New owners try hard to accommodate. Sparkling clean pool, quiet park, great location just off interstate. I asked if they had a shade umbrella so I could enjoy the pool area, and 3 minutes later there it was. Excellent service, great pricing. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground is under new ownership, as of a week ago. They are great, first time campground owners working quickly to improve the grounds. During our four night stay, we observed them daily clearing brush, opening walking trails around the two ponds, lifting the tree canopy, cleaning the office area, etc.. They are friendly, eager to please, and committed to improving the park. The sites are not well defined, but the new owners are working to correct this. In the meantime they walk you to your site before you drive-in, to make sure you know where to go. (Once we walked the campground the site locations became obvious.) The spacious FHU (w/s/e) sites are grass over a sandy surface with a choice of 30amp or 50amp service. Best of all, most sites are shaded by wonderful Pines and Cedars. There are no paved pads as this is a "campground" style park not an "RV park" style park. All of the sites appear to be level, except site number 12; and all sites are easy to get into with the majority being pull-thru. We got our 36' Journey and our Suburban into Site 11 and level in just a couple of minutes, and we saw a larger Winnebago pull in after us and also get into their site and setup quickly without any issues. (They didn't even have to unhook their toad.) Even with the campground being close to I-75, it was remarkably quiet. We had our windows open for most of our stay and it was quiet enough for us to read and enjoy the nice weather. The sounds from I-75 were just a light background that didn't interfere with us enjoying the song birds. This is a wonderful park to pull over for a night of rest, or to stay a few days to just relax and unwind. The new owners have a lot of work to do, and are working quickly to improve the park. As full time RVers, we appreciate owners who want to make their parks clean, comfortable, and pleasant places to stay. So if any RVers are traveling through the area, patronize this campground and support these new owners. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

RV park junket, grass needed mowing, ant beds everywhere, limbs needed trimming, and the roads were basically dirt trails that meandered through the park in no order. No real organization of layout of park. No WiFi or TV even though they said it was there. We would Not stay here again. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Southern Gates RV Park for a week. After checking in the owners gave us an RV-shaped cookie and walked us to our pull-through site (all sites here are pull-through). The owners couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. The site was very level. The water, electric, and sewer connections were convenient. We had no problems with any of the connections. The park is quiet and peaceful with clean landscaping. The days that we didn't go to local parks and hung around the campground were peaceful and enjoyable. The laundry room featured two washers and two dryers at $1.25 each, which is very inexpensive for a campground, and they worked well. Although we didn't use them, the bathrooms looked clean. There is a pool which we didn't use as we stayed here in December. The campground is located on a quiet street where we were able to walk our dogs. We used our TV antenna and were able to get several channels in clearly, including local channels, MeTV, and GRIT. Within 10 miles there are several stores and businesses including Walmart, AutoZone, local grocery stores, Tractor Supply, a hardware store, restaurants, a movie theatre, and multiple gas stations. The only store closer than ten miles is down the block from the campground, and it seems to only sell crafts and small gifts. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Georgia Veterans State Park in Cordele is beautiful with trails, a military museum, and a marina. Providence Canyon (the "little Grand Canyon") is about 2 hours away but well worth the drive. In Albany the Riverfront Park is also beautiful, but the walking trails aren't the best. About an hour away is Maranatha Baptist Church, where former President Carter still teaches Sunday School on almost a weekly basis.

We found this campground via Passport America. We found the campground to be the easiest we have parked at in years of camping. You stop at the office, register, and they escort you right to your site. The next morning, you simply drive right out. The sites all look very level and they are so wide. We think it would be definitely be worth it even at their reduced rates rather than the half price we paid. There are not the "scary" long term residents you sometimes see in other campgrounds. We only counted 4 that looked like they were full time residents and their units were all clean and the areas around were spotless. We used our antenna and picked up all of the local channels. They came in very clearly. We will do our best to spread the word about this campground and all campgrounds who are willing to forgo half of their revenue to campers who really should appreciate it. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

An older park in need of much maintenance. Our price reflects the Passport America rate. Would never pay the asking non-discounted price of $50.00 for a 50 amp Pull-Thru. Acceptable for an overnite stop, but not much more. Many seasonal units that are pretty rundown, along with some Mobile Homes. Their Web Site talks about holding your Rally here, but with so few sites available it would have to be a really small Rally. They offer WiFi, but system must be down as you can connect, but no Internet Access. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

No tv antenna reception - we have a king jack. You don't find out til you are parked there is no cable, no tv reception and no internet service. (They have a service - it doesn't work at all) And there are no refunds after parking. I cannot for the life of me understand how they think this experience is worth $50, let alone the discounted cash rate of $25. It is a dilapidated park in the middle of nowhere with run down mobile homes as neighbors. Keep moving down the road. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

We were not planning on staying here but we had plumbing issues we needed to take care of so we stopped to deal with it. The owner could not have been more helpful. Our bathroom had decided it would take on a life of its own and we had water leaking everywhere. The owner helped out with tools and even got down into the trenches. The park meanwhile, was beautiful. The pool was a big hit with the kids. We don't usually use the bathhouse but we needed to and they were clean and decorated in the cutest way. We will try to schedule our drive in the future to make sure we can return. Thanks, Southern Gates Campground! We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful setting. Dirt and grass (weeds) sites. Beware! We picked up a colony of ants that stayed in our rig for 5 days. Gnats made it impossible to be outside. Unusable picnic table. Toilets and showers need cleaning and upgrading - just cleaning bugs and spiders would help. Won't return. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

We stopped here last fall and after reading the past 2 reviews, we were worried that something had happened to the park. It is beautiful and clean. We did notice that the bad reviews always seem to come from the people who pay the least. Southern Gates is a quiet and lovely campground. There were no stray dogs and the cabins are very pretty, not in disrepair. There is a great gas station at the exit called Plantation House. The gas prices are ridiculous but the store is full of fun souvenirs and local treats. We stayed during watermelon season and the owners were kind enough to give us a watermelon! Readers, please realize that not all reviews are true on this website. I am just sorry that campground owners do not have a chance to rebut what are obviously false claims. We will definitely come back every time we are up and down I-75. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed one night traveling to Florida. The park is old and very run down. When you exit 75 it's like a ghost town. Service station is closed. Pulling into the campground, office help very nice. Inexpensive site, nice pull through. Took a walk to the pond. Everything is overgrown and the pond is covered in green slime. Cabins were run down. Looks like abandoned mobile homes there although we did see people go in one very nasty looking place.

Felt very unsafe while we were there. Needed a key code to get into bathroom which leads me to believe others try to use bathroom.

No cable TV and wifi never worked. No fire pit, picnic table all broken down. Could not and would not use.

Will not return. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Should have paid more attention to the abandoned buildings in the area before we checked in. Only needed to lay over for a night on way to Florida so we weren't really concerned about amenities, which turns out not to be an issue since they have none. Nothing works here. There listing in the PA site is pure hookup. One of the managers hurried ahead of us to warn the residents to hide all their pitbulls. Felt we were in the movie Deliverance. Did not feel safe and was glad to pull out first thing in the morning. We choose this park because their ad said all sites are pull-thrus which we like when we are only laying over for just a night. Pull through is a misnomer as the electric post seemed to be just scattered around in some random fashion so who could tell where the sites begin or end. But, since they park was nearly empty except for the creepy residents, we just drove over the grass. Will never go here again. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great campground that is located less than 5 hours from Orlando. It was the perfect stopping point. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The park is very pretty. We did use the bathrooms and found them to be very clean and comfortable. It is mostly and overnight park but I could find enough in the area to stay again. Jimmy Carter's home and some Civil War history is nearby. The lady in the office said that the peanut brittle in Jimmy's hometown is the best. Pros: Close to I75, pull thru, clean restrooms Cons: Bug heaven, no cable TV, very slow WiFi, mostly seasonal 5 or 6 transient pull thru's. Middle of nowhere. Owners not thrilled with PPA despite no other transients. VERY rough gravel road from recent washout. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

We stopped here after fleeing the other Passport Park up the road. Wow what a difference a few miles makes! The owner couldn't have been nicer. The campground has long sites that you drive right into. Couldn't have been easier. We asked for a site to use our satellite and it worked very well. We learned long ago not to expect any campground to have good reception so we take care of ourselves. The bathrooms are cute and very clean. WiFi worked great in the morning. It was a bit slow in the evening, probably from too many users. We will definitely return. One word of warning: The gas station at the exit was 20 cents more expensive than in Cordele just 10 miles to the north. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.
