22 Parks near Royston, Georgia
Sep 2016 - $26.00
Nice small park with lots of hiking, golf and playgrounds. The campsites are very level and look to have been recently re-graveled. Excellent fire rings. Both the hosts and the rangers were very nice and helpful.
The hiking trails include one to a beaver pond. Most of the trails are about 8ft. wide with some hills but great for family hiking.
Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is, if you're not into Golf or Hiking there isn't much else to do here. - Buddy Ray
Mar 2016 - $26.00
Very nice Park, very clean, about 15 miles off 85, good road to it, well marked. Most sites are gravel, level, fire pit, table and post on large patio. Very clean bath house and laundry. A few paved sites, most sites are large, some pull thus. No problems with big rigs, limited air TV, most are open to dish use, good Verizon cell and data. Nicest tent areas I have ever seen at any park. They have a summing pool during the warm season. Not far to food and other things. Over all a great park, most GA parks are pretty nice. Would stay here again, very peaceful. - rmckee
Jan 2015 - $28.00
This is a beautiful park in north Georgia. There was no park host so no wood or ice available. Very quiet..there was only one other camper. Will be back when weather is warmer. - drewcher

Jul 2012 - $35.00
This is an old park. It has several permanent campers. The trees are over grown. There were trees that the leaves and limbs scraped the top and sides of our motor home. We will not stay here again. - Honeybear & Sugarbear
Apr 2010 - $26.00
Nice, small campground and quiet. I stayed there for 3 days. The owner is very friendly and nice. - garyka
Nov 2006 - $20.00
Great park for overnight. No WIFI. Road construction till next summer at entrance so watch closely for sign. Gravel entrance to pull-thrus, paved entrance for back-ins. Owner and hosts very friendly. 3 1/2 pull thrus for big rigs, (1/2 too tight of a turn for our 40ft to turn into, other 3 OK, tight turn to exit from pull-through to leave campground. Stayed for a week would stay again if pull-through available. - mserafin
Apr 2013 - $20.00
Park is nice. Large lake for fishing, boating. Park office has WiFi, fishing, camping items for sale and some basic food items. Close to major shopping areas. - ibeeneverywhere
Apr 2008 - $20.00
Very well managed park, very clean, sites are close especially around the lake, no sewer hookups and must use portable gray water tanks ofter if you have a extended stay, overall I would stay at this park again. - Leland Hiatt
Nov 2007 - $21.00
Well run campground all the way around. We had site # 27 which is right on the water, and it was just beautiful. Each site shares trash cans, which is very convenient and the sites are fairly set apart from each other. Ours had new fencing installed and really added to the look of the site. All in all a great experience and we would definitely recommend this CC and come back for the beautiful view. - dcbi
Aug 2016 - $35.00
Campground was great. As other reviewers have mentioned, roads are quite bumpy due to roots. Be aware of this and go slow and it shouldn't be a problem. We stayed at a premium waterfront site & it was well worth the $. Sites were shaded , restrooms were very clean, cable channels were plentiful , showers were hot & great pressure.. Hosts were friendly. Only reason we didn't rate it a "10" was due to the road conditions & the lake was down about 10 feet due to a recent drain. There was a large tree that had fallen on the shore & had been there a while. When the lake was up I can imagine it would be a nusiance for swimmers at that site. Other than those minor things, it was a wonderful stay & we will definitely return! - Peasworld
Jun 2016 - $32.00
Very nice park and area. Would have given a higher rating, but, the condition of the roads in the campground are terrible! Tree root heaves and no evidence of any repairs even being attempted. Water pressure was good, but, there would be rust color first thing in the morning. Plenty of grey water dumps. - Retired Medic
May 2016 - $30.00
Very nice quiet place to stay! Especially if you opt for an off-water site. You can reserve a site but not a specific one. It's first come first serve which is nice. Camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. Lot spacing was spacious with some shade. Site surfaces are gravel, featuring a fire ring and picnic table. This was our second stay and we enjoyed it. - Boondock70
Aug 2016 - $14.00
Well kept, back to nature, SC State Park. Easy access. About 1 mile off I-85 exit 1. There are over a hundred paved, wooded RV sites. Tents are permitted on rv sites too Fire rings and tables Well kept roomy sites with clean water/electric area. Room for slide outs. Spacious back-ins and several pull thrus. 3 loops. Two clean dump stations with easy access.
Easy to ride bicycles about the paved roads with a couple challanging hills if you choose. 2 dump stations. Lake fronts to boat and swim in. Good fishing too.
We parked our 30 ft RV + cargo trailer in the middle section and at night it was quieter than any place we have EVER stayed at. Yes we would stay here again. We like the fact that we can see an exact picture of the site before we chose, on the South Carolina State Parks online reservation section. - WVrvers
Jun 2016 - $25.00
This is a sweet little park, usually very quiet (except for occasional jet skis), along the shores of Lake Hartwell. Not a ton of amenities here, but a great place to relax, with views of the lake through the forest from several sites. You can reserve specific sites in advance. For tent campers, the park has dedicated tent sites, separate from the RV areas and very close to the lake. - AtlantaBrave
May 2016 - $13.00
South Carolina State Parks are top notch and the best value. Always clean, staff always friendly and I'm always a happy camper. - obxblond
Aug 2012 - $18.00
We had sites 7, 8 and 9. We loved them all. They had a nice gentle slope down to the lake. The lake was more "sandy" than in many areas on Lake Hartwell which it made it much nicer to enjoy. The sites are very large and shaded. Our boat was easily visible from the campsite. The playground close to us was only swings, but very convenient. The bath house was very clean but very far away. We had to drive to it from our sites. Location is not very close to any dining on the water. Took us over an hour to get to Swamp Guinea by water. It is much closer by land though. Overall we loved this place and will definitely go back again. - HappyCamperSC
Sep 2011 - $21.00
This is my second review of Paynes Creek. I have to drastically cut my rating because we got stuck in our campsite due to the steep driveways into and out of the campsites, spinning tires on the gravel. Thankfully our site was attached to the next site and those folks were leaving when we were, so we were able to follow them through their campsite. The only site we will be getting again, will be site #7, which has a long flat sweeping driveway in and out of the site. - SC Upstate Camper
Aug 2011 - $20.00
We enjoyed our stay at Paynes Creek! The campground hosts were very friendly. We stayed on site 30. We were originally staying on site 31 and they had no problem allowing us to switch to 30 because it was more shaded. They also were helpful and let us borrow a tool when we had a problem with our camper. The campground was what I expected from a COE campground-clean, lots of trees, and shady roomy sites. Almost every site is on the water. If you need a Walmart or restaurants there are plenty in a town about 15 minutes away. We would stay again. - going2mountains
May 2016 - $1.00
Like others have said park is on a hill, but it is really not that hard to get level if you take your time. We stayed here for two weeks over the Memorial Day weekend and found the park very nice with good staff and management. Nice pool and plenty of activities to do in the park. Verizon cellular voice and data were both excellent. roads are narrow but you can make it work and if in the area again we will enjoy coming back to this park. - M5Adventures
Feb 2016 - $3.00
All sites are on hill and none are level. We had to try 3 sites before we got close to leveling the motorhome. Wifi only in clubhouse. Narrow roads with many potholes, hard to maneuver 43 ft rv. Park is pretty. Staff is friendly and helpful. But roads and sites need maintenance. TT needs to modernize its parks with cable and upgraded wifi. Probably much nicer in summer when pool and lake are available. - westwill3
Oct 2015 - $0.00
We were concerned about the ability to get our 43' motorhome/bus into the campground and into a site. When we arrived, the staff member took us by golf cart to look at a couple of sites, and we found one that we thought we would be able to fit into. We were able to get parked reasonably easily. As mentioned in other reviews, the sites are on hills. One other motorhome owner indicated that they were previously on a site that was so sloping that they could not level.
The weather is rainy so we haven't taken advantage of the facilities.
Cost was free for 30 amp site with TT membership. - pattic777
Apr 2016 - $14.00
This is one of the better campgrounds on Lake Hartwell. The campground is laid out on fingers of land jutting out into the lake. Most sites are lake front and are down hill from the loop access road. The pull-through sites are easiest to get into and are level. The quietest loop is next to the boat ramp and away from the highway. As with most public campgrounds it is quietest on week days. The park is close to restaurants and shopping The staff was great. We will stay here again. - JC69
Nov 2015 - $13.00
We stayed here for 2 weeks and loved it. The staff was great, especially staff at the gate. The park is well maintained. A park truck drives through the campgrounds many times a day. The campground is close to the town of Hartwell that has grocery stores, restaurants and home depot. Great place for quiet stay.
Check out your site before you park and if it isn't the best, check other sites and check at the gate to see if you can use one of the others. It was busy when we were here so we didn't have a big choice.
We will stay here again. - EandM on the road
Mar 2015 - $24.00
This is my favorite campground! The sites are huge and right on the water, very private. I highly recommend it! - cascan
