Interagency 50% Senior discount for two nights for a large, paved, pull-thru, 50 amp, water hookup site with a wooden deck overlooking a small cove of Allatoona Lake. A dump station is available. We had good Verizon cell and internet access. The trees prevented satellite TV reception. A busy train track is about a mile away and the noise does affect a quiet evening. Our GPS directed us to the Allatoona Dam Visitor Center instead of the McKinney campground; be sure to check the directions. We would camp here again. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Great campground with numerous lakefront campsites! Pros - level sites, fishing, water activities, great scenery Cons - Not full hookup, loud trains, long line to dump tanks. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Typical Army Corp park with great views of the lake. Interior roads are paved but, very narrow in spots making oncoming traffic hard to pass without getting off pavement onto soft shoulder. Some sites are close to others, as was mine, but a lot of sites have ample room in between. Very close to Acworth, GA with ample restaurants and things to do but everything is very crowded, expect waits. Entrance roads to campground are very winding and narrow at places, use caution while driving on these roads. Had a nice time inside park during the midweek but weekends are very noisy because of locals partying with large groups of people. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Any shopping you wish to do is available a short drive outside park. Restaurants also abundant outside of park in Acworth GA. Just expect congested roads and long waits at popular restaurants even during week-days, worse on week-ends.

We stayed for one night and wished we could have stayed more! We were in campsite #80. If you can get #82 or 98 they have a great view of the lake. Lots are spacious and offer some shade. Site surface is asphalt and features a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Two stars, just for the lakeside campsites....but I can't recommend McKinney. Read reviews elswhere, they are accurate. Great campsites, but a deeply ingrained culture of rudeness and outright hostility - nothing like anyone's ever encountered at a campground. The often referenced "extremely rude lady" at the office is just that, don't bother smiling and being pleasant, that apparently makes her even ruder. Strict? I was TWO whole minutes late pulling out from our campsite, the guy who rolled up on his golf cart yelled at me. Then, to make things worse our dog, who never strays, was briefly off leash because I was about to get her to jump in the car...she ran up to the guy to be friendly and he erupted "That's an automatic fine for being off leash!!!" This was my next door neighbor's favorite campground - so close to home - but last time he was there his dog broke his collar and chased a deer, up towards the office. They made him pack out and leave right away, no warning. A couple I met on the way to Blue Ridge said they were at McKinney and out on their scooters, which are street legal throughout GA, and were told they couldn't ride them because they were "like golf carts". They have two dogs, a friend of theirs came to visit just for a few minutes to borrow their kayak and was denied entrance because he had his dog with them and that would have made 3 dogs...for a few minutes. And don't waste your time pre-registering, they will never glance at your registration printout. We're booked at our favorite site there later this year, but now that I know we can be kicked out for the slightest infraction with no warning I guess I'll need to change our plans. Very sad, and I will contact the Corps of Engineers folks to register our dissatisfaction. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Tent Trailer.

This is a very nice campground with privacy between the rather spacious sites. I really didn't see any really bad sites. On the weekend the lake get noisy and busy with PWCs and boats. The roads and site pads are paved, with pea rock at each campsite which really helps with keeping the camp area clean from dirt and mud if it rains. The bath houses are small, but clean. TV stations are plenty coming out of Atlanta, but could not get the Satellite Dish to pick up a signal due to the tree cover. I really didn't see any really bad sites. Park staff can be a bit rude and very strict in rule enforcement. Deer were seen in and around the campground. Boat/ pontoon rental is available within 5 miles at one of the marinas in the area. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

As is typical with many COE parks - the setting was heavily wooded and beautiful. Reportedly there are 7 million visitors a year to this park - it is easy to see why. It is quite large and spread out over a big area. It is heavily wooded so satellite signals are not likely to get thru. There area few OTA stations available. We love to come to McKinney Campground. We have been going there for 27 years. My husband caught 59 crappie, a 4ft. gar, and good size catfish. Pretty productive fishing trip. However, this past time the restroom at the top of the hill above sites 86-91 were pretty disgusting. The main restroom in that area was pretty clean. Just beware there is one female attendant at the gate that can be pretty darn rude. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

The $13.00 rate reflect Interagency Senior Pass discount. This is a very nice campground. It was easy to get into and out of with a 38 ft. motor home towing a jeep. We were in Site #48 which was a level, pull-through. We were able to get quite a few TV stations with out antenna, and cell phones worked well (Verizon). It takes about 15 min. to get to the campground coming in from south bound I-65. We would stay here again. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Great park with beautiful views of Lake Allatoona. We were in 126 which had good access to the bathhouse but was on a loop off the main road. Beautiful Autumn foliage and lots of deer and turkeys. We will be back in the summer! We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Great COE park near Atlanta. The campground is great and sites are spread out. We loved our site which had a great view of Lake Allatoona. OTA tv was good with about 16 channels and Verizon was great. Utilities worked well. Only a couple of negatives one is the tight maneuvering requrired in certain areas. The other is not the campgrounds fault just the occasional train and road noise. You can get an interior site which buffers the noise. We would stay here again. This large campground has many waterfront sites which are very beautiful. The sites off the water have lots of space between your neighbors & most are heavily wooded. The site pads are paved, with crushed stone at the picnic table area. Campground roads are paved. Bathrooms are older but clean. We got a couple OTA TV stations. We could hear the roar of the interstate in the distance & train horns were noticeable at night. Our Verizon Mifi worked well. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

McKinney really is our favorite RV park. You can't beat the price! The sites are beautiful and well maintained. There is plenty of space between each site and the lake is easy to get to. We stayed in a handicap spot in the interior- it was paved and spacious even for our big rig. We have stayed here many times and the camp workers are always helpful. We will return again and recommend this park to others. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Motorhome.

I would not recommend this park for large motorhomes. We have a 43 ft and it was very tight trying to get into and out of the site. The site itself was very nice with a large patio area and an open view of the lake. We had to cut a dead limb to get into the site and ended up dented the fiberglass on a tree stump getting out. We had good AT&T service when in the campground. Electricity and water worked well. Most of the sites are very shady and can be difficult to get satellite TV reception. We did pick up a few over the air channels from the Atlanta area with the bat wing. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Motorhome.
