The 25% grade into the campground is tough going in and coming out. Campground facilities are not well maintained. Crumbling parts of loop road in campground. Dirty bathrooms. Pros: good tv antenna reception. Free laundry. Close to Falls trailheads and overlooks. AT&T cell service is good in campground. T-Mobile doesn't work. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Fifth Wheel.

Must hike the falls. Go to the lodge for the breakfast buffet. Visit Dahlonega and Ellijay. If you go in September visit the orchards and pick some apples.

Check in was a 45 minute wait and poorly organized. Check out didn't happen because the gate was left unattended for considerable time periods. Our camp site was not well engineered, erosion of the approach drive and retaining walls made back in a nightmare. Charcoal grill was rusted out and useless. 30 amp service had a loose and shorting out breaker (Power went out and breaker was sizzling. Switched to 50 amp with adapter and was okay) right next to a spewing water hookup. Couldn't leave water on for more than a few minutes or we were in a lake. Dump station hydrant also had major leaks. The rest of the park is beautiful, well maintained and the falls and mountain views are epic. IF you go pick your site carefully!! We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

First time camping here and it was great. My wife and I camp state parks most often and this one is well maintained but a little dated. The convenience to the amazing park itself is well worth the price and simplicity of the campground. The waterfalls are only a 15-minute walk away and were beautiful. We also visited the lodge and enjoyed the breathtaking views from the back deck and terrace. The restaurant was very crowded but the food was good. A bit pricey but understandable for being the only game around.

NOTE: The 25% grade for a good 1/2 mile going up is a bear. Our F-250 handled it well, and we saw all sorts of motor coaches, trucks and SUV's at the top. It is doable, but if you have an older truck or a monster rig, be sure to take that into consideration.

I met 2-3 employees and a manager and they were all very courteous and helpful. The manager stated that the campground has plans for major roadwork coming soon and an upgrade to the bath house which is in desperate need of being updated, but I can say it was very clean the 2-nights we were there. Large, level sites with compacted gravel/dust surfaces. Everything on our site was in working order. We have already booked a site for this fall and the leaf season. $30 weeknights and $40 weekends. The campground was full the entire weekend. Book early. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Travel Trailer.

Lots of hiking. Stocked trout pond. We caught our limit in 20-minutes and grilled them fresh at our site. Tons of trout! The waterfalls are incredible.

The scenery was great and we plan to return as soon as possible. The gift shops were very good also. We ate at the lodge with the great view and great food. There was nothing to complain about. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Truck Camper.

WARNING: entrance to this SP campground can be extremely taxing on larger campers and motorhomes - posted 25% incline for a mile or more from the registration office. There is also a VERY tight turn at a STEEP incline within the campground...
50a and water at each of the only 24 gravel, but lengthy sites...most are built up from the side of the mountain. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Motorhome.

The falls are beautiful but the campground is horrible. It looks like no money has been put into the place in many years. The road to sites are rutted and badly washed out. Sites are overgrown with grass in the gravel areas, spigots leak water and on three of the seven days I visited, the water was off about half the time with inadequate compensation from the campground owners for the problem. Also, many sites are unlevel and hold water during rains. I will not return until the place gets a "makeover" in the campground area. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Motorhome.

It's obvious that the State of Georgia does not maintain this campground. Pick one of the ones that they do and you'll be a lot happier.

The view from the falls is amazing and there are many hiking trails in this area. Be forewarned, the hill up to the campground is a long 25% grade and not recommended for heavier campers or light duty engines. The back-in sites were almost impossible to park a 37 foot trailer. The campground is serviced by the lodge which is so far away it requires a vehicle to get to. The staff at the lodge were amazingly friendly and helpful. The bathrooms, showers and laundry area were quite dirty. Price stated doesn't include the state park pass. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Travel Trailer.

This has to be one of the prettiest state parks that I have visited. The waterfalls, hiking trails, visitors center and even the lodge were great. I would fully recommend that you visit here on a day trip or experience what this park has to offer. When you arrive at the campground you quickly realize that this is not run by the state of Georgia. It is run by a private company. They are obviously not spending money on the campground. The roads around the campground are washed and rutted badly. Many of the water valves at the campsite are leaking and will not shut off. Customer service at check-in is marginal at best. There was a mix up with our phone reservation and when I got there to check in they would not honor what they had said. They were very unresponsive and uncaring about their mistake. Its too bad. This could be one of the nicest campgrounds around if they took care of it. Also, please note that the drive up to the campground is steep. There are warning signs of a 25% grade. If you are not confident in your tow vehicle I would recommend you find another campground. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Travel Trailer.

Pro:Trails, Forest Cons: Minimally maintained, no camphost, 24 HR security not true, very unlevel sites, bathrooms sub par, electrical power at sites inconsistent 20-50amp, only 1 site 50 amp, #23; road in campground in need of major repair; If you come in with 35'+ motorhome or trailer, only 3 sites leveling doable. Private Company took over management a year ago and are doing nothing with campground; Actually had a family shooting pellet gun at bottles in middle of campground. Too bad, I have been a regular at this park, no more. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Motorhome.

I didn't stay at this park but did a drive through just to check it out. The park looks nice but I won't be camping there because of the road up. There's are signs warning of 25% grades and they aren't kidding. If you're pulling a trailer I'd suggest dropping it somewhere and driving up to the campground for a look. I did see one Class A up there but it was the camp host's and had the first site. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Motorhome.

I usually rate state parks in general an "8" but this one needed maintenance to the sites. The gravel needs to be attended as it has deep ruts on the pads...kids & my parents tripped several times. Otherwise, the state park trail system is one of the best I have ever used and the restaurant at the lodge was very good. Not excellent, but very good. Nice campground, and the scenery is nice, but it is small. The lodge restaurant is a little pricey, if you were to consider eating there. The visitor's center staff were very helpful. The park was very busy all weekend and this is the season for the AT Thur Hikers beginning their hike. Trails were very busy. The only downside to this campground on this visit was the shower drains were not draining properly and the hot water did not stay hot very long. We told the staff about the shower drain, but it wasn't fixed when we left the next day. All in all, great park though. We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Travel Trailer.

This was a very nice park we were surprised at how nice it was. All the sites are large and very nice back in's but with plenty of room to maneuver. The main activity is hiking but the hiking views were very nice. People were very friendly and everything was kept up well. It rained (actually poured) while we were there and the campsites drained impressively well. There is one area on the trip up the mountain where the campsites are that I began to wonder if my 37 foot V10 was going to make or not and several people I talked to said the same thing about the same area. Overall Rating:

The campsites are very well developed with very wide spaces and privacy supplied by retainer walls built with railroad ties. It was hard to pick out the prettiest site. The picnic area is as nice as anyone would want their own patio to be. Even though it was March and it snowed, there were some tent campers there and it surprised us that they stayed. But the park is designed in such a way you can set your tent to be away from the elements. The hotel, restaurant, and gift shop at the top of the mountain are beautiful. We loved this state park and we're from Texas! We camped at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge in a Fifth Wheel.
