We stayed here while visiting craters of the moon national park. Staff was fantastic both when I called and when we checked in. Laundry facilities were clean and reasonably priced at $1.75 per load. It was nice and quiet as well. The only con was that there was a pasture with cows (which we enjoy) except it causes flies. Every time I opened my door I would get at least 5 flies. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

It's Arco, Idaho, folks. Pretty isolated and dusty. Having said that, we really liked this KOA and it's charming new owners. We spent two nights here to see the Craters of the Moon National Monument. We were assigned a nice long, wide, shaded, gravel pull-through with well-placed and functioning WSE and cable. There was a lovely pool and an ice-cream social each night followed by a wine-tasting (which we didn't attend, but which others were happy with). We didn't use the WiFi as our Verizon reception was good. We had a good time here and would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We spent a few days here for some R&R. Love the quiet country location (far enough from the major roads that you almost can't even hear them). Sites are spaced a little wider than at many private campgrounds, and have grass between them, a picnic table & fire-ring. Many have good-sized shade trees. Gravel parking pads are mostly level & of varying lengths - something for almost every size rig. New owners are very friendly and are working hard to make some improvements to the place (aiming toward staying open year-round, which is a change from the old management.) Grounds are kept up. The bathrooms are older but clean - they could use a few more hooks or stools in the showers to hold stuff, though. Great base camp for Craters of the Moon Nat'l Monument and for visiting other sites in the area. Enjoyed the ice cream social in the evening, and loved the waffles! The pizza they deliver as part of their "Paper Plate Kafe" menu is really good! We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

A few blocks away from Pickle's Place (local casual restaurant) - great shakes (maple - yum!) Tiny town but has grocery & hardware store, auto repair shop, other useful places. The campground's free waffles in the morning are excellent, and with the "Kafe" short order food & ice cream social (seasonal), you almost don't need to bring food!

Overall Rating:

This is a better than average KOA Journey-class park. It is in a rural setting in a small town. The roads are gravel, the sites are gravel. Spacing between sites is slightly better than typical. There are some trees but we had no trouble getting DirecTV. The wifi was running at 2-3 Mbps download speed when I checked it. What makes this park so different is that the owners try very hard to provide "extras" that aren't commonly found at parks of this class. Every evening hand dipped ice cream is available on the back patio at $1/scoop. All proceeds go to a charity. Even more unusually, a rather full food menu is available on a special order basis. We had the fried chicken dinner; it was quite good and the price was very reasonable. The owners and work campers were friendly and helpful. One tip--if entering the town from the west DO NOT follow the KOA signs located at the Sinclair gas station. That will take you down a rough, unpaved road for half a mile. You are better following the directions on the park's website and in the KOA directory--proceed into the town and turn right at Pickles Restaurant. That keeps you on paved roads all the way. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Typical KOA gravel/dirt roads, nice pool and the grounds are keep clean. The park has great wifi, ice cream for a dollar, free delicious waffles and a cafe that will deliver to your site. The only complaint I have is the bus load of 50 high school kids next to us cutting through our campsite and using the restrooms. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Nice little park. Most of the park has a lot of trees. Our site was level with gravel and grass between the sites. We had a picnic table and fire pit. The pool was closed as it was at the end of the season. Small selection of cable channel, we could not get the major stations; ABC, CBS, NBC, on cable or over air. WiFi worked good most of the time till evening and then it was very, very slow. The owners are really wonderful, nice, and engaging. They serve fresh waffles every morning between 9 am - 10 am and they are some of the best waffles I have ever had. The showers need some updating, water pressure was good and lots of hot water. There's not a whole lot to do in Arco other than drive to Craters of the Moon. If we ever need to stop in Arco, ID we would definitely stay again. The park has lots of green space and trees for shade. Many amenities for the kids, like swimming pool, frisbee golf, and other kids to play with. There are some noises at night from nearby farming operations, but it is not like being in a city. The staff is friendly, and most of the other campers are too. The pool is quite cold, which is good for a hot summer day, but it is not like soaking in a hot springs. Overall, we found the location to be relaxing and friendly. We just can't resist touring Craters of the Moon whenever we are in this area. So, we are here for the 3rd year in a row. See my 8/16 review for a more detailed description of the park. This time we had one of the FHU, pull through sites in row D for good satellite reception. The Wi-Fi worked well for our minimal (e-mail and web surfing) needs. The bath and shower facilities are older, clean, and barely adequate for this park since there are non-sewer sites. As is typical of most KOA's, there was a pool and playground equipment. Unlike last year when weather was an issue, we were able to enjoy the pool. We didn't take advantage of their dinner food service but one of us enjoyed the morning waffle. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Got two sites side by side. Gravel parking with a pretty wide swath of grass between the sites. The gravel in the sites was very good, but not super level, but was able to easily level with jacks. The gravel in the roads could use some addition as they were fairly dusty to walk on. Staff was plentiful and friendly. They had an ice cream social in the evening for a dollar a scoop. They also offered a large waffle with the fixings in the morning for free. Quiet area- could barely hear the main road a few blocks away. No trains, a relief from other stays on this trip. Stayed on site D 2, which had some nice shade. New picnic tables. gravel pull thru with FHU. Cable and pool. Laundry room. Super friendly staff. Free hot Belgium waffles every morning, even weekends. At 6:30 pm, they will serve ice cream for $1 per scoop to raise money for KOA kids camps. The staff are so nice and friendly. The owners are currently living on the premises, but this is not permanent. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed 3 nights to see Craters of the Moon and EBR 1. Smaller, older KOA. Green space between campsites, owners work to water to ensure they stay that way. Located in high, dry desert area. They do offer ice cream nightly, as well as waffles in the morning. They also offer a limited food menu which they will deliver to your site. Good utilities, wifi and cable. Very small enclosed pet area. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Owners nowhere to be found! Had to wait 1 1/2 hrs. to check in or get propane. Site was a dry weed patch, as was 90% of grounds. No place near what web site stated or we were told on phone when we made the reservation. I was promised a refund by the managers, who finally showed up..ha ha...Joke's on us! Couldn't put out awning due to dead tree. Had to get propane so left and went to a different park. In defense of managers, they were at doctor's 60 miles away. Still should not promise a refund and not give it and should always be someone on site that can conduct business and make decisions. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed here on a trip to the EBR-1 and Craters of the Moon NM. The location is very convenient to both. The staff are very friendly, helpful and keep the park very clean. The sites are gravel and level. They had an Ice Cream Social in the evening and had waffles for breakfast in the morning. They have a small "Paper Plate Café" in the store that serves breakfast as well as burgers, chicken fingers, fries, etc that they will deliver to your campsite. The Campground is well maintained, clean and easy to navigate. They have a nice pool, playground and Dog Wash. WiFi was very good, surprisingly! Other stay options include 2 Teepees and several cabins.. They have a nice store and gift shop. The bathrooms were very clean and they clearly take pride in their park. There were a few restaurants nearby, including Pickles, which had an extensive menu and was pretty good. The town has an interesting park with the sail of the submarine USS Hawkbill, as well as a Mark 4 torpedo, 2 memorial stones and an interesting interpretive station. The town also has an interesting history including being the first to have been nuclear powered. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Stayed here so we could visit Craters of the Moon N.M. Very well layed out with typical size sites. Original section has trees for shade but new section doesn't and the gravel in those sites needs packing down. Utilities were good. I was able to get a satellite signal and their wifi worked great the whole time. Not much else to see as the nuclear info site was closed for the season. This campground was very quiet most of the time as the 2 highways are at least a half mile away and the county road for access doesn't have much traffic. The owner was great with everything we needed and makes great waffles every morning. We extended by a day just because of these 2 things just to take a break. Did get a few items at the small grocery store and prices were about what I expected for a small town in the country.
