We really enjoyed our stay at General Coffee despite gnats (many) and rain (lots). We'd been to the park in the past, so knew about the trails (great!). GC is known for the gopher tortoises and we nearly ran over one on arrival in the campground! Our site backed up to the gopher tortoise trail. It was great for morning walks. We had the campground almost entirely to ourselves. We rented bikes and road around the back country camping area. We fished in the pond by the historic farm and we did a long hike out through the East River Swamp Trail to Yellow Jacket to the Orange River Equestrian Trail. Note - the trail out behind cabins 1-4 seems to be somewhat confused. It didn't quite follow the map. But it was a nice hike anyway - mosquitoes and gnats were annoying, but it is mid summer and we had a lot of rain. Our site in Campground #2 was pretty level - not sure any of the sites would be "bad". They are all pull throughs. Campground #1 roads are a bit rough, particularly if you have a large camper/motorhome. There are no grey water dumps as are found in some other state park campgrounds - keep this in mind as there's no sewer hookups at G.C. Moderate cell access on Verizon and ATT without using a booster. The pond in the historic park has a small farm with lots of critters. There's also feeding stations for ducks. The turtles by the bridge are used to being fed - this is why when you walk on the bridge there are suddenly turtles everywhere. LOL! Bike and Boat Rentals. Staff is very friendly and helpful. - CindySuess

Stayed only 2 nights. Cold and rainy. Definitely want to return to explore more. Campsites worked very well. Our friends had a 38 foot 5th wheel and found an easy space to set-up. Dump station at entrance. - Ed and Ann

We stayed only one night. I wish we could have stayed longer and had time to explore all the features of the park. It has a lot of historical buildings and many trails. We only had time to do the trail where the tortoises can be found. We didn't see any but it was the wrong time of day. The campground is an unusual state park in that all the campsites are pull throughs. Most are quite spacious. Also you cannot reserve a specific site. You make a reservation to stay at the park and then individual sites are first come first served. We enjoyed our stay and will try to get back again to finish seeing everything. - Judy Birchland

A barebones park to set up your RV with good power (30 & 50 amp). No showers, laundry or restrooms. This is a very quiet place to park your RV with no trains or noise. We'll come back here if we're ever in the area. - J59T

We were here while working. We couldn't find another RV park within 40 miles, that had full-hookups! This nice man made a few just for us to use while working in the area! It's nothing special, just a field to park your RV. It's actually a mobile home park. We were just glad to have a place to park our RV. It was safe and cheap! All the roads leading to it are like a washboard and sandy. But other than that, it's not far from the job site or town. Can't be picky when coming to Douglas. - travelinmomma99

We have stayed here several times, this time we were lucky enough to be there during Harvest Festival, vendors , music and the lake. The big thing was one night we had a hot air balloon "glow". The next day was lift off. They have improved the park, sewer repaired. roads repaired. We stayed here in a 40 foot MH.The pot holes in the road have been repaired, now a nice road. The sewer connections are now mostly at ground height with screw on tops instead of being left open. Grass is mowed and everything looks awesome. - walt662001

The grounds were very nice. We did have a problem with the power connection, but got it worked out. The only real problem (and is why the low cleanliness score) was that bathroom/shower facility. The men's room toilet was clogged and over flowing(when we got there, and was the same the next day when we left),the shower was nasty, the shower curtain was moldy,no soap in the dispenser,no trash can to put the paper towels in. The ladies room shower curtain was laying in the floor (now shower curtain rod to hold it up) No soap in the dispenser, and no trash can. Both restrooms were very nasty and had not been cleaned in a while. Again, the grounds outside were very neatly kept. The RV sites were very easy to get into, and large enough (our rig is 46' long and had plenty of room. - CWO-3

Great city park, hidden gem. Only RV in the park on the water. Well maintained grounds; trees have been planted. Will provide great shade in a couple of years. - FOSJ
