, and the closest local TV stations are about 40 miles away. Every Wednesday morning there's a coffee hour at a pavilion near the campground, where we can meet and greet our neighbors. The same pavilion hosts a "Florida Tales" story telling session Wednesday evenings. Other parts of the park offer hiking trails, a tram tour, air boat lake tour, guided walking tours, and other attractions. Our two week stay here has been fantastic, and we very much look forward to coming back again. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.
