The property is beautiful, with century old trees that offer a lot of character. Beautiful horses, and playful goats will keep you entertained. Our pets loved the space and the many sights to sniff out. The sun sets over most of the area that you want to explore, so I recommend that you take your walks in the morning because the setting sun is brutal. We found some trails that our lab loved. Off the beaten path, behind the waterspray pond. Our site was acceptable, but not what we expected, from such a large property. Sites are all back-in, facing toward empty field, in a big square, with exception of a couple sites, which overlook the pond, behind the square group. We backed into a row of trees, but we could not get back as far as we could, due to overhanging vines, that could have been cleared up, to give that site a little more back-up room. But overall, the site has plenty of space between others, and easy to get in and out of. Lots of sights to see in downtown Savannah. Very pretty town with lots of history. I would highly recommend this park for the long morning walks and beauty. Request one of the sites overlooking the pond and your stay will be perfect. We left Savannah a couple of days before Hurricane Michael hit land in the Panhandle, so hoping it does not damage any of this beautiful park in Savannah. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

We stayed 7 nights at Red Gate. This is a really good campground, great WiFi and friendly courteous folks. One of our favorites. There are horses, goats, cats, and we enjoyed the beautiful grounds. It is convenient to everything with a beautiful office and lots of pamphlets. Our site was back in towards the back of campground and in the evening we were shielded from the sun with the trees to our rear. A fantastic place to walk and enjoy nature. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We intended to do some things on our own but the city of Savannah has made that difficult. There are lots of tours in shuttles and lots of parking meters. Every inch of Savannah is covered with parking meters or kiosks which we had never seen until going there. Parts of it are beautiful and historical but, if you are looking for southern hospitality in Savannah, it doesn't exist. Although we love the campground, we would never go back to Savannah. It has been ruined and we will choose to go elsewhere.

Nice flat terrain for all sites. Limited pull through sites but we're easy to navigate. Not too far off I-95 or I-17. Make your reservation a quick as you can. It is not a huge park and fills up easily. As you first pull onto the property, you will see the office in a grove of trees. DO NOT attempt to drive up to the office. The drive forks and you should KEEP LEFT towards the open campsites. Stop anywhere and walk over to the office. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Very nice, pretty, small and quiet campground. Hook ups were well maintained. Easy to get to, right off the highway but can't hear the highway noise while in your camper. Was about 5 miles south of Savannah, Georgia. Campground did offer tour packages where a trolley comes to get you but since they pick you up at 9 am and bring you back at 4 pm, we didn't take advantage of this since we had dogs in the camper. Husband enjoyed fishing in one of the 4 ponds. They have horses and offer trail riding here as well. Pool was really nice, really clean and there was a lot to see around the campground like the Mackey house, located in the back of the campground. We'd stay here again without any question. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We loved this unique campground. Very welcoming from the moment we arrived. We were given useful advice on a number of sites in the area included the hop on hop off trolley tour of Savannah, which picks you up at the RV park. The family bought the 440 acres in 1931 and it remains in the same family today as an event center, farm with horses, goats and chickens and campground. They encourage you to explore the property, to fish in the numerous ponds, walk the trail and converse with the animals in this very relaxing, peaceful setting on the outskirts of Savannah. Many of the sites are scattered about the property so you are not on top of each other. The campground slowly came about because the family gathered for reunions and as they arrived with RV's sites were developed. Our view included a large pond, horse paddock, and The Belle Tower venue site off in the distance. Swimming pool on site as well as horse back riding. Free WiFi included. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Easy access to Savannah with a $12 Uber ride. This would be a wonderful place for family gatherings, rallies or any number of events. Truly a unique, well kept, hidden gem close to the historic city of Savannah. Enjoyed our stay and look forward to our return.

This was our second trip to Red Gate. To me prices are a little high but the closest to historic downtown Savannah. Well spaced spots, all grass. Easy in and easy out. Used to be an old dairy farm back in the day. Full of horses, goats, chickens all fenced in for your viewing...Very cool! We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

I'm not sure about the nightly rate. We love this campground and would definitely stay there again. It's very easy to get into Savannah from there but the campground is so nice and relaxing, it would also be easy just to hang out there. It's a campground, an events venue, a small farm...and we love it. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

This place is wonderful! It's clean, well maintained, has great amenities and the staff are so nice and helpful. It would be nice if there were trees in between sites, but where we were still felt very private. We had an end spot, #17, which had a lot of space and we backed up to trees so we had some nice shade. There are animals, an amazing playground, a pool, beautiful ponds, nice porch type swings and it's just a short drive into Savannah, which is beautiful. The Savannah Trolley will pick you up at the park. You can buy discounted tickets at the office. They have a weight room, a kitchen, laundry facilities, a nice living room with tv and more. Everything was nice, clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

This is kind of a funky little RV park. It's an event venue, small farm, and RV Park. My review is based on the particular site we had (C1). Site C1 is right beside a screened porch used for parties. It overlooked two ponds and the view was excellent (sadly the weather was horrible, so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoors as much as we would have liked). There's a small fire pit with a swing bench located on the site. The site area was huge and very level... easy access in and out. Hookups (water & electric) were easy to access. There is a farm located onsite, so you can spend time visiting with horses, goats, chickens and bunnies... it really was super cute. The whole park is clean and there is a very nice play area for kids and a large pool for the warmer days. The staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. There are a few negatives as well, though. The park is great and the staff is very nice, but there are very few private sites with water & electric hookups (no sewer). If I recall correctly, site C1, C2, and C3 are the only ones that are set off near the ponds that offer shade and a great view. Most of the sites with hookups are out in the open and offer no shade at at. Because there are no trees to buffer noise, you can hear everyone's conversations. Also, there are non-stop trains that come through at all hours of the day (the track is on the other side of the pond). I have a train track near my house, so it didn't bother us... but they are pretty loud if you aren't use to it. The main thing that would be a negative is that if you book one of the sites near one of their event buildings, and they book an event for the same time, we were told that they will move you to whatever open spot they have available... that may even be a dry site (no hookups at all). Since we do not dry camp, that would be a huge issue for us, so keep that in mind when booking and call a week in advance to make sure that nothing has changed with your reservation. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.
