We arrived on Thursday evening and departed Monday. Stayed in Palmetto Ridge, which has a number of pull thru sites. Unfortunately with the rain we've had this year the sites were saturated and with showers most afternoons the roads were covered (as were a number of sites). Traveling with our dog we were concerned with the possibility of snakes every time we opened the door for him to go out because of standing water in the palmettos all around our site. Because of the low land/wetness, sewers are raised making it difficult to have good drainage. The bugs were terrible, mosquitoes and sand fleas ate us up. Do not go during July when it's rainy and muggy. I don't believe the restrooms were cleaned while we were there as the shower floors were dirty and the drain was thick with hair. I've enjoyed many of Fl. State Parks but this one we will not revisit. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here in our 36' motorhome. We were in site 83 and the site was extremely long and wide. Nice shade trees with moss hanging down from trees which gave privacy to spaces. Utilities worked great and were easy to access. Gravel pads. Great park to bird and view alligators. Will be going back as we live close by and a great place to get away. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This place books up with Florida locals and snowbirds in the winter so book ahead. After a lot of rain I have heard there can be some flooding.

Beautiful campground and park. Private back in camping spots with a lot of shade and greenery. Nice spot for hot summer days. Good hookups. Picnic tables need sprucing up. Dump station needs updating with longer rinse hoses. Beautiful wildlife loops - truly old Florida with great wildlife. This will be on my list to do again. Really relaxing. Things are far apart and you will need transportation as it's too far to walk from most camping spots. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Our favorite FL state park so far. Huge park, miles of gorgeous trails, lots of wildlife, lots of gators and quiet. We stayed in Palmetto Ridge. Every pull through site is large enough for the longest rig and tow, as are most of the back in sites. We were in a back-in site this time and had plenty of room. Excellent Verizon and satellite reception. There is a short canopy walk which we enjoyed. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We camped in the Palmetto Ridge campground, which is newer for this park. The amenities in this section are far superior to the other campgrounds, with gravel surfaces, sewer hook-ups, numerous pull-through sites for large RVs, and three sparkling bath houses to choose from. Most of the sites are in partial to full sun, but we were lucky to have a mostly shady site. We brought our bikes as this is a fantastic park to bike through. Myakka is one of my favorite parks in the Florida SP system. The wildlife here is outstanding. We did not take the boat tour; years ago on another camping trip (we stayed in the cabins) we kayaked south into the lower lake where I saw enough alligators to last me the rest of my life. There are possibly thousands of gators in this park, so watch your dogs. We had wild pigs come through our campsite one night which was a bit unnerving, along with the usual raccoons and armadillos. Sarasota is a few miles up the road with plenty of stores and restaurants. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

One of the best FL State parks, and our favorite. Palmetto flats is newest section and has full hookups. CAUTION: Palmetto Ridge has two PULL-IN ONLY sites (60 and 61, which was our site). We were thrilled to get any spot there but only noticed the pull-in limitations a few months before we were headed there. Had not heard of pull-in only sites before, so we called the Park Ranger before we cancelled and he felt sure we could make it work. Pull-in only sites have hookups on the LEFT SIDE as you pull into the site, so backing in won't work. Thankfully our trailer was only 24 feet so we were able to pull in, unhook, and then back my tow vehicle out of the site, although it was a tight fit driving by my trailer. I don't believe there's enough room for a 5th wheel to use 60 or 61. Additionally, the sewer connection is more than 20 feet from the electric and water, so had to use two sections of sewer line and almost needed an extension cord to reach the electrical. Also, the sewer connection is on a concrete pedestal about 1 1/2 feet above the ground and made draining from my trailer difficult. That said, the sites are spacious, private, level and covered with gravel edged in concrete. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a new Publix about 15 minutes away on Bea Rd Extension. Birdwalk is great just before sunset for bird watching. Bring your bikes and kayaks or rent one, its awesome here and gators won't bother you. Try the airboat ride on Upper Myakka Lake, then take the tram ride for half price and get lots of fascinating local history info.

Overall Rating:

Easily one of our favorite FL state parks so far. Huge park, miles of gorgeous trails, tons of wildlife, and peaceful. We stayed in the only big rig friendly, full hookup camp ground in the park which is Palmetto Ridge. Every pull through site is large enough for the longest rig and tow, as are most of the back in sites. The thing to be aware of in the back in sites is that several have very large lowish hanging branches. The back in sites do offer a bit more privacy though. About a 30 minute drive to a very nice dog friendly beach (Brohard paw park & beach) and about the same distance to an amazing people only beach (Siesta). A few dings...parts of the road and many sites need to have brush/shrubs trimmed back from the sides. There is one dog bag station at the dumpster, but no trash cans anywhere else in the park outside of the campground dumpster. Trash cans at trail heads and popular stops would be nice. Our site, 68, while very long had the sewer hookup at the entrance of the site so you are limited how far you could pull in by how much sewer hose you have. During weekends and holidays, there is a LOT of traffic through the park, much of it ignoring the speed limits. Speed bumps, especially in the busy areas would be appreciated. AT&T hotspot was just barely usable, but decent Verizon coverage. Pull through sites have clear sky views for satellite reception. Looking forward to our next stay here! We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Hands down the cleanest most rustic and entertaining park in south Florida. Superbly maintained and beautifully done. Loads of wildlife and trails. Fun for all ages. Excellent parking for even the biggest big rigs. One of three parks in the facility have sewer hookups on site. The others have nice dump stations. Ultra clean bathrooms and very clean park overall. Helpful rangers and friendly people. Concession and outpost on site. Mailbox at gate. After hours access. 5 stars! We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Great state park. Nice sites, very clean and great hiking and biking. The restaurant and gift shop is very nice with view of Myakka River. If you want to see gators galore, this is the place to go, but that means no swimming but plenty of wildlife. We saw gator, deer, rabbits, armadillos and more. This is the second time we stayed here. We live about 40 minutes away and it's great for us to book on short notice to get away from home. Site 52 is an easy Pull Through wide and long site. It's right across from rest rooms. Electric, water and sewer hookups were great. This park is huge and the campground is miles from the boat ride and concession area. It's a great value, especially with Florida Senior 50% discount. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Get off I-75 at Clark Road exit 205 and head east about 8 miles to the main entrance. We initially followed our GPS to an alternate entrance north but found out that it's only open on weekends and we had to drive about another 40 minutes around the park to get to the main entrance.

This was our second 2 week visit to this park, and just like the first one, we really enjoyed it. The walking trails are well maintained, and the canopy walkway was fun. There were plenty of gators to view along the river, including right from the roadway bridge that has parking available at both ends. The airboat tour on the lake is both fun and educational, but we felt the tram ride was not worth the cost. Our full hookup site (including sewer) in the Palmetto Ridge section was spacious and well separated from the neighboring sites by foliage. The utilities were reasonably well located, with all sites in this section having 20/30/50 amp power. Verizon and AT&T signals were weak here, but our Maximum Signal booster amplifier kept us in touch with the world. Our site had a good satellite view for either Dish or DirecTV, and we could receive both the Tampa and Ft Myers over the air stations. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

There are many stores and restaurants about 20 minutes away in Sarasota. There is also a Publix market about 10 minutes away in Bee Ridge. The fairly new Sarasota National Cemetery is just a few miles away, and well worth a visit and at least a drive through.

Beautiful park and ver nice campground. We stayed in full hook up loop , Palmetto Ridge. The center of the loop has huge pull throughs, and good privacy in most sites. We enjoyed biking the scenic road, checking out the alligators from top of bridge, and the peace and quiet. Only downside was poor Verizon reception, we did get a some local channels on TV.
