Paved roads, gravel spaces, some are a little steep, but most all are level enough though. Beautiful, well treed lots. Plenty space between spots. We camped at Sam Owen Campgrpund (NFS) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We found this campground gem four years ago and just fell in love! The setting is gorgeous with sites in the pine-cedar forest as well as directly on Lake Pend Oreille. Some are pull-thru as well as back-in and they can accommodate fairly large RV's but it is best to check their website for the size of each campsite. There are no hookups or showers on site, but the bathrooms are kept quite clean. The campground hosts are very friendly and helpful. This campground is quite popular during the busy summer months so it is best to reserve a site in advance. There is a boat launch for easy access to the lake as well as a sunny beach with a roped off swimming area for children. Right next door is a private campground, Beyond Hope, that also has a wonderful Italian restaurant and outdoor barefoot bar for a nice change from campsite cooking. If you love camping by a large pristine mountain lake and surrounded by beautiful scenery, then this is the place! We camped at Sam Owen Campgrpund (NFS) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This campground is in a more rural area of Lake Pend Oreille, on the far east side near the Montana border. The nearest town is Sandpoint which is about a half hour drive away to the west. Sandpoint is a wonderful tourist town in North Idaho and is also right on Lake Pend Oreille, so there are water sports of all kinds to enjoy as well as excellent restaurants and shopping all within an easy walk from the town's City Beach.

Overall Rating:

Sam Owen is a gem of a campground located on the east side of Lake Pend Oreille, about half an hour from Sandpoint. We were lucky enough to get a site right on the lake with beautiful views. The campground is nestled in the forest so even if you do not have a lake view, the sites are still great with plenty of shade. NO hookups though, and no showers on site as well. But it is a classic campground which was clean and very enjoyable. Will definitely come back if we can reserve a site! It fills up fast! We camped at Sam Owen Campgrpund (NFS) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park located on Lake Pend O'reille. The camp hosts on each loop are very friendly and helpful. This is a well known destination for Canadians. We camped in our 42" RV. There are not a lot of sites for this size and many sites need to be reserved on-line way in advance. There is a dump station and the water pressure is low so be prepared. There are rest rooms, no showers. The lake is crystal clear surrounded by a pine forest with plenty of wildlife. The beach offers a easy boat launch, a large family picnic/beach and on the other side of the launch a dog beach. There is close by laundry and shopping in near by towns. We will definitely be back. We camped at Sam Owen Campgrpund (NFS) in a Motorhome.
