DO NOT use GPS to find this place; ours tried to take us down a narrow, CLOSED road. Use Google Earth to locate it or just stop at city hall, as we finally did. There are no internal park roads, you just drive across the grass to any available grass site and the manager will stop by to pick up payment (he lives in the park). We camped in a tree-shaded, FHU site next to the fence and the street to the park, but there was little traffic noise. For the price, it was the best bargain of our 5500-mile trip. We camped at Sopchoppy City Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The boardwalk to the river and the historic buildings with descriptive signs are interesting. And we might have used our inflatable kayak here but an inflatable in a river full of alligators? No thanks!

E/W sites on riverbank are beautiful, but probably tight for rigs longer than 35 feet or so. Full hookup sites along fence line by road (quiet road) can handle longer rigs. No reservations. First-come, first-served. Property caretaker will drop by for fee. Decent shade. Good Verizon signal. Just a couple of OTA TV channels. Boat ramp and fishing dock.

I would have ranked this park higher but the bathrooms were really filthy. Hopefully this is a temporary situation, easily fixed by park management if they want to.

Dump station is actually not in the campground. It is down the road a little bit, just past the large ball field/running track next to the campground. If you were coming at it from the wrong direction, it would not be easy for a longer rig to turn around to get in the right position for dumping unless you were to drive past it, circle a block somewhere, then come back. We camped at Sopchoppy City Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 3 nights on Memorial Day weekend. Our site was right on the bank of the Ochlockonee River with a great scenic view and a short walk from the dock. We camped here in a 40' fifth wheel and had no problem at all with access to the park and the sites.

The sites on the River have electric & water but there are full-hookup sites along the road at the front of the park. We much preferred the river front sites.

Overall, this is a great place to spend a few days. It is a quick run down to Carabelle and Appalachicola where there are numerous great seafood restaurants. The only place to eat in Sopchoppy is the pizza place in the center of town and open only on the weekends, but they do serve some great food!

The Sopchoppy campground host does a super job and treats his guests like family. We camped at Sopchoppy City Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice small, quiet town city park. All sites are grass as well as the access to the sites from the paved entrance road. Power is 30 amp electric by the road (back in) with water and sewer. The other sites are electric with water. When we were there the park had only 3 other RVs and one tent camper.

Finding the park can be a bit challenging because the GPS does not know the park by name; only address. Easy route with a motorhome is south from 319 intersection with gas station on the corner. Proceed through the 2 stop signs and turn left on Orange Street. You will see a large red brick church on your right as you make the turn. Continue through 2 stop signs to the end of the street. Turn right and follow this 2 blocks until it dead ends. Turn left and the park will be a short distance on your right. There is another park facility before you reach this park. The park name is Myron B. Hodge City Park in memory of one of the residents who was a large promoter of public recreational facilities.

The only negative might be the sharing of a pedestal for FHU requiring extra hose for one camper. There is no TV or satellite signal due to trees, but Verizon was no issue. There is a boat ramp on site into the river.

We would stay there again. We camped at Sopchoppy City Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

As you travel in the area, be sure to not miss your turn off 319 in the curve. As you get out of that intersection area, there is no place to turn a motorhome with toad for a very long way. It is all 2-lane through the country to the Gulf and US-98. Even that intersection is unlikely to offer enough turning room to go back to Sopchoppy. Been there and have the "T" shirt!

Overall Rating:

This is a hidden gem of a campground located at the Sopchoppy city park. The sites near the entrance road have FHU's and the river sites are water/elec. only. It's quiet, clean, seldom busy and first come/first served. All the state parks were booked so I came here. I was the only one here for two days! There is a shower room that was moderately clean. Open fires are permitted. Bird watching trails are on site. Since there are no reservations, come pick your spot and the friendly host will stop by to collect your fee. It may be cash and/or check only. Also, there is no laundry on site or nearby. IGA grocery is in town. There is a boat ramp and fishing pier on site. It looks like an excellent place to canoe and kayak. This place is unmarked on Google or other campground websites. We camped at Sopchoppy City Park in a Fifth Wheel.
