We were in site 170. It had full hookups including sewer. The site was fairly level with a large area for the picnic table. A lot of sites had extra parking spaces. The park was very quiet and peaceful. Campground is kept clean. Great spacing between sites with views of the woods and lake. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Typical COE campground - well maintained, well laid out. Site spacing was good, most sites level. The Rend Lake bike trail is a long, concrete paved trail that runs around the South end of the lake and attaches visitor centers, day use areas, campgrounds and scenic areas. The path is segmented now, but will eventually include the State Park and run all the way to Mt. Vernon. You think of a bike trail being mostly flat - not so with the Rend Trail, but still a good trail for those who are in shape and used to biking. Some sites are full hookup. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful location. Trimming some trees would improve the view. The county road you travel on to get there is a rough ride especially with the camper attached. Regular rate $24.00. (50% discount for Golden Agers). No wifi or cable We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Benton jail was worth the stop. Eat at Seasoning Bistro. The Visitor Center @ the Park was also worth the stop. Free and interesting.

Overall Rating:

This campground located on Rend Lake is across the small bay from another campground - North Sandusky. The campground has 5 loops and two of the loops - Pine Tree and Dogwood have full hookup sites for $24 a night. There are a wide variety of sites, most with nice pea gravel sitting areas. The only negative is many of the sites are sloped making leveling your RV a challenge. The campground is kept very clean and nicely mowed. There is a beautiful beach on the lake nearby as well as a marina. A very nice concrete bike trail runs along the lake. Rend Lake has several nice COE recreation areas as well as a state park on it's shores. It is close to I-57 making it ideal for an overnight stop. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out the nearby COE Visitors Center. We also enjoyed the Jefferson County Historical Village located in Mt. Vernon about 20 miles north of the campground.

Overall Rating:

We used to stay in the Pine Tree loop for some peace and quiet, but since full hook ups were installed last year, it has become quite popular. Now we try a another loop, and grab one of the shorter sites for our 21' TT. Sites are decently spaced and fairly level side to side, but some do slope quite a bit down (or is it up?) hill. Pads are asphalt with a good-sized gravel tent pad. Hookups are placed just about perfectly. Power was a constant 124 V. Reservations are almost a necessity if you want one of the few waterfront sites. Bathrooms and showers are cleaned daily I believe. The wide concrete walking trail is several miles long, and I usually see a few deer and a flock or two of turkeys on my morning jog. Restaurants and shopping are 10 minutes away either in Benton or Sesser, and you might want to stop at the visitors center a couple miles away. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is an Army Corp of Engineer campground. Price reflects the Federal senior discount for water/ electric site. Full hookups are a few $ more. This is a gorgeous campground on Rend Lake. Clean, quiet, well maintained, and friendly. There is a boat launch and there are tie-ups along the shoreline for keeping your boat near your site during your stay. The sites are all paved, but vary in length and levelness. This is a great place for an extended stay or a vacation. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay at South Sandusky campground. We practically had the place to ourselves as we were there after Labor Day. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The grounds and roads were in great shape. The rate was with the senior discount. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Wonderful time. Go during non holiday weekends if you really want piece and quiet. Full hookups are closer to the site loop entrances and not by the water. The only exception to this would be Gunn Creek. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground located next to Rend Lake. Very mature pine trees provide lots of shade. Very family friendly. Nice campground for people who are accustomed to camping in state parks and/or who are not looking for an RV resort. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the Pine Tree Loop - full hook-up site. The sites were nice, lots of shade. Surrounded by pine trees so it can be some what tricky when parking the camper and when letting out the awning. Some of the camper pads could use some patching and leveling; ours was a little bumpy where the pavement was buckling a little. We love the fire pits and concrete picnic tables. The bike trail is nicely paved and not too hilly. The playgrounds are nice and shaded, this one needed some more wood chips but otherwise very nice. We will definitely return next year. Very nice, peaceful park on large Rend Lake reservoir. There are very few full hookup sites all located in reservable areas, but most sites have 50 amp power only. Central water available. There are 5 loops all reservable except Pin Oak loop (sites 199 to 220). Pin Oak sites are larger and better spaced than other loops. We were in Pin Oaks loop the first weekend in June, saw several open sites each day. Lots of birds. Lots of shade. Our favorite round steel fire pits and a table at each site. We will come here again. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Campground located on Rend Lake. Sites were fairly well spaced and paved. This particular campground is in the middle of a Pine Forest so there were pine needles and pine cones everywhere, but not a huge problem. Bathrooms were fairly clean. Quiet, family friendly campground. Wonderful beach, bike trails and great fishing. We will definitely be back. The full hook-up sites book quickly. We camped at South Sandusky Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.
