Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 3 nights from April 17 to April 20, 2018. The weather was awesome with clear skies and a persistent NW wind that kept things wonderful. The views from our site included the entire lake and not much else - it was perfect. The park is small and some of the turns are a bit tight but we made it around without issue (Outback 328rl). There are lots of hiking trails and kayaks are available for rental. The entire park is large and has an excellent area to hold something like a church youth mission trip in an area that has multiple cabins, a cook house, and even a place for church services. There are two bathrooms in the camping area proper - one older and one newer. The newer one is very nice. The older one is older but it has hot water, it is clean and the toilets work!! Hey - you are camping - who cares if the bathroom is older. There is an excellent dog park near the ranger station that has areas for both large and small dogs with plenty of fresh water and toys provided. We did a fair amount of geo-caching on some of the trails but someone before us had done an impressive job of really hiding the caches well. be prepared to really look and bring a poking stick!! We will come back. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The closest shopping area is a Super WalMart about 10 miles away. It is an easy trip to that store with virtually no traffic. The store was clean and the people were polite.

Overall Rating:

Very nice park, yet we chose a bad spot in opinion. Narrow back in spot, no view, treed so no satellite. If I was to stay again it would be on the lake, everything is open and the view is great! Other than that is a good park. Over the air TV is marginal, no wifi. Very clean and neat.. Booked for three days but stayed for one day only...Reason just didn't like my site. Was full so no moving.... We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park located on a lake admits tall Georgia pine trees about 10 miles for Waycross, Georgia. The check in experience was pleasant and staff members very helpful. Interior roads are paved and can be a little tight to navigate is places. The sites are very big gravel pads with nice picnic tables and fire rings. No close neighbors here, there is lots of room between sites. No Wi-Fi, cable or sewage hookup. Off air TV stations were limited to shopping channels and Georgia public TV. Verizon cell service was good with 3 /5 bars. There is also a very good golf course in the park located about 2.5 miles from the campground. The water had an odd taste with strong chlorine smell even after filtering with our charcoal filter. We used bottle water for cooking and coffee. Bath houses were OK, a little dated but OK. The closest store is in Waycross about 10 miles away so bring what you need. Also, there is no pool or swimming in the lake. Overall this is a clean well maintained park with a very good environment for campers and we can recommend a visit. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and had a wonderful time. Site was very spacious with a wonderful view of the lake. OTA tv channels were sparse and Verizon service was fair. 30 amp service and water hookups at site. Told at front office dump wasn't working, but saw multiple people using it? We would definitely stay here again given an opportunity. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Best camping site to date! Faculty was extremely professional and polite. Had several events for kids. Very spacious sites with clean bathrooms and showers. The campground was quiet and everything was easily accessible. Campsite hosts were very helpful. We went geocaching, kayaking, and hiking. Highly recommend. We camped at Laura S. Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park but we got bored quickly. We have been having family reunions here occasionally over the past 30 years. Sadly, the pool was closed down a while back with no plan to re-open it. Fishing and boating is normally allowed on the lake but they closed the lake to all activities due to some cabin construction they have going on. For the life of me I could not figure out what one thing had to do with another and I was very frustrated that we were not notified of that when we booked. So we had beautiful lake front lot but zero activities. We did go across the highway one day and went to Okefenokee park. The city is not too far but we don't go camping to do "city" things. Bathrooms were older but clean. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We always have ant problems at this park so we just make sure to pack what and spray. We figured out if we spray our tires and jack stands ants don't come in :-)

At this time of year the entry kiosk is closed, so we parked in directed area and proceeded into visitor center which is really a gift shop and registration counter. We were told there were many 30amp/water sites available. We paid for two nights and then unhooked tow car and went to campground which is big rig accessible, paved roads and all sites are mostly level, open, very spacious, clean, with few pine trees for shade. Sites all have 30 amp and water with a very accessible dump station. The only downside was the office staff were confused on what is privately operated and federally operated at the Okefenokee Swamp. We finally clarified that Waycross entrance is non profit private, Folkston is Federal and Fargo on west side is state. Overall, we found this is a very quiet park with spacious sites, good utilities and 7 antenna television stations. No networks, however. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Waycross is close for groceries. Okefenokee Park that is close is private with train and boat rides. Folkston about half hour south is headquarters for Fish and Game of Okefenokee with visitor's center, film, boat ride, hikes, homestead and 3/4 mile boardwalk into Okefenokee Swamp.

Very clean and spacious sites. Restrooms and showers very clean. No cable or Wi-Fi but with the lake who needs it. No sewer but had a dump station. Only drawback was not enough pull thru sites. Would recommend this campground for peace and relaxing time. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Motorhome.

My only complaint with this park was the lack of any net work TV signal. A basic cable connection would make this park a 10 or better. We stayed there 2 nights on our way from NC back to FL. The park was very well maintained, and there was a lot of space between the sites. All the utilities were good. I did not see how close one of those Georgia Pines was to the edge of the site until I had unhooked and realized I could not put my awning out. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Quiet and clean. Some sites more level than others but most are acceptable. Good water with good pressure. Good voltage. Not busy when we stayed in January. Would stay again. Great place to get away. Nature trails give a feel for nearby Okeefanokee. Cost reflects Friends of GA Parks discount. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

A very nice small, quiet park. We had a water front site. Level sites with a lot of distance between them. We went to the Okefenokee Swamp Park for the day and it was great. The park is a little confusing to find as you can get to it off 177 from the East or West end. We will be back. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Motorhome.

Senior rate of $26 less 20%, $20.80 tax included. Nice SP and it was our second visit. Verizon cell and broadband were very good, TV via batwingman was poor. 6 stations, very good reception, but 3 Ion's and 3 other PBS type, no networks (abc, cbs, nbc or fox). So we had no news or weather. The golf course is very nice and the discount if staying in the CG is nice. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Motorhome.

This was our last stop for Spring Break 2012! And I must say we saved the best for last. We loved it here. The sites were very roomy. They have two bath houses, One is new and very nice and the older one was just fine. In fact that is the one we used because it was right by us. We enjoyed riding our bikes here. There is a lot to see and do close by. We wished this park was closer to home so we could camp here again. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The price of the state parks are the biggest downfall. I enjoyed the nature trail. The new bathhouse is nice but the showers are poorly designed and the entire floor space gets wet, so its a hassle to get dressed. Sad since its a new facility. Campground is nice. Lake is pretty and area is quiet with lots of trees on sites not by the lake. We camped at Laura S. Walker State Park in a Motorhome.
