We needed a place for an extended stay near Jacksonville, IL and there are few other options. The road into the campground is barely big enough for two vehicles and not big enough when one of the vehicles is an RV. Someone is going to have to pull over and yield. The park roads are gravel and the sites are grass and gravel and not very level. We rarely use blocks but they were necessary here. The park is large and very beautifully maintained. The sites are strangely laid out and crowded. We shared water with one or maybe two other sites, I couldn't tell. One is required to mow one's site with the provided mower and weed eater. This is acceptable as the sites are small and so is the fee. Security is very good. There are a lot of year-round residents. The one thing I found disturbing was that there seems to be a set of rules for the people who live there and another for visitors. We would go back if we had to, but would not go out of our way to come here. The managers were on top of everything and easy and pleasant to work with. - Joann26

We stayed on a monthly rate. Winter hook ups available. More 30 amp lots then 50 amp. It seems like a wonderful place to stay in summer. Quite close to a store but out of town. - twinapril

Very nice campground but a little neglected. Could be very good if the state would put a little more money into upkeep. Pros: Beautiful setting, lots of mature trees, most sites are well shaded. Bathrooms are clean but aging. Host was very helpful and friendly. Cons: Most sites are not level. No water available at sites (though available for fill-up nearby). Cell signal is fair to poor (with T-Mobile). Overall a nice campground, just could be even better. - rdkeith

I have stayed here years before this recent encounter. The campground and facilities are in a word "tired." While the restroom and showers are serviceable they are very outdated. The showers were almost clean but not quite. The high point in the showers seems to be the drains in the mens shower/bathroom. The water simply ran away from the drain. The campsites are all gravel and the biggest sites that will accommodate 40' rigs were not all level. Reserve America has taken over the registration and reservation system for this park and it is not as accurate as it should be. Make sure that you read the length of the RV Pad itself not the overall length including from front to back. I had mistakingly reserved site 22 which lists the overall length of the site as 47' but if you read closely you will see that the useable length is 25'. We also found that there are many power pedestals that have electrical difficulties and they cannot be fixed. So, at least at this time there are many unserviceable sites. 50 amp is only at certain sites. Water spigots are dispersed through out the facility but you will need at least 100' of hose if you plan to reach them without moving your RV. There is a dumpsite as well. So, if your grey/effluent volume is expected to be more than your lengths stay be sure to bring a portable wast tank to take to the sewage dump. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. My overall rating would have been higher if the shower/bathroom facility was up to my expectations. On a scale of 1-10 I would give the park a six. - Charlie_72704

Nice forested campground on the banks of the Illinois River before it joins with the Mississippi. Easy to find with the entrance just off the Great River Road. Gorgeous views of the river either way you travel -- from the north or the south. - ElsieS

This was our first trip in our new RV. Camp hosts were awesome and gave us all the info and help we needed for our stay. We got help backing in and the sites were all fairly level and in good shape. 30 amp service was provided and there were community spigots where you can fill up your fresh water tanks. There is a dump station at the enter/exit point for emptying your tanks. The place was very quiet even though there were a lot of campers. The entrance to the camping area is a long very steep hill. Once you get in the camping area you come to a stop sign right where the camp hosts stay and that makes it feel pretty secure. There are some tight turns and trees might be an issue if you have a bigger rig, mine is 30 ft and it was not much of a problem to navigate. There is one area off limits if you have anything besides a smaller rig because it is so tight so make sure and check in with the host prior to picking out a site. Shower house was clean as were the restrooms/outhouses in the camping area. Other restrooms in the park were terrible as was the fish cleaning area. The lake itself is beautiful and had some great fishing. There are a ton of ducks and geese and there is a constant ring of feces in and around the lake and parking areas. They did come out with a shovel and do some cleaning but it was quickly replaced, something to consider if you have small kids or pets. There is a marsh that you can visit near the dump station that was very interesting and some great hiking trails as well. There is what remains of an old restaurant that looks like it has been closed for several years and nothing else available in the park that we could see so make sure you have everything you need when you come. The host sells firewood and we were not allowed to bring wood in from home. No individual water or sewer hook ups. Overall very quiet and drama free stay and I will definitely return. - Jayco 2587

Nice campground, and we like it for a weekend trip, due to it being located within an hour of our house. I can remember my folks camping here many times. Nice little fishing lake, but they no longer have a bait shop, so plan accordingly. Sites are in nice shape, and the showers/restrooms are well kept and were clean and attended to. Paved roads in good shape, and gravel sights are the norm. All in all, a nice, quiet place for a relaxing weekend. - Beekeeper2

Nice campground. Great restaurant for any meal we didn't want to cook. Fishing boat rental was nice. Would go back. - jes9996
