As with most Army Corp campgrounds, this was a very nice campground. The sites are paved with most having a concrete pad adjacent to the blacktop drive. (Some of the concrete pads are in need of replacement.) Most sites have parking for more than one vehicle. The roads are nicely paved and great for bicycling as are the bike trails. Our site was one of the sites with sewer as well as water and electricity. Very nice, especially when you're staying for two weeks. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Rend Lake is a very large lake, though rather shallow in most areas. Plenty of opportunities for fishing and swimming. Nearby Benton is an interesting town with a lot of history and a very nice city square.

Not sure why people rate this park so high. Differences of opinion I guess. It is a basic campground with back-in sites on the blind side. Yes, it has nice big sites and is quiet. If that is all it takes to rate a campground high, well there you go. Most sites are sloped to the rear. Water pressure was very good. The grass at my site needed cutting. No wifi, weak antenna tv signals. Knowledgeable check-in staff. Lots of deer in the park. Had a skunk come thru my site one evening. Glad I saw him before he saw me. Narrow loop roads and some trees on those loop roads need trimming. Directions on the park's site take you across the dam. Instead of that, it is easier to turn right at the Walmart (N Central St) once you get off the highway, then 1/4 mile past Walmart (keep Walmart on your right) turn left at the first stop sign (Rend Lake Rd). Follow that road about 5 miles to the park entrance. There is one 90 degree turn (Rend Lake Rd becomes Mine 24 Rd) about 1/4 mile after you make the first left. Other than that turn, there are 2 stop signs and VERY little traffic. The camp entrance will be on your right. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Many sites have separate parking for your tow. Some are close to areas where boats can be parked. Some FHU and some electric only. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Check in was done by a very informative and friendly campground host. Our site was clean upon arrival. The one lane roads are a bit tricky if you are in a large rig. While our site was level, we saw many sites that were no where near level. Our site had water and sewer, but check before you reserve a site, because most of them were electric only. Very scenic area along Rend Lake. Showers were clean, but men's room for reason had no hot water, but my wife indicated the women's rest room showers were almost too hot if you turned the water up too high.

Fire rings and picnic tables are at each site. Wal Mart in Benton is about 5 minutes away, so if you forget something, you won't have a long trip to town. A lot of space between sites. Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our experience at South Marcum and will return. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Motorhome.

Would have given this park a 10 if it weren't for the unlevel sites. However, that's the only negative. Very clean and spacious sites. The bike trail around Rend Lake is awesome. The whole area around the lake was very well kept. Even the ranger at the visitor center was very friendly. We will return here again. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park located about 5 miles from I-57. Lots of wildlife in the area. Check-in was very pleasant. Friendly folks at gate. Good paved roads wide enough for big rigs to maneuver. Site access is angled for easy backing. The 30 amp service was very reliable. The kind and considerate folks a few sites down allowed their yellow lab to run free for the two days we were here. It made it impossible for us to walk our dog (on a leash) in that area of the park. I told the park attendant but never saw a ranger during our stay. Verizon and ATT phone service worked fine. Had 10-12 over the air channels. Was able to get a satellite signal through the treetops but had to work for it. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great Corps of Engineer campground. The grounds are well maintained, the staff is very helpful and the restrooms/showers were clean. The rate we paid reflects the Senior Pass discount. Rates range from $12 for tent sites to $36 for full hook-ups. Full hook-up sites are limited. They include #'s 14 thru 18 in Owl's Roost loop (reservable; Sites 19, 22, 23, 25, 28, and 30 on the Beaver Lodge loop (non-reservable); Sites 49 thru 54 and 60 thru 63 on the Buck Ridge loop (reservable); Sites 65, 66, 67, 69, 70, 72, 74, 77, 79, 80 thru 84, 115, 116, 119, 121, 122, 125, 126, 127, and 129 on the Covey Point loop (reservable); and Site 137 on the Whispering Pines loop (non-reservable). Excellent tent sites are available on the lake and are level with fire rings and picnic tables. We spent 3 nights and had several deer walk through our site including a doe with 3 fawns and 2 buck with 4 points each. What a sight. Some sites require side to side and front to back leveling, but the majority are either flat or only require front to back leveling. The campground is easy to get to off of I-57. We will definitely stay here again. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is campground heaven! Tall trees, paved roads & sites (our #84 was right next to a private bathroom & shower, and was on a lake-side peninsula) on Rend Lake. There is lots of room (about 50 feet) between sites & screening trees between. Quiet & beautiful spot, but only 3 miles from I-57. Best of all, our America the Beautiful Senior Pass meant that our regular fee of @24 for full hookups was only $12. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Motorhome.

Some new bathrooms, asphalt pads, and additional sewer hookups ( and some sites) were added to this campground in 2011. This campground is usually full, and has many waterfront sites on a large and busy COE lake. It's close to a boat ramp and the dam. Walmart is about 2-3 miles. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Very large and manicured campground. It's on the shore of the very large Rend Lake. Far enough out of town to be quiet, but close enough if you need to run in for supplies. Some of the sites may require some leveling, but the cost and the hookups are worth it. The sites near the shoreline are generally electric only but as you move away from the shore, you get full hookups. Even though it is wooded, We were still able to get satellite reception. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here previous to our travel trailer purchase. It rained extremely hard over Labor Day weekend so now we no longer tent camp. Our site would not have accommodated a trailer with a slide or allowed one to put up the awning, but the website warned of this. There were many pine trees to provide a great deal of shade and the sites were far apart from each other. The facilities were clean and you could use the swimming beach for free with your campers ticket on the rear view mirror. It was a nice lakeside beach. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Tent.

Awesome, awesome campsite. We thought it was very spacious and clean. The views of the sunset by the lake were goregous! We would love to stay here again if we are in the area. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
