The specifics from the previous reviews are accurate. This is a sweet little place, far superior to most commercial parks. Convenient to the Chicago area for whatever might bring you to the area. The staff was very friendly and the park was spotless. The rate was $35 for non-residents. $25 for Illinois residents. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Motorhome.

Three S's: No Sewer, no Shade, and no showers. That being said, let's get on to the good things: Wide paved roads with generous and level gravel water and 50 amp electric sites. Of the 96 RV sites, 8 are pull throughs (also gravel). You need a long hose to hook up to water. Two conveniently located dump stations at the entrance/exit. We drove in, selected our site and a park attendant drove up in an ATV to collect the fee (cash or check). We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

What a great park. Five year old county park. Extremely well maintained. Under-utilized. Downside, maybe? No sewer, showers, or shade. They are discussing adding those. Lots are huge! Could put three campers on the same site. Water shared between two sites, and requires 75' of water hose. Aurora, 2nd largest town in Illinois, is 12 miles away and has full services, and commuter train into Chicago. Greatest draw is access to Chicago. Interstate 88 is a straight shot into downtown. One hour drive to lakefront attractions. Spent two nights here. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a newer park, and a great place for a few days to a week. Sites are nice and large, however, the trees are still maturing so no shade, which would be a problem in hot summers. Quiet park, great trail to nearby lake and woods, about 3 miles round trip. Attendants/hosts were great. No credit cards, cash or check only. No sewer hookups, but double dump site. Park is only about 12 miles from the Aurora Metra station which gets you to the Chicago Loop in about 45 minutes. Make sure you have at least 75' of hose as some water hook ups are placed a bit far from the pads. We will definitely return when in area. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Spotlessly clean spacious park with gravel sites and paved handicapped sites. Staff very friendly, firewood $5 for a nice bundle. All sites 50 amp with water, but no sewer hook-up. Two dump stations at exit. There is an equestrian area also. As it's a new park there are only small trees. We stayed for an Escapees event and others commented on it being a nice quiet park. We will return. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Small aviation museum at nearby Aurora Municipal Airport. Shops on Rt 30 and Galena Blvd. Bit of a drive. Convenient for Fox River Valley towns. Geneva has a nice downtown with the Fabian house and grounds. Good fishing in the quarry lake we were told.

Clean open park, surrounded by farm land. Wooded area to the south. Nice flat gravel pads. No sewer at pad, dump station at exit. Bring an extension hose for your water. Sounds of trains passing occasionally. On a Wednesday the week before Labor Day weekend the park was deserted. WONDERFUL bike or walking path through fields and around a water filled quarry. I'd return if the park was not full. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a young park, meaning the trees are not big enough to give shade yet. You drive in and find a space you are comfortable with and the attendant will stop by later to collect the fee and pertinent information. It is a large, clean park with a comfortable amount of room between sites. All of the sites are 50 amp, so we used an adapter - and we lost power a couple of times with the AC going most of the time during the first heat wave of 2016. There are pull thru and back in sites on gravel with grass between each site. We stayed three nights, very quiet and comfortable. The park has water and electric only. Dump stations on-site. We would stay again. It's a long ride from I-80. We stayed in a 28' motor home with a tow. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Would have been a 10 if they had sewer hook-ups. This is a campground, as opposed to an RV Park. Very few amenities, but a nice quiet spot on the prairie with miles of walking and biking paths in the adjacent forest preserve.

Large campsites well spaced. Well laid out. As noted before the water connections are a bit far from the spaces, need a couple extra length of hose, but not a big issue as you have to move to dump your tanks anyway, so fill the fresh water tank when you do.

Limit on stay of 14 days out of every 21 days. Campground is part of Kane County Forest Preserve.

A bit far from the interstates for an overnight stop, but convenient to US 30. Since the campground is only a few years old the trees are all small saplings, no shade whatsoever! Will be better in a few years.

Fairly convenient to Aurora where you can catch the train into Chicago. Handicap sites are paved versus gravel. All sites are nice sized, the pull through are quite long. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We are local who use this spot to get out of the Chicago area hustle and bustle. Lovely area with lots of open fields and trees. Close to a railroad track but not overly noisy. Just a few years old. We wish other counties in the area would copy this park. They do not have showers, saying the insurance liability is too great. We would give it a 10 if it did. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Bristol Tap in Bristol is not to be missed. They only serve burgers and chips. Pepsi too, just like the Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago, made famous by Bill Murray and John Belushi on Saturday Night Live. Only take cash. But you won't find a better burger anywhere.

New County campground, opened 2 years ago. Paved roads, level gravel sites with water and electric. Water supplies are far from sites, need long hoses except for handicap sites. All sites have tables and fire rings. Campground hosts are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Very rural setting. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Motorhome.
