Feb 2015 - $20.00
There were limited campgrounds open in Feb so not a lot of choices en route from north to warmer climates. We were the only campers in the park. Host was very friendly and escorted us to our site. This park would be a beautiful place to stay in the summer as it is wooded and overlooks a beautiful large lake (which was frozen when we were there). No water available so had to use the public showers - they were not as clean as I would have liked but perhaps hadn't been used in awhile? Some leaves had blown in from outside. Only a couple of pull through sites. Our 37' RV with car attached barely fit. Would be tight for larger rigs or you would need to stay in a back in site. Drive slowly as you enter and exit the park as there were lots of deer, some ran out in front of our rig. - Nautical Wheelers
May 2013 - $15.00
Nice park and setting. Bathrooms incl showers moldy, musty, dirty - wouldn't shower in one. - cmclark
May 2012 - $20.00
We found this park most scenic -- near the beautiful Lake Carlyle -- and near enough to town that we could run in for groceries, restaurants, etc. Even though we had a horrific storm at night, our grounds stayed fine. Showers and toilets could be better (and maybe more of them -- nearer), but all-in-all, it was nice. We can't comment on the pool and grocery part as it wasn't open yet. But we do recommend this park. - stocky

Dam West has some of the cleanest bathrooms and camp sites. Love how they come every Tuesday and Friday to clean out your fire pit. Their laundry facility is great and only cost $1 for a wash. The only thing I can complain about is that the hostess can be extremely rude at times. I understand they want everything to go smoothly but in some cases the attitude makes us not want to continue our stay. It is shocking to us that we can talk to the hostess when they drive by, but they can't remember who we are when we come into the campground. Sometimes so rude to us if our tag isn't on our mirror. Well my vehicle mirror is so thick that it does fit around it. - AshleyVoss10
Oct 2016 - $9.00
Gorgeous park and location on the lake, excellent paved roads and large paved sites, clean & well maintained. Staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Only 24 full hook-up sites, reserved well in advance. Could reach WiFi only within 150 feet of bath house. - Nancy J
Sep 2016 - $9.00
Clean well kept grounds, widely spaced sites with many large trees and grass. Long back-ins to graveled mostly level site pads with 50/30/15 amps, but no water. Well designed dump at cg entrance and separate potable water access. Pleasant host at entry office. Bath house with individual rooms with toilet, sink, and shower with hot water. About 1/3 of sites have lake water/beach view/access. CG roads good tarmac. A graveled path leads to near by marina. A beautiful CG and thanks to the Corp of Engineers. - 210jem
Oct 2016 - $29.00
We arrived just before Halloween, all parks were full but we were able to secure a spot here. The roads in are in poor shape but passable. The host/owner was very helpful. The bathrooms are old but large and clean, better than some of the state parks we have been in. Although it was Halloween weekend it was very quiet. We gave it high marks because of the host/owner. We would come back to this park. - EricKathy
Mar 2014 - $29.00
Hickory Shores "Resort" -- definitely need to remove the last part of the campground name. This park is a far from being a "Resort" in any context of the word -- bluntly, this "place" is a dump!! We were in the parking lot (by choice) as there was a 50 AMP connection -- one of the few in the "place". The Host was extremely helpful and apologized for the condition of the "place" -- owner appears reluctant to invest in updating all the known issues/deficiencies. We last stayed here in the early '90s and it's not been updated/maintained for years. Mostly folks living here are on a yearly basis -- projects a neglected "trailer park" appearance. - ChiefJohn
Aug 2009 - $31.00
This campground sites were very small. I have a 31 foot motorhome, we could not put up our awning due to a tree in the way. My slideout was about 1 to 2 inches from another tree on other side. The water & electric hook up was on other side of camper so we had to get out a garden hose for water. They had a very nice pool. The office/store closed by 3pm most time sooner than that. There was a pond with no fish in it one of the permanents said he there was fish in there but he had not seen anyone pull any out in a long time. Carlyle lake is near by its a huge man made lake looks like a smaller lake Michigan. There are lots of water things to do there. The campground was loud at night because cars and trucks. All in all this was a no thrills campground I would not drive out of my way to stay here. Lake Carlyle cool, Hickory shores resort not cool. We will not be going back. - rv1
Apr 2016 - $29.00
We stopped here as it was the closest we could find to meeting friends. We were told we were getting a concrete slab pull thru. It was the most un-level site we had on our trip from AZ to IL. Site surface was gravel, sunny/open, with very close lot spacing. The roads were gravel with potholes. The road to the office from the entrance was quite steep. It was okay, but we won't stay here again. - Retired2Travel
Aug 2015 - $23.00
We stayed one night as a stop over. The park is fine for one night. We had a pull though in the shade. Lots of long term trailers parked here. No wifi and electric service went out for two hours which might not be the parks fault. If it rained there would have been a lot of mud. Management did not answer phone put walked to office when they noticed us pull in. They parked us away from the long term campers. Dump station easy to get to. - Mark from Missouri
Apr 2011 - $20.00
Owner is not friendly. It took a few hours to find someone to sell us wood at the office. The pond smelled of dead fish. Many permanent residents. We camped in a tent surrounded by permanent residents. Whole camp is surrounded by corn fields. - Archadia
Sep 2016 - $24.00
Our favorite "near-by" campground. The FHU sites need reserved well in advance but electric only sites are usually available. Beach within biking distance and boat ramp are free to use for registered guests. Frisbee golf, nice playgrounds. FHU loop is always very quiet. Other loops have a younger crowd but are never what I would call rowdy. - JVarwig
Jun 2016 - $15.00
The campsites are very spacious and well maintained. I cannot remember our site number, but it was in the 70's, I think. The fee is an estimate, too. I know it was less than twenty dollars a night.
The bathrooms and shower houses were clean and well-maintained. There is a nice beach area for families to access the lake.
We'll definitely be back! - mizsec1
Jun 2015 - $12.00
We only stayed one night on our way north but wish we could have stayed longer. We had a pull thru with sewer and a great view a bay and the beautifull park across the bay. I wish I would have had time to kayak on the lake.
It is a bit out of the way but worth the journey. Will stay here again when we head north again. - Lainee131
Sep 2016 - $12.00
We have stayed in various sites at Boulder. It is a campground where many people interested in fishing frequent. The sites are roomy and wooded. We enjoy this campground very much. Full service is limited to 10 sites the remaining are electric only. - Jerome Nix
Sep 2014 - $16.00
This is an excellent COE campground. We stayed in site #5 that is a wide, paved site that looks out onto the marina. It has full hookups and is quite spacious. The utilities all worked well, and the views are great. We had originally reserved another site, but upon arrival learned that there had been a cancellation on a full hookup site. It was a great decision! I will stay here again. - SargeW
Sep 2014 - $8.00
This is a nice Corps of Engineers park but not quite as nice as others we have stayed at. The sites are electricity only and we were able to secure one with 50 amp service. There are water faucets spotted around the park to fill your tank. There is absolutely no recycling of any kind in the park; shame on you, Federal Government. We were able to get a great DirecTV signal from space 50 and our Verizon Wireless signal was adequate as well. We would stay here again. - Kent and Margaret
May 2017 - $35.00
Incredibly tight roads with warning signs. Very narrow tight spaces. Our awning would hit our neighbor. Appear to be a number of long term families with small children. It's a lovely wooded area and the surroundings are nice. The spaces are unshaded and quite tight.
We're likely to look at other options next time we pass through. As with many parks, the pictures on the web paint a nicer picture than reality. - Ken Camp
Sep 2016 - $32.00
Where do the high ratings for this RV Park come from? When we pulled in here my Wife said, "Wow, they sure hired a good photographer for their website." The photos on the website are real, but they look so much better than the place does in real life. This is a campground in a rural setting a mile off of a major interstate that has 90% residents and 10% overnighters.
It would not be possible for us to describe this CG as a nice place and good value. Perhaps, it's best described as adequate or maybe serviceable.
Some examples of the issues here would be the subpar roads within the park. There are many "tight turn" signs and the trees lining the entrance roads are all scared from past scrapes with RVs. Just walking into the CG office gives you a feeling you've chosen the wrong CG for the night. You'll also find slapdash construction of plywood structures (multiple such structures) that give a decidedly shoddy appearance to the place. This includes bath houses with only one very old and well-used toilet and toilet/shower stalls made of plywood. Oddly the stalls had doors that were only ~20" or so wide.
After having stayed here we have no idea how it got rated as highly as it has but we can't agree with them. - Creativepart
Aug 2016 - $32.00
Short term sites are very close! We had to be careful opening our slide without bumping into our neighbors awning! Our end site was bearly long enough to accommodate us. It was quiet allowing for a good nights sleep. Very tight turns but doable if you swing wide as the signs state. Verizon and Direct were good. - Full timer with dogs
Aug 2016 - $20.00
I camped with my parents and my daughter for a weekend in the fall 2016. The lake was great and provided beautiful views. My daughter loved to fish from the docks. I would highly recommend. - Previous Seasonal Camper
May 2013 - $20.00
Nice state park, and good campground. We have camped and fished here many times, and we always have an enjoyable time. Campground hosts are usually very nice and cooperative. Showers and restrooms are clean and well maintained. Sites are spacious, and mostly very shady. Fire rings, BBQ grills, picnic tables at each site. Water is available at several locations throughout the campground, and at the dump station. Nice lake, boat docks, and store with the essentials, plus fishing bait, ice, snacks, etc. Also have decent archery range. - Beekeeper2
Sep 2016 - $23.00
Old, unlevel, rocky graveled road for one mile, 3 pull throughs, Unkept park, hard to find the right roads to get there. Would not go there again. - Berry Patch
Sep 2016 - $34.00
Very nice campground. Fair (rustic) restrooms & showers. "Woodsy oasis in middle of cornfields." Quiet respite from madding crowds. At least two nice playgrounds for children. - BShearer
Aug 2016 - $23.00
Don't let your GPS take you "overland" to this campground! Stay on I-70 to the Mulberry Grove exit. Very nice owners. Many seasonals. Nice pool. Utilities worked fine. Sites were long enough for MH and toad. We would stay here again. - SusanRon
