Although very open to sun & wind, this campground was very enjoyable. Sites are huge, and the surrounding scenery is beautiful. Nice stone firepits at each campsite. We backed up to the Salmon River and enjoyed watching and listening to birds (including osprey, bald eagle and yellow warbler) and the campground owners' horses. We loved the peace & quiet, as traffic is very light at night, and not all that heavy during the day. This campground is really "the middle of nowhere," and our cellphones did not work here (Verizon), but that was ok. Close by are ghost towns, mining history, tiny town museums, the Sawtooth Range (not visible from the campground but within 1/2 hour drive), and of course river-focused activities. Rafting is especially popular in spring; once the river calms down, fishing becomes big as well. Owners friendly and helpful; recommended places to eat within 15-20 minutes' drive too. The only drawback was the distance the bathrooms/showers were from the campsites (this place also has cabins to rent). We camped at Torrey's Resort RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Ghost towns & gold dredge above Sunbeam, just a few miles west - very interesting. Tiny museum at Clayton (8-9 miles east) , open weekends. 1/2 hour drive to Stanley & the Sawtooth Range, 40-minute drive to Challis (Yankee Fork State Park HQ - interesting displays, "gold" panning demonstrations) Hot springs at Challis and Sunbeam, several river rafting companies in the area; at least one picks up at the campground. No local shopping; closest cafe is about 7 miles away.

We are at Torrey's as I write this. We have always stayed in a Forest Service campground, but fires have them all closed. So, we ended up at Torrey's. Glad we did!!! We have a great view of the river and lots of green grass for our pups to play on. We have Internet, but no cell. Gives us a reason to go to Stanley to make calls, love it here and plan on coming back next year. The owners are very nice and keep the grounds well manicured. The price of an RV spot is so reasonable considering the mountain views all around, watching the horses play and having the river at your door. We keep extending our stay, just hate to leave. We camped at Torrey's Resort RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice RV spot, about 20 miles east of Stanley, and 14 miles west of Clayton. The website claims 20 sites but we only 10 or so. Didn't see 50 amp service either. The sites are nicely separated, but fully exposed to sun, no shade. This is a big cow pasture with full hookups. Don't plan on using your cell phone, television, or radio...unless you have satellite. This is actually a very good place to stay while rafting or fly fishing on the Salmon River, and this camp has sites overlooking the river. Nice and quite and the management is very accommodating. We camped at Torrey's Resort RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
