We arrived for a 1 night stay during a torrential downpour so my review is limited at best. I wanted to write one to let you know the area is very lovely and is a place we will definitely return to in the future for a much longer stay. Georgia state parks only guarantee a site is available; when you arrive, you get to pick the site you like best! This is kind of a nice way to pick a site, especially when you have never been there. In Florida, you have to reserve specific sites even though you don't really know what would be best. The staff were very nice and helpful. We had to back in and hook up our trailer in the pouring rain too. Because of the deluge of rain, there was a lot of standing water around our campsite but we managed. The next morning I walked around a bit and noticed it's right by the water, there are areas to watch wildlife and there's plenty of space at each site as well as in between sites. I read there's a mini-golf course, kayak rentals, etc. Close by is the Kings Bay Navy Submarine Base and a submarine museum to visit. We will be back! Hopefully with better weather! Also, the cost includes park admission ($5 I think) but you get a small refund for a senior discount, so mention it (if they don't ask) on check-in. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great park close to I95. Nice level sites- mainly pull through. Water and electric at sites. Dump station in facility. Nice trails for short walks or bike riding. Campground offers skiff boat tours and activities- kayak rental and guided tours for additional cost. St. Mary's is quaint historical town- 10 minute drive. Really enjoyed the atmosphere- nature like setting- bird watching blind. Huge pinecones. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

The park is well maintained and has several trails ranging in length from .5 to 1.5 miles. The park is situated close to Cumberland National Park, St Simon Island and Okefenokee which makes it ideal for a base. All sites are spacious and level. If you desire privacy, select the sites on the right. Cable TV is advertised but does not work which made me downgrade the overall rating. If they are not going to fix it, it should be listed. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This beautiful Georgia state park features fairly level sites, with water and electric. We made reservations but once you get here they have you pick a site, a feature we really like since we use leveling blocks and have a satellite dish (so we can choose what works best for us). We camped on the left hand loop and were able to get satellite signal. Our Verizon hotspot signal was good. There are nice biking and hiking trails throughout the park. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a ferry that goes to Cumberland Island National Seashore in town. There is a submarine museum, historical town of St. Mary's, and plantation mill ruins outside of the state park.

We have mixed feelings on this park. Some nicely spacious and very long sites mixed in with some closer smaller sites. You select a site when you arrive, so hopefully you get one of the better ones. Some very nice dog friendly walking trails in the park. The down side is that it is very dusty and our site was next to a golf cart trail (unknown to us when we arrived) that kicked up even more dust. Also, behind our large site was a pumping station or water treatment plant that would give off some very strong black tank odors at times. Two loops in the park and if you have a big rig, side 1-38 is friendlier than the other loop, but there are several sites on that side which can handle large RVs. Useable Verizon coverage, but no sattelite reception due to tree cover. Decent enough place, but we have no desire to return. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

Large sites. The one we stayed in was long enough for our 37' 5th wheel and our tow vehicle, plus another 30' or so. We were able to back in far enough that the 5th wheel was partially surrounded by trees, yet still felt very open. Grass sites that were level enough that we only had to use one layer of blocks on one side. The park staff was very friendly and helpful. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

St Marys is a nice, interesting little town. The submarine museum was small, but full of a lot of memorabilia, interesting information and videos. Jekyll Island, north about 25 miles, was a great place to visit. Fascinating history and restored buildings. We will go back there. Enjoyed a guided kayak tour. Boats and kayaks and bicycles available for rental. Several trails for bicycles. Really enjoyed biking there.

This state park and campground is very nice. The roads into the park are easy to navigate, the only con here is that there are quite a few speed bumps. The park has lots of trails and is located on the Crooked River. It borders Florida. The personnel at the office / store were very helpful and nice. Whether or not you make a reservation, you get to pick out your own site which we really prefer. All the sites are quite large. Some are on the river. We stayed here twice on our way to and from Florida and the second time we camped nearer the river and had some bugs (noseeums). The bathhouse has washing machines and dryers, which is unusual for state so we really appreciated that. Restrooms were clean. Each time we stayed we saw armadillos as well as the huge pinecones that someone else remarked on. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

Nearby St. Marys is a nice, seaside town. Its small but worth visiting. Lots of good restaurants and cute shops. On the main road by the campground there is a Publix grocery store, Walmart, plenty of auto stores, etc.

Reservations are non-specific, so get there as early in the day as possible to get a shot at the best sites. When you arrive, they will tell you that any sites that don't have red tags on them are available. What they don't tell you is some people don't remove their tags when they leave. So, check the exit date on the tags also, as those sites are also available. The campground is flat and level, great for bicycles. Most sites are large, except those close to the water. Those are cramped together. There is a very noticeable "sulfer" taste to the city water in the campground and throughout the town of St. Mary's. There is a good mix of long and short hiking trails in the park. Verizon coverage = 3/5, OTA TV=3 major networks, satellite reception is easy with lots of spaces in the trees. The Park has many activities ongoing year round such as kayak tours, guided nature hikes, etc., although they are a bit on the pricey side for what they are. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Sub museum in St. Mary's is small, but worth the small entrance fee. Most of their artifacts are from WWII, with a few from nuclear subs after WWII. If you're looking for good seafood, I HIGHLY recommend "St. Mary's Seafood and More" restaurant on the main road to town. Excellent food and prices. They have special lunch prices until 4PM.

Great park, only a few miles off I95, just past the Navel Sub Base. Park is large, very well kept, all paved roads, gravel, level, large sites. All sites have water and electric, 2 well placed bath houses with laundy. I view this park as big rig friendly, based on the assumption you know how to handle what your driving, we have a 42' fifth wheel and had no issues. Verizon signial was good, over air TV was good, dish could be tricky in some areas. They have cable but it doesn't always work well. Lots of trails and great walking and biking. We would stay again. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice state park with boat ramp on the Crooked River. Mostly empty campground in early August with good paved roads and some pull-thrus.

Park includes marked kayak trails on Crooked River with mini golf and a playground for kids. Our site had great views of the river at sunset. Sites are treed, but we managed to get satellite reception which was good as the normal cable was knocked out by an earlier storm. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed this beautiful park and campground, and hope to return. At first we expect to be assigned a spot, so found the whole "select your own" a bit daunting. But, shortly we found a very nice site, in fact I think they are all pretty nice. The bathrooms were very nice. We were surprised to see a State Park with Cable TV, the disappointed that the system was not working. We enjoyed the great birding and the trails. We were disappointed that the Nature Center was closed during our two day visit, and that no one on the staff could help us with tree identification. We found the electric and water to work quite well for us. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is truly a disappointment for a Georgia state park, most are just outstanding. There is a minimum 2 night stay at this park. The sites are all huge and will fit the biggest rigs. It's quiet and clean. This is a typical state park where you can only reserve a campsite TYPE, not any particular site. That's a first come first serve. The bad part is that the water pressure was low and the electric was weak, at times dangerously low. The infrastructure needs work. Use caution when hooking up and using electric, it could damage your electrical system. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

They have a few 50 amp sites, but are 1st come-1st served, so we had to take a 30 amp. We managed, but not ideal. No sewer hookup, which we prefer, but again, is manageable. Has a dump station. Did have cable, which was nice. No Wi-Fi. Lots of space between sites, and plenty of parking for toad and visitors. Very nice ambiance with the woods and the river. Tons of space to ride bikes and walk the dog. All-in-all, with the above-mentioned shortcomings, it was a very nice, clean state park. We stayed here for a family reunion. The rest of the family stayed in cabins, which were very nice. We would stay here again. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

Another great Georgia State Park. It is a nonspecific reservation so you can drive around until you find a site that suits you. I was surprised that 75% of the sites had cable. We found a nice, large pull-through with lots of privacy and enjoyed our stay here very much. My only complaint was no Wi-Fi . We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
