As you all know, this is the only option for RV parking anywhere near downtown Chicago. Everyone warned us that this is only a truck yard with no amenities, but here's why it sucked. Going to a volleyball tournament at Oak Street Beach, so staying here would be cool because we could ride bikes along the waterfront, walk to Chinatown, etc. Called three times - a month out, 10 days out, and the day before. "Sure, we have plenty of room - bring $35 cash per night and you're all set!" But when we arrive, someone has rented out the entire yard for a trade show. I get it-that's what the yard is for. But don't tell us we are good to go three times, have us drive all the way there without a TOAD, and then tell us tough luck. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

What everyone has said: It's a parking lot between a rail line and two freeways with semis coming and going at all hours. There is nothing to recommend this place except its location. Come with full water tanks, there is none there. Note: the entrance is the one where the yard office building is, the first left after turning onto Moe St. Park as near to the (only) islands of trees at the McCormick end of the yard as you can. Avoid parking between trucks, one might back into you at night. We had no security concerns. There is a guard circulating somewhere in the lot all night. There is a bike path, a nature trail and a seawall that go for miles. Good AT&T, no Wifi, and surprisingly only 4 channels OTA. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

This Architectural River Tour https://www.architecture.org/tours/detail/chicago-architecture-foundation-center-river-cruise-aboard-chicagos-first-lady-cruises/ is well-worth the cost. The Chicago History Museum was eminently miss-able. Be sure to have cocktails at the top of the Hancock tower. I wish we had gone to the Art Institute of Chicago; we were just too tired.

It is a longish walk to the Metra station in McCormick Place. Don't drive downtown. Aside from the hassle, parking cost $35 for two hours. Lyft worked flawlessly and cost about $11 plus tip from the Millennium Park area to the yard. There is a great park right across Lakeshore Drive, but you have to drive to it. Cross Lakeshore at 31st St., turn left and park at the meters.

We only stayed here one night. It's not really a campsite, it's a big trucks and buses parking area that is comfortable for RVs too. Very close to the city center (Millennium Park is 5 min. by car). UberXL (6 people) costed 17$ to the Millennium Park. On the night we were there, there were a few more RVs. Can use generator - nobody cares, there's a lot of noises from the road and a train. But as I said, it's in the middle of the city. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

As many have said this is parking lot used for overflow for sports events and trucks. Access was simple following instructions provided by others. Access by 55 south off at 21st and head to marshalling yard. Didn't see a bridge in the way at all. Be prepared and your access is easy I wouldn't recommend coming without a fully self contained rv as there are no showers bathrooms water hookups or power onsite or nearby I was Traveling in a 45'mh so absolutely no problem parking here for four days Found a spot at end and closest neighbor about 70 feet away. Generator run daily to keep coach utilities up Got here on a Thursday stayed until Monday. A Bears game was going on Sunday. Surrounded by tailgating fans about 10 am. Made some new friends had breakfast with them and about 1130 they were all at game. No tailgating is allowed during the game If a Bears game is in town definitely get here 2 days in advance. Saturday arrival would be turned away. Camped here with about 15 other Rv's for 4 days Some people moved to edge during game. We were in middle of lot and did not have to move. Parking attendants very polite and directed cars around my rig I would stay again for convenience of being so close to town to explore the city. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

In out privileges all weekend. Park at first lot north of semi truck parking Used Uber for nearby attractions as parking in Chicago at night can be pricey. Used Chicago parking app for street metered parking. Usually $2- $4/hour during day with this app but makes it really convenient when using your toad

Like others have said, it is what it is, a truck yard. But, it is close to the beach at Lake Michigan, close to the Navy Pier, and about a 15 dollar Uber ride to downtown. Was not too trashy, was pretty quiet, and there were about 2 dozen RVs there when we spent the night. Would definitely stay again as there is no place else close. This place is, after all, a truck yard. You do have to plan (& call) ahead. But, you're only a couple miles down the lake front from the Navy Pier, & dead across Lakeshore Dr from the 31st St beach. For the money, this close to downtown, Urban Boondocking works for this camper. Will stop here again. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

The guy said this lot is available year round, but I'd definitely check during football season, as Soldier Field is less than a mile up the street, & this lot may be used for game day parking.

We welcomed the "adventure". We felt the location warranted the discomfort. We are generally comfortable staying at Walmarts, casinos and truck stops as necessary. In attempting to use the online system to purchase "tickets" (one ticket for each 24 hour period), we had tech problems. Customer Service was responsive, resolved the situation, issued our tickets and refunded a duplicate charge to our credit card. So far, so good. The day before we were to check-in, we drove to the lot in our toad to check for low bridges and preview the layout. The lot attendant told us the lot was closed and that, if we showed up the next day, we would be turned way regardless of our protest that we had prepaid tickets. He suggested we call his mgr. We did and never received a return call. We decided not to go. We did not want to be stuck in downtown Chicago with a 40' rig plus toad. We contacted Customer Service and were granted a full refund. I suspect the "closed lot" tied into the the fact that there was a Bears Monday Night Football game two days out (not that makes it ok). Bottom line - this is not an RV park and doesn't act like one. We would be willing to try it again one day but would have a contingency plan. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Chicago traffic is a total cluster. Be careful of low bridges. Have a Plan B if you can't get into the yard. If you stay outside of Chicago, use public transit.

I won't repeat too much other than what was said already. You're parking in a truck marshaling yard with ZERO amenities. You can call 1-312-808-3138 for rates and availability. My understanding is that sometimes the marshaling yard is so full that they won't allow RVs in, but I've never had any trouble. I'd call ahead though to make sure. When I stayed here it was $35 per night, cash only.

Keep in mind that you can't drive your RV on Lake Shore Drive as there are no trucks/RVs/pick-up trucks allowed. You'll get a ticket if a cop spots you.

The entrance to the guardhouse is about 1000 feet north of 31st Street on Moe drive. After you pay at the guardhouse, turn right and keep driving north until you see all the other RVs likely to be parked there. I wouldn't park amongst the trailers, although I guess you could if you wanted to. There are a few small grass/tree "islands" towards the north end of the lot if you want to park under a small tree. You can put your slides out and run your generator no problem. There are trash barrels scattered about where you can dump your trash.

It's about $13 for an Uber from the marshaling yard lot to downtown Chicago, although you'd better give the Uber driver a call once you're assigned a driver as they're not going to be familiar with the location at all. Just tell them to find their way to 31st street and pick you up on Moe Road. The marshaling yard isn't gated along Moe Road, so you can just walk straight from your RV to Moe Road to pick up your ride. You also could walk south on Moe Drive to 31st, then east directly to Lake Michigan (5 minute walk in total) where there is a very nice beach and walking/biking trails that run both directions all the way to the city. On a nice day there will be many people swimming, biking, etc. I'd be a little hesitant to do that at night, though.

Security patrols the parking lot. The parking lot is well lit. I felt perfectly safe with my family there. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

This is a truck parking lot, we called ahead but reservations didn't seem like an option. It was pretty crowded but during the week it looks like it would be better. There were security vehicles driving around quite often. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

The Lakeshore Trail is just across Lake Shore Drive and you can access it from 31st St. A mile north on Moe Dr. is 18th St. where you can catch a bus or enter Grant park and the entire trail system. West through McCormick Place you can find the Red and Green Line trains to the city about a mile down Cermack.

We are dry camping a couple days at the McCormick Place Marshalling Yard, in the downtown area. Ours is one of 6 coaches (parked by the truck scales) amongst at least 4-500 truck trailers. This is a working truck yard, but our section has seen little traffic.

Not a resort, but the closest-in access for a downtown visit--that alone makes for 3 stars. For that privilege they charge $35/night. Not a place for lengthy stays--the setup is for trucks, not RVs--but great as an in-town base for visiting downtown. You are not more than 10 minutes from nearly everything there. We see no problems with it, but I've read reviewers who are, I suspect, leery of being 1) in a truck parking lot and 2) in Chicago period. We felt perfectly safe--in fact, in two days we saw at least a dozen cops. This is probably the best option if you want to visit the major attractions here. The yard is huge; all the RVs were in the vicinity of the scales--you wouldn't want to be between trailers. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

If you are comfortable camping overnight at a Wal-Mart parking lot, you'll have no problem here. It's a giant truck and bus lot right next to McCormick Convention Center and has gated security. For downtown Chicago access, this place can't be beat. For a pleasurable camping experience, this is not it. I gave it an Average rating because it's a trade-off between location and amenities. There are no services at all, trucks come and go regularly, and you're squeezed between tractor trailers. However, you can take up multiple spaces to put your slides out. There was a small enclave of half a dozen RVs when we arrived, and we parked along with them - safety in numbers! There's a few grassy margins to walk your dog, but I didn't feel comfortable to wander too far from the fenced area at night. Lock the doors, close the curtains, and you'll be fine. We stayed here 2 nights without any issues, and had a great time touring downtown. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

This is a hard one to rate. It is just a truck/trailer yard where the truckers drop their trailer off and store it on a short term basis or just overnight. The lot itself is only a place to park and stay while in the Chicago area.

However it is right near the heart of Chicago. The closest RV park is at least 40 miles out of the city and with the traffic it would be an hour or more drive in. This is so convenient, which is worth a lot to us. Dry camp and put up with the trucks coming and going. Is it worth it? You decide.

It is gated with security. We felt safe. It is easy to get to.

We too parked our RV here but did not stay in it. We parked it here for five nights while we visited our son & daughter-in-law who live in Wrigleyville. I have to say that we were a bit nervous leaving it in this lot even though you pass through a guard station to get into it. When we pulled in, the lot was about 80% full with truck trailers. We parked between a few trailers and hoped for the best when we came back, 5 days later. We were the only RV in the lot that we could see. All was fine when we returned. I have to say, I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable actually camping in this lot. Unfortunately the closest other place we found near our kids was 65 miles away. Chicago is not an RV friendly town! We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

I want to post this place to boon dock because it is so close to downtown Chicago and very inexpensive. Be sure to call the yard and get detailed directions as there are low bridges in the area. This is the Marshalling yard for McCormick place but they allow RVers to stay there. There are NO hookups and NO dump. But a great place to stay boon docking. Operated by the City of Chicago. 24/7 security. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.
