Recreation Resource Management (concessionaire) run Forrest Campground on the banks of the Salmon river. Hand pump for filling water jugs and vault toilets are the CG amenities. Asphalt pads, tent site, picnic table, and a fire ring are at each site. Firewood offered for sale at host site. Water fill at the gas station in town or a dump station/water fill at Redfish lake campground for a $5 fee. Follow "other services" at Redfish Lake for the dump/fill. Launch closed at Mormon Bend to downriver spot from August 15 to mid September ish to allow the salmon to spawn in peace. Heard that other riverside camps were to close to allow the fish spawning. Dismal numbers of salmon due to El Nino so they need all the help they can get. Lots of outfitters from Stanley that drove past on their way downstream to launch rafts. Big rigs fit in the double spaces and even some individual spots. Several tag Axel rigs when we were there. Shade in some spots. Quiet hours (no generators) between 10 pm and 6 am. Lovely space between sites in most cases! We camped at Mormon Bend Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fish hatchery tour was informative with the staff spawning weir caught fish on the day we visited. Stanley bakery was a great breakfast. Stanley lake for kayaking was stunning! Yankee creek was a good dirt road and example of mining in the past with a ghost town to visit. Trout fishing in the area on fly was good.

Small National Forest campground about 5 miles East of Stanley, ID along the Salmon River. Had concessionaire on site as campground host. Host was very nice and offered fishing tips for the River that paid off in spades. Not much shade here, no showers, vault toilets, no cell service. Great spot to catch lots of trout. We camped at Mormon Bend Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a beautiful spot located right on the Salmon River. The camp host keeps the facilities very clean. Fly fishing right outside your unit's door is terrific. Kayaking or tubing from Stanley to the campground is excellent! Lots of outdoor things to do in a very short drive from the campground. We camped at Mormon Bend Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful Forest Service Campground located on the Salmon River. Interior roads and sites are newly paved. Sites are level and long enough to accommodate a 40ft motorhome plus small tow. A few sites are close to Hwy. which is not a busy one. Most sites are back ins, a few pull throughs. No cell service. We would definitely return. This is a quiet park approximately 7 miles from Stanley. We camped at Mormon Bend Campground in a Motorhome.
