Stayed two nights. Great state park campground. Very peaceful and wooded. Elect. was 30 amp only and no sewer, but the beauty and peacefulness outweighed those inconveniences. People were very nice, great experience here. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We had a wonderful stay at Fort Yargo. Our space was pull through, extremely large, excellent power and water. The check-in staff could have been a bit friendlier, we arrived about 45 min prior to check in and we where told to return as all sites where still full, I am ok when being asked to return - I expected that may happen - but they could have been nicer about it. Keep in mind it was well over an hour since the published check out times, so it unlikely all the spots where still taken. All subsequent contacts with the staff where excellent. We loved our stay and will absolutely be back! I wish they had sewer hookup at the sites, the dumpsite was excellent and very clean. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was our very first RV trip ever. We had a very good experience. The host couple were friendly and helped us with locating a suitable site and getting set up. The park has a beautiful hiking trail that loops around the main lake. The bathroom and shower facility were clean. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a great park and campground. Only reason I didn't rate a 10 is you cannot make site specific reservations. Luckily I am during off-season and arrived mid-week so I was able to get one of the 50 amp pull-through sites I desired. My site is huge and would have room to park 10 cars in addition to my 41 ft MH. Site is pretty level. I have view of the lake and the hiking/biking trail that goes around the lake is steps away. Plenty of stores and restaurants nearby. If looking to go into Atlanta to sightsee, it's anywhere from an hour to 1.5 hours+ depending on time of day. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived on Christmas Day and there was no staff on site. This park was sites assigned on arrival, and after cruising around a bit, we found one open site ( guess it was ours ). Nice campground, paved interior roads and sites. Some nice pull-thru for big-rigs. Easy to get to and water was on even with below zero temps at night. Out of the hustle and bustle of Atlanta, but not as busy as Stone Mountain and MUCH more quiet. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Travel Trailer.

There are a few 50amp spots in both campgrounds. Campground 1 has the lakeside sites, but are smaller and closer together. Campground 2 has larger sites and more privacy. Area was very clean and quiet. Great hiking. Thought we would kayak on the lake, but unfortunately all the activities were closed for winter! Bummer. Still a great spot to get away! Visited for a long weekend. Best showers/restrooms bar none. Sites were clean but dated. No sewer, very few site grey water dumps. Friendly staff. More camp hosts than one can shake a stick at. I've never seen a camp with a street light before. Lake had some lime green slime/moss looking stuff floating around. Not sure what that is all about. Post sewage spill 2014 still skeptical of eating caught fishes. Camp/recreation areas seemed to be a very odd layout. Everything recreational seemed to be on the opposite side of the park. Would visit again. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Having only a few 50 amp sites is ridiculous for the number of RVers that have motor homes or RVs that require 50 amp service. To make matters worse, the park allowed a pop up to use Site 35 which is 50 amp. Only large rigs should be allowed in that site which has 50 amp. Fort Yargo needs to rethink their method of assigning sites or change the 50 amp sites to be only available for RVs; no pop ups.

We have been to Fort Yargo on 6 trips of at least a week as we have family that live in the area. With the acreage of this park, camping sites should be large and more plentiful.

Finally, having most of Campground 1 closed because the building of the new bathhouse was deleted is a travesty. Some state executive needs to be fired for delaying this project until a very busy time of the year. Loss of income for 18 closed sites is Huge. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

A nice state park CG. 30amp in most sites with only a handful of 50amp in both loops. Sites range from 20-25 feet to well over 60 feet. Due to moronic state practice the CG is "first come first served" so if you need a larger site due to rig size you better get here mid-week to insure finding an adequately sized site. Great hiking trail around the lake of almost 7 miles. I thought I was in decent hiking shape and this one kicked my, well, you know. No full hook-ups but good water/electric service. Most GA State parks have convenient gray water char pits for easy disposal of gray water.
The park is just out of downtown Winder, GA. Winder is trying to revitalize the old downtown area and it has some very decent restaurants. The Bar-b-que place is very good.
I think the daily rate is too high for what the CG offers and having to show up a day or two early to get a decent site really stinks. GA State parks, so close to great but yet so far versus the COE CG's down the road. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This quiet park outside Atlanta offers a peaceful lakeside camping experience. Free Wi-Fi available at ranger station at park entry; nothing at campground but we were able to use our hotspot at our campsite. Lot's of wildlife, birds, squirrels, deer and even a few feral cats who call the park home. Services require driving out of park a few miles into Winder. Overall Rating:

Great campground overall. Extremely well maintained GA State Park with lots of activities going on. Manicured sties. Easy online reservation, quick check-in, staff makes you feel welcome. Quiet forest setting, yet near amenities in Winder, and surrounding area. Convenient to Atlanta if you avoid rush hour. Site selection is first come first serve. Great lake views if you snag one. It is a state park with tent camping so expect campfire smoke if the weather is cool. No complaints - sewer hookup would have been nice but the tradeoffs can make it worth it. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Travel Trailer.

A really nice park on the lake. Lots, some without water, are shaded. Restrooms/showers can be a hike if you don't get a close lot. Very few lots would take the big rigs but all are nicely leveled. Kids play and swim areas are not within walking distance of the camping area, necessitating a drive around to the other side of the lake. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Clean, well managed Georgia State Park. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon in October a day late from our reservation. There were no issues even though the campground was at capacity. The Camp Host (Super Nice Fellow) took us right to our site and made sure we were all set. He told us his name and made us feel very welcome. Our site was shaded, super flat, clean with a nice long driveway and pad. They have sections 1 and 2 for RV's, we were in Camping Area #2. The 8x8 wood timber borders they use were extremely flat to the ground, allowing our patio mat to lay flat. Our dog loves the small aggregate rock the State uses on the sites, it's easy to walk on. The camp was occupied with well behaved campers. The nights are quiet and very dark. We went on the walking trails the next day. Those are well managed, too. We are planning on staying here again. Bravo! State of Georgia for a real gem just 45 minutes north of Atlanta. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Very nice park just a short drive from our home. But worth it to pack up and go; it's like you're in a different atmosphere when you camp in this state park. Sites are level, clean, and well maintained. They just built 2 new washrooms and also have laundry facilities. It is actually 2 separate campgrounds with a walking trail that connects the two. Campground 1 has the most lakefront sites with awesome views of the lake. The only reason I would not rate it higher is that like the majority of GA state parks there is no hookups for sewer. This can be aggravating as you may need to bring along a portable tank to drain your grey water and then take it to the dump station. Not a problem for those who use the campground showers, but for me personally I bought a camper so I could use it, including my own shower when I need to. I'd like to see ALL Georgia state parks do what Don carter (the newest state park) has done. They installed an in ground bucket with drain holes in it, on a buried bed of rocks, on each site with charcoal in it and allow you to drain your grey water from your rv into this. No need for expensive sewer drains and plumbing, just do this. Cheap, easy and effective way to handle grey water! We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Motorhome.
