We stayed here Labor Day Weekend. All of the State Park and COE campgrounds on Lake Allatoona tend to get reserved early, but this one doesn't. This is a little jewel of a campground. I think the sites are better than the ones at McCaskey Creek COE campground a few miles away. Some of the spots are really better left for tents as they are hard to get into with anything bigger than a class B. Rear lounge trailers have a lot of choices for great views as the back-in sites face the lake. However, in these same sites the patio faces the road or adjacent space with limited views of the lake. The better sites in the park are 8, 11 and 12 if you have a rear lounge and don't require the patio to be facing the lake. We stayed in site 11 and angled our trailer about 45 degrees to the pad and had a good view of the lake from the patio area. Site 14 is a very nice back-in with the patio facing the lake, but is only about 16 ft wide. Sites 24, 25 and 27 are also very nice, but are also a little narrow. Site 27 is on the end of a peninsula with lots of water surrounding it. Site 54 is nice, but also only about 16 ft wide. I would avoid sites 32-37 as they are very close together and on the main road through the campground with not much to view.

The roads are narrow, but easily navigable unless there is a vehicle coming the other way as all roads are two-way. There is a nice beach as you enter the park and nearby in another section of the park is the boat launch area. Water pressure is high (120psi).

The only complaint is how the spots are left by previous campers. Our fire ring was filled with partially burned trash, and we observed many empty spots where the fire rings were used as trash dumps. Despite this, we will return here again.

The campground is closed October through February. We camped at Bartow Gatewood Park (Bartow Beach Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We have been RVers for 36 years. We find Georgia State and County parks to be among the nation's best. Bartow Gatewood Park was not a disappointment. The foliage was stunning, the campground well kept and beautiful. The roads are paved as are many of the RV sites. There are plenty of lakefront sites with beautiful views, with decks built for the picnic tables. One side of the campground has a great view of the dam. We were greeted by the nicest hosts (Dicky & Vicky), who even delivered some firewood to our campsite for us. They were seen often driving through the park and if we were walking, they always stopped and asked if everything was OK and if we were enjoying our stay. I can't remember having such a nice reception in a government-owned park! Even though it is called Bartow Beach Campground, the beach was closed years ago, but there is a natural little beach that people enjoy swimming from. If I had to guess, I would say it's about 5 miles off I-75 out SR 20, and well worth the drive! We camped at Bartow Gatewood Park (Bartow Beach Campground) in a Motorhome.
