This campground is hard to rate. A lot of pros and cons. 2 nice pools. Miniature golf in horrible condition.arcade building smelt so bad you could not be in it. Lots of activities for kids and the director of them was awesome. Female owner seemed very rude toward her employees. Grass sites that were hard to tell where you should be. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Travel Trailer.

I will start by saying my wife and I don't particularly care for campgrounds that promote "seasonal" type camping. Nothing against those who do, its just not our thing. That being said, we chose GRO Resort as a home base for a few days while visiting family in the area. It met our needs just fine. The sites are Ill-defined; just grass sites whose boundaries are marked only by the electrical pedestal. No established fire ring. It seemed campfires were just built on the ground where ever the occupant wanted. The interior roads were a mix of gravel and decaying tar and chip. Tree limbs hung low across the roads and will not accommodate a large motorhome. We were fortunate enough to have a site near the entrance that didn't require us to navigate the trees, otherwise we would have been forced to cancel. Our site, as were most short term sites, was shaded throughout most of the day. The electric, water and sewer hookups were fine. The owner was courteous and greeted us when we arrived. He made sure we found our site and offered to help back us in. While in the area, we drove through several other campgrounds in the area. GRO by far was the best offering. All the campgrounds in the area appeared to me to be occupied by weekenders who leave their campers set up all season drive out from the City to get away. We would not make GRO Resort a vacation destination, but we will consider staying there again when we are in the area. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Motorhome.

Property is huge and has a lot to offer. We stayed during the Memorial Day weekend and the place was packed. We caught a ton of fish (cat, perch, bullhead, and one tiny tiny bass) in their lake. Even though the campground was full it wasn't overly loud at night or in the early AM. Most of their sites are seasonal and they're kept very well but the overnight sites are all different shapes and configurations. Our site was backed up against another behind us and we were VERY close to our neighbors in the back. Their dogs were in our site, their kids were in our site, their kids ball landed on our dog and in our campfire. I have never stayed at a place where the site etiquette was ignored to this extent. We camped with our friends and the campers behind them were playing bocce ball in our friend's site. I know the campground is not responsible for that, and they do put in the rules that campers should be respectful and not cut through others sites, but the closeness and the rude behavior of others would keep me from coming back or recommending this property. Other people's kids left their bikes by the front door of our camper, adults and kids alike were cutting in between our friend's car and their camper and one kid almost got bit by our friend's dog. It was BAD! Perhaps it would have been better on a non-holiday weekend. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older campground that the previous owners have let it go into disrepair. The new owners purchased this about three years ago and are trying very hard to bring back to life. The new owners are vary personable and reach out to new campers that are there. They came over to our site and introduced themselves to us on Sunday which I find outstanding and asked if anything needed to be done.
I did mention that some trees need to be trimmed to provide for additional clearance for large rigs. We might come back in a year or two to see what other improvements, that they have made to this campground. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The store has a very limited amount of things you may need. Wood and ice yes. Little things you forgot at home, not so much. It was Memorial Day weekend and early season so they will probably will fill things up as the season goes on. The kids loved the ice cream cones!!!'

Stayed at the Green River Oaks Memorial Day Weekend and had a blast. Owners and staff were incredible. Sights were large and clean and park was amazing. We had stayed there years ago and the owners have since changed and have done a great job. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Travel Trailer.

When we first arrived water was leaking from the hook ups, I let them know. There were holes in the ground I asked to be covered up so my children wouldn't get hurt and the play areas are outdated and old and I even asked to have that addressed, I didn't want a kid to get hurt. Although it's under new ownership, they were extremely rude and the place is the worst we have been too. What horrible owners. We won't be back and I suggest you look elsewhere. This was our second stay at Green River Oaks Resort and we were just as impressed as the first time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pools are awesome in size and very clean. The shower house was clean. The rate was very affordable with $50 a night includes full hook ups. The activities are well planned. I love that no golf carts are allowed and the open fields with beautiful mature trees. A very lovely property. We will be back. We have three children ages 4,7,and 10 and they all loved it. We are seasonal campers, who also travel a bit in our trailer. We have been camping at Green River Oaks now going on four years and find it to be a great place to enjoy the camping life. The new owners have really started to bring the grounds to high standards. The park has two pools to accommodate all ages, and is located on the Green River for fishing fun and its a great lazy river for tubing or kayaking, canoeing etc. The property is large and has a variety of RV sites from full hookups to primitive. The efforts of the new owners will soon have this park listed as the premier spot to camp in Northern Illinois. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped here many times since the new owners have taken over. They are doing an incredible job of reviving the place. It is a family friendly park with 2 clean and well maintained pools, miniature golf, a game room, and a lazy river with awesome fishing! There are many kid friendly events held every weekend as well so you're never at a loss for things to do! So relaxing and safe! We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We've been weekend camping at GRO for a number of years and since the new owners took over its been night and day difference! My family and I decided to become seasonal members in 2014 and it was a great decision! The new owners have been going nonstop cleaning up the whole park. From taking down dead trees to remodeling buildings and repainting both pools the park looks great! I have two boys and they are always busy doing fun activities like swimming, hiking, playing on the new playground equipment, fishing in the pond etc. There are all sorts of fun things for them to do all weekend. They have bags and horseshoe tournaments for the adults as well. Needless to say it's a great park with great owners and I highly recommend it to people of all ages! We've camped this campground a number of times over the past four years. This year, they have new management. We always said that this park needed a tiny bit of attention and it would be a great park. The new owners are busy making changes. Some of them good - like knocking down a dilapidated building. But some of them are not good, in my opinion. We were told we would have to wear wristbands throughout our entire stay. I don't know why - everything was included in the price - they have a "guarded" shack and as far as I know, the only people who were using the pool were the campers. The store was stocked with very overpriced items. Above and beyond convenience store prices. No bait, but shockingly, they have a can of corn for $2.50!! And the wood was a $1 a piece. A little spendy considering we were not allowed to bring our own wood. They had some scheduled activities - of which we only participated in the craft one in the morning. Otherwise, my kids were busy catching frogs in the pond. Or finding feathers from the Turkey Vultures who perch in the large pine trees. The two pools are typically well-maintained. Although, they were cold. My children only swam for 15 minutes. We will probably go back. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older park that is out in the rural area, so it doesn't have any road noise, railroad trains, etc. It is showing its age and could use some good tlc and repairs. Check-in people were very nice and helpful. Our site was ok, but the sewer connection was broke and just laying on the ground. There are a number of folks who apparently keep there RVs there and come in on the weekends. Would probably stay again when in the area. We were there 4 days/3 nights while attending a class reunion. We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Green River Oaks Camping Resort over 4th of July weekend. We really enjoyed our time here with our two sons. If you want a peaceful, relaxing trip, this is the place for you. First off, the owners are wonderful. They have owned the property for 41 years. They were very welcoming and made us feel at home. The land is beautiful. The swimming pools, basketball court & baseball were bonuses and fun for our boys. I won't lie, the place needs a little TLC, some bushes trimmed and the pavilion could use a new roof but none of that took from the beauty of this campground. We will definitely be back! We camped at Green River Oaks Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
