Beautiful campground on the lake, with lots of mature trees, lots of space between sites, nice broad, paved, easy to navigate roads, and mostly level paved sites with big patio areas, picnic table, and fire ring. Our second Corps of Engineers (CoE) campground, and we are really loving them. No cable or WiFi, but strong Verizon signal. Power stable for 3 nights. Clean and well maintained campground and facility, with only negative thing to say is that there is no soap dispenser of any kind in the bathroom in Loop 1...huh?!? Shower building was fairly remote nearer to loops that were electric only, so we did not use it. Evidence that in a heavy rain, some sites can be pretty muddy at entrance, and hard to get to on foot without going through a lot of water in gullies between sites and road, in Loop 1 anyway. Big attraction here is of course boating and fishing, and there are no hiking trails of any kind in the CG. Town of Carlyle, about 15-20 minutes away, has Walmart, IGA supermarket, diesel fuel. Lots of other types of CoE parks and state parks dotted around this huge lake that you can visit. Yet another CG that we wished we could stay longer at, and would definitely come back to. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very strange experience. Every other COE campground where we have stayed the "Standard Electric" designation implied both an electric hook-up and a water spigot. In this campground the only potable water was at just a few spigots (2?) in each loop and at the dump station. And at the dump station the "cleaning water" spigot was painted the bright blue that every other location uses for the potable water. When I tested the electric pedestal at site 85 my surge protector showed that the L1 circuit had reversed polarity. I tested several other pedestals and found multiple ones with either open grounds or others with reversed polarity. The camp host assured me that the maintenance man would be down to check it out. When he hadn't showed up within an hour I persuaded her to move me to another site. She of course scoffed that there could be any problem because their 'electrical guy is certified'. Sorry, but circuit testers don't lie either. And the maintenance man never did show up though the ranger did come around a couple of hours later to make sure we had power in our new site. Nice campground with huge spaces. Just be sure to get in the first loop if you want a water hookup and check the power pedestal. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We passed many 'a cornfield to get here. Electric only on sites. Dump station with fill water on-site. Be sure to check out the local farmer bar with pizza takeout (Deb's Red Rose). There's no official sign except a Bud Light banner swinging in the breeze, but it's on Boulder on your right, just before Wiedle Rd. Not much of a view of the water from our campsite, but the reservoir and swimming beach was only a ¼ mile walk. There is also a boat launch in the park. Bathrooms were very clean, did not use showers. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Loved this campground. Asphalt pad and patio area, very large sites, and full hook-ups available on the waterfront lots. Most of the park is electric only, but there are about a dozen sites located along a little cove of the lake that are waterfront. There are other full hook-up sites in that section, but not on the water (although several have a view). Easily navigable interior roads, good utilities (although we don't measure water psi and electric amperage), and nice facilities. The park has it's own beach with bath house, boat ramp, shelter houses and picnic areas. There's really nothing else around this lake (we did the 1hr tour around it...roads are terrible and scenery is poor...thanks, honey...), despite the fact that it's 26,000 acres. Carlyle is about it. We were very pleased with the campground, though, and the FHU area was very quiet, even on Friday night. It doesn't appear to be a big 'party' campground, and the camp host confirmed that it only gets a little noisy on the big 3 (Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July), but usually mostly pretty quiet. Tip for travelers- don't follow GPS if it tries to take you from the northeast to this campground. Roads are terrible. From the east, take the US 50 exit at Salem, off of I-57, it's only 25 miles from there, and it's straight, state highway roads. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Our favorite "near-by" campground. The FHU sites need reserved well in advance but electric only sites are usually available. Beach within biking distance and boat ramp are free to use for registered guests. Frisbee golf, nice playgrounds. FHU loop is always very quiet. Other loops have a younger crowd but are never what I would call rowdy. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The campsites are very spacious and well maintained. I cannot remember our site number, but it was in the 70's, I think. The fee is an estimate, too. I know it was less than twenty dollars a night.

The bathrooms and shower houses were clean and well-maintained. There is a nice beach area for families to access the lake.

We'll definitely be back! We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Tent Trailer.

We only stayed one night on our way north but wish we could have stayed longer. We had a pull thru with sewer and a great view a bay and the beautifull park across the bay. I wish I would have had time to kayak on the lake.

It is a bit out of the way but worth the journey. Will stay here again when we head north again. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed 1 night before the Memorial Day weekend and had no problem getting a site. The sites were large and spacious. Verizon reception was OK and no problem getting a signal for DirecTV. Good 50A service with steady voltage around 120V. We had a full hookup site with good water pressure. We were just passing through but would have liked to be able to stay for several days as it was a very nice campground and our site had a large shade tree with a great view of the water. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice COE campground. The sites are huge and in good shape. The grounds are very well maintained. Nice grass and huge mature trees. We had a lakefront site and it was very nice. All sites were back in. Very quiet area. The only negative was finding the place. We arrived after dark and there were no signs from the main road to direct you to this place at all. Once you find it, it is worth it though. Nice swimming beach area, boat ramps, extra parking for boat trailers. We had an electric only site and it was great for a weekend. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites are big, paved, and clean. This park has limited full hook up sites. If you are fortunate enough to get in on a reservation you will love it. Very quiet. The summer is booked usually over the weekends...by the locals, which makes it difficult for full timers like us. 10 miles from town. Walk-ins are either W/E or just E. Reserve America isn't clear on this. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Reservation website, recreation.gov, does not make it clear which sites have hookup's and which do not. Very few sites have water & sewer hookups. campground is far from civilization which makes it quiet, but not easy to find groceries, etc. We have stayed at Dam West several times which is MUCH better. We probably will not stay at Coles Creek again. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Great campground on Carlyle Lake. We had a wonderful lakefront spot with great fishing. Not much around the lake to do, but if you are a water lover or fisherman, this is a great campground. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.
