A Diamond in the Rough -- VERY rough ! ! Great location with easy access to highway 85, 30 min. to downtown (no traffic) Peachtree City just 15 min. east with grocery, fuel etc. But care for the park has been lacking for Many years and there is Nothing else in the area. $35 night is Too much - $200 week is better - $500 month (includ. elec.) is best. Worked out fine for us for the month with the easy access location for south ATL - just realize it's Not a 'pretty' place ... but Could be with a major makeover and then people would be waiting in line I think !
The turn toward the campground is just next the the service station which is confusing with the access road. - SailorGolf

We called ahead and were told that no one would be in the office when we arrived so just take a site by the office. Park is poorly marked so we had trouble finding it. When we got there, there were no sites by the office that we could see. One of the residents directed us to a site which was a back in. Once we got on the site we found there was no water. The grass was long and hadn't been cut for weeks by the look of it. In the morning we went to the office to pay . It was a filthy mess with papers and stuff all over. The office person did not seem to care that we had no water and didn't offer to refund any money because of it. We would have been better off to just stay at a WalMart !! - Jan Griff

They claim in the Good Sam RV Travel Guide, to have 140 available spaces. That might be so if you have a 20' travel trailer with 30 amp power. They have no spaces with 50 amp power that are easily accessible. We have stayed here three times. During the first two times we could not get level, needed three sewer hoses to reach the connection and ruined our rock guard trying to get in the space. All spaces are small. Many have water, but no sewer or sewer but no water. There are power boxes and/or water pipes, not no guts to the power or faucets for the water. During our last visit we opted to try a 30 amp spot...couldn't get level, had to run both power and water hoses back under the coach to plugins, and had to run the generator to keep warm. This park could be a gold mine if fixed up and maintained. However, nothing changes, we've had it,and will not stay here again. $35 with no discount is about twice what this park should charge. We felt sorry for the lady in the office, she knew nothing about the RV side of the business. Thus, she was no help as we tried to find a space with both power, water and sewer. - Old GI

Pretty park, wooded setting, big grass area in the middle for exercising horses/dogs/kids. Most sites on the river, no hookups, camp wherever you find a picnic table & fire ring. Fire rings were primitive, rocks in a circle. Hardly any privacy between sites but still very pretty & woodsy. Good hiking trails. Most campers came with horses and seemed like locals. Boat launch in camp. We stayed 1 night and did not use facilities. Would stay again. - RaynaGrace
Jun 2010 - $15.00
Stayed one night. This is considered primitive camping. They do have a bath house that was clean but no water or electric hookups. We stayed for the one night for the river views of the Chattahoochee River and for the historical sites on the property. This is a beautiful property but keep in mind it is primitive. It is worth a one night stay to hike the property and learn about all the Creek Indian history. - BeDa

Yes, there are a lot of semi-permanent residents, however, the place is clean, well maintained and all the campers keep things neat. Very shady as well. Perfect spot for doing the zip-lines. And the zip lines are GREAT. However, you better be in reasonable shape to handle the activity level. The lodge, which is a short drive, is very nice. It has a 4 star restaurant with a wonderful gourmet menu. Very nice indeed ! Be aware, the address is for the lodge, not the campground. You should call ahead with an arrival time, and they will meet you and escort you to your site. Have fun ziping thru the woods ! - macandphyl

This is a beautifully situated park, with lots of potential. RV park part of the property is less well staffed and cared for than the lodges and zip line tours. Sites are quiet, well situated and shaded in the full hookups part of the park, not very level, but nice and wide. Check in is a confusing process - you have to call from the gate for help, then get less than complete instructions, but from a nice, friendly guy. Trash is distant from camp sites, and no recycling at all. We are not big on zip lines, but our friends went and were impressed. The park could be very nice with a little attention to procedures and conveniences. - mavoufl

Excellent is all I can say. We have traveled all over the US and this is a great place to stay. We got caught in the Atlanta snow storm this January and were here longer than planned. The sites are large, just not as level as they could be, that is the downside. But really no problem, just being picky. Now for the description: this is gated campground, not that it is in a unsafe location or anything, just the opposite. It is nestled in a small town called Whitesburg, GA. Not all that far off I-85 and I-20. The main attraction is the enormous zip-line/canopy tour. There were zip lines and suspension bridges all over the place. A beautiful river runs through the grounds. The lodge is great, especially during the snowstorm. We walked about a quarter to half a mile through the campground, across the bridge over the river to the lodge. There we enjoyed free coffee and tea. The views are wonderful. Highly recommend this place if you are just passing and need a place to rest for a few nights. We would have stayed the whole month, but had to get home and finish some chores. - rod767

Excellent Wifi, very good over the air TV. Sites fairly tight but well maintained with patio & picnic table. Staff very nice. - Mainiac
Oct 2018 - $36.00
This was a one night stop for us heading south to Florida. It offers easy access from I-75. The road into the park is easy to navigate. The roads in the park are narrow, sites are very close together, yet we had no issues navigating our 36 foot Motorhome with car in tow. Check in was fast and friendly with an escort to our site. Our site A7 was a pull through, hard packed gravel, level, utilities conveniently located. We would stay here again. - William T
Aug 2018 - $42.00
Personally, I wouldn’t call Atlanta South either a Resort or a Campground. It is a crowded RV Park.
1. Staff is very friendly & hospitable and quick to address concerns
2. Amazingly quiet to be so crowded & so close to the freeway
3. Sites are clean & free of litter
4. Very convenient to airport area, and not a bad drive to see a baseball game
5. Easy access to/from I-75
6. The dog-walk area is natural grass. It is clean and well-maintained. Bags & a trash receptacle are provided in the dog-walk area
1. Sites are very narrow, with only enough width for the trailer and a picnic table + walking space between. The utility hookups were within inches of our neighbors picnic table & front door of his RV!
2. Though some sites had grass fringes (and that grass was very nicely maintained), our site was 100% uneven gravel. Leveling the RV was a challenge, as I had a hard time finding a spot level enough to put the blocks!
3. An eye to maintaining the sites between guests would be beneficial. The water hookup on our site was missing the handle to turn it on; we used pliers. We had no fire ring, though we didn’t need one & not sure I’d want to start a fire so near our rig
4. The WiFi password we received was not correct/did not work
We were in Atlanta for an event, so we just wanted a place to park, cook, and sleep. Atlanta South was fine for our needs, and we would stay again if we had those same needs in the future, or for a single night passing thru. We were not actually here very many hours in a day. Most of the rigs are long-term residents, working in the area. But Atlanta South, while adequate, is not a relaxing spot to enjoy nature, or vacation destination IMHO. - Ricflo
Aug 2018 - $30.00
A very well maintained RV Park. Only drawback is distance to Newnan. It is quite a drive. Nearest store is a Dollar General at least 10 miles away. Hiking trails throughout the park. Very close to Chattahoochee River and rafting or kayaking. Rangers have programs for kids and adults. Beautiful setting. There is a mixture of pull-through and back-in sites. There are 2 campgrounds. Campground 1 is a little farther from river than Campground 2. - Papa Frank
Jan 2018 - $14.00
This campground is an excelent campground. The campsites are HUGE, plenty of room for any size RV. There are a variety of pull thru and back in sites. The sites are gravel and level. Plenty of space between each site. Some sites are shaded and others are open and sunny. There are plenty of hiking and biking trails. Unfortunately the weather was extremely cold and we did not do much outdoor activities. This campground is convinenent to Atlanta GA. We were only 1 hour from downtown Atlnata. 30 mins to Newnan GA. It is prety remote location but well worth the drive along the country roads to get to this state park. We will definately be back when we are needing to go to Atlanta. - On the Road Again with Dave and Christie
Nov 2017 - $35.00
Huge park! One of GAs newest so it still needs a bit of breaking in. Nice layout in campgrounds, we are in CG 1 site 110, it's nice very private with a wooded view and a short trail to the river and observation tower. Normal SP amenities fire pit, picnic table, lantern post. Sites are level and big, plenty of room for rig and parking for a couple of cars. We are in a forty foot site that could handle any big rig. Good hiking and paddling. Nice cg to ride a bike around wide paved roads with gravel sites. We will definitely be back to this one . Having a good time. - CoachLen613
