A spectacularly beautiful State Park located within easy driving distance of Savannah (20 minutes). All of the sites were extra large and level with most being well shaded. Most also included separate parking for your tow vehicle or boat. Electric, sewer, and water were well placed and easy to access. Dump station was convenient and available for those sites without sewer. Very good OTA television reception as well as Verizon and Sprint service. We would stay at this park anytime we were in the area. It is a quiet break from the downtown area. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Fort Pulaski is closed for at least one to two years due to severe damage from Hurricane Irma. Downtown Savannah was beautiful and well worth visiting. Best way to see downtown is to walk. We had a wonderful dinner at Vic's On the River where you can see a pencil map which was drawn on the wall by Union forces detailing the March to the Sea. The cemetery in downtown Savannah had many historic graves from the Revolutionary War. Bonaventure Cemetery was beautiful but much more recent.

We have found our new home when visiting Savannah GA. This state park is onlyh 15 minutes from the historic district of Savannah GA. The camsites are all pull thru with 30 and 50 amp service. Yes all the sites are dirt, each site does have a pad that the picnictable sits along with enough room to pitch a tent on it. The sites are long enough that you do not have to unhitch, but we needed our truck to go to town so we did unhitch. There are 2 water spicits for each camp site. Some of the sites do have sewer hook ups, but we chose the sites that did not have sewer hoook up and saved some $. There is a dump station on the way out. The showers and restrooms were clean and well maintained. They even had a washer and dryer available if you needed to do some laundry. They are in the process of constructing a new restroom facility at station No 2. The shower had HOT water with GREAT water pressure. They also have cable hookup in the electric box. We will definately stay here again! We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is our second stay at a GA state park this month (from SC), so we purchased the "Family Membership" for $80.00. That will pay for itself in one weekend visit, not to mention the additional discounts that come with it. This was a last minute trip. We were just going to stay the weekend (I work Monday), but hubby is off through Tuesday, so we purchased an additional night with our discount. The park is BEAUTIFUL! Our spot, Site #74 in campground #3, is spacious with a good amount of shade. We have PLENTY of space for our pop-up, 4-door jeep, and my car towing 2 kayaks. We arrived after 8pm last night, so I decided to wait until today to take a shower. Woke up to a note on the camper door that a site had a broken water pipe, so all water will be shut off until 4pm. Guess I'll be driving home grungy. Definitely no fault of the park, just life. Good thing I travel with tons of wipes! The office/gift shop closes at 8pm. When we arrived shortly after 8pm last night, the Ranger that was driving by stopped to see if I needed any help and pointed me in the right direction for after-hours instructions (didn't get her name). Very nice and helpful. When we went to register at the office this morning, the staff on duty at the desk were AWESOME! Very knowledgeable about their services, very helpful, and SUPER nice! They also confirmed that all GA state parks are first-come, first-serve (or not site-specific reservations). I don't particularly care for that, but it works to your advantage if someone leaves a day early. Also, the narrow roads are 2-way roads throughout. Haven't had a problem yet, but it could be for those with bigger rigs than ours. So far, it seems everyone sticks to driving as if they ARE one way, which is probably why we haven't had an issue. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Vast campground in a maritime oak and pine forest surrounded by coastal marshes and an upscale neighborhood. More wooded to the back of the campground, more open in the front courtesy of Hurricane Matthew. All sites were pullthrough. All unpaved, and many sites were not truly level. Each site had a rectangular concrete curb filled with fine packed gravel for tents and the picnic table. Tons of space between most sites. Dual faucet water and full service electric worked fine. CATV hookup active in power box. Dump station had many puddles, you had to wade around. Yukky. Internal roadways were two way for traffic but only one lane wide. Roots have made for many uneven natural speed bumps. Great trail system in park. Cockroaches were way too common. DTV had a full complement of all networks. Sprint phone was three bars and LTE data continually. Downtown Savannah is about 15 minutes away via the Truman Expressway. Lots of bridge construction near the mall between the park and I-95; narrow lanes and delays. We would camp here again. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Purchase tickets for an on/off trolley. Worth every penny. Parking and traffic ridiculous in downtown Savannah. Too many cars. Downtown is one square mile in area. Great tourist area, a bit pricey, to be expected. Grocery store food prices seemed above average in this area.

One of the best State parks in North America! Lots of space between pads. Get the pull throughs with sewer if you can, they are HUGE! Nicely paved roads, each site is very clean. WE had no problem getting our 41' 5th wheel in and out. Bathrooms are a little dated, only reason I didn't give it a ten. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of those campgrounds that you just say "wow" as you drive into it. Live oaks line the road, giving it that special sense that this is going to be a special stop. Very shady sites that are very level and roomy. You can see all of your neighbors but you still have the sense of your own space. Check out the nature trails and the interpretive center. Very friendly and professional staff. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice State park and perfect for exploring Savannah and Tybee Island. Sites are very large and spacious. The pull thru sites with full hook up site we stayed at was at least 70' long and more than amply wide for our slide outs. Sites are well spaced, not jammed together giving a feeling of some privacy. We would stay here again if in the Savannah area. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The $27 average rate listed above is much lower than my charges in late May, 2017, so I'm listing RV camping charges. With a senior discount I paid $34.50/night for a two night's stay. RV camping costs $40/night. A 20% senior discount is available for people 62 and older. No military discounts are available. There is also a Parkpass fee, which costs $5.00/stay, so with no discounts one night would cost $45 and two nights $85. The parkpass is attached to your rear view mirror and works for other parks within the dates listed on the pass. I consider the Parkpass to be a car pass. Other discounts are available: There is a Georgia State Parks RV Club brochure available free in park offices or gift shops, which allows an occasional free night's camping. Ask for a sticker for each day before leaving, and put them on the Stay Sticker page in the Passport. When 10 stickers are applied, you are eligible for a free night. 18 Georgia state parks are listed in the brochure, not including Skidaway Island, but I got a sticker for each night's stay and had the impression I would be eligible for a free night if I had 10 stickers. A $50 Georgia annual Parkpass can be purchased, with 50% senior and 25% military discounts available. If you intend to stay over a weekend, be sure to check the park's reservation link (uses ReserveAmerica) for availability ahead of time. I arrived late Sunday afternoon, and the following Thursday through Sunday was booked. As others have said, this campground is an excellent place to stay, and prices are reasonable for this area. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great place to stay in the Savannah area. The ride into town is very easy and convenient. Although it's on an island, you cannot get to the beach here. You have to drive to Tybee Island to get to the beach. Most of the island is a private gated community and there is nothing to do there. There is a small shopping center on the island for supplies if needed. The park does have some nice nature trails and an interpretive center. Although you can reserve a space, you cannot reserve a specific site. You get to choose from the open ones available when you arrive. 17 of the 70 spots have sewer available and are in Area #2. All of the sites with sewer have 50 amp service. 33 additional sites have 50 amp service and are located in Area #1 and #3. None of the sites in Area #4 have 50 amp service. The sites in Area #4 are also best for smaller rigs. If you're over 36 ft, you might want to avoid Area #4 if possible. Water pressure was low, but acceptable at 40 psi. Cable is available, but did not have local channels. Antenna service was excellent though for the local channels. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is one seriously beautiful Georgia state park! Besides being very convenient to the amazing old city of Savannah, this park is a destination in itself. Full hookupsites 26-41 in area 2 are all big rig friendly, but avoid 42-51 as they are not level or on the small side. If you don't need sewer, the sites in area 1 are large to huge with more privacy and most are big rig friendly. Very dog friendly park with bags/waste stations throughout the park and about 7 miles of gorgeous walking trails that allow dogs. We did have sattelite reception on our site (36), but I suspect that's unusual due to tree coverage. Verizon was decent. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This is our second visit to skidaway State park and as per our previous year ago it is just a beautiful location. Quiet peaceful spacious sites. Our site was more than adequate for a 20 foot trailer and there was also an area at each site where attend could be placed comfortably and large picnic tables are included. Apparently there are some sites with full hook ups but we have never been able to reserve those. The restroom near our site was quite outdated but that was clean. They do have laundry facilities here but we did not take advantage of those on this trip. It was nice to see that they rented bicycles at the park office. we had brought ours and did not need to do a rental. There are some hiking trails and we tried out a portion of one. You are close to Savannah about a 20 minute drive with also a Kroger grocery store just down the street. I did forget to mention they do not have Wi-Fi at the sites but you can get Wi-Fi if you go up near the park office. There is cable available at each site. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We loved this park! Gorgeous natural setting. Lots of spacing between sites. Bathrooms in our area (camp ground3) newer than the others in 1 & 2, but all very clean & totally adequate. Convenient drive to town (15 mins) and there is a Kroger grocery store just before entry to skidaway island and a publix which only took me 20 mins to walk to from the park itself. Best feature for us was finally having recycling facilities available. Sadly lacking most places. There are a Few trails in park (6 miles worth in total) which make lovely spots for evening walks. Highly recommend this park We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground with long pull-through sites. The sites have a large amount of room on both sides for family activities. This park is only 15 miles from the center of Savannah, GA with some of the most beautiful city parks anywhere in this great country. The water pressure was a little low but all the other hookups were fine. The price is a little high but the proximity to Savannah and Tybee Island make up for the cost.
