We stayed for a few days on our way through the area in a FHU site (#29). The site was just long enough to back in our 40 ft 5th wheel, but not to park our truck. Sewer hook-up at the back of the site, so I needed two 10 ft hoses to reach. Wifi was slow but generally available. Office only open 9am - 3pm, so when we arrived about 3:30, we just picked a site and checked in the next morning. Good location close to all the attractions of historic Galena. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Was assigned a level gravel/grass site. Water hookup was on the on passenger side, need 50 hose to connect. Electric and sewer was on the driver side as expected. First site assigned could not get satellite signal and had to change sites. Weekend RV'ers there on Friday and Saturday with cars in the way. These are longtime RV sites at the main entrance road. Just have to be very careful as you drive through. Come Sunday all the cars are gone making it easier to navigate. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Main street in Galena is a very nice street with several restaurants and shops. Parking most of the time was simple.

This is mostly seasonals and some campers who work nearby - nice people. The full hookup sites are way too close together - packed in like sardines! Very hard to fit the tow vehicle. The few pull-throughs are much more spacious. The park itself is nice and in a nice park-like setting. The sites are all tree covered, which is nice. Very convenient to Galena attractions. Walking distance to Walmart and Culvers. One major problem is that the sewer pipe is about a foot off the ground - making it very difficult to drain into it! Very bad set-up. We would stay here again, but probably skip the full hookup site and get a W&E only (seemed less crowded) and use the dump station. We did not use the pool or restrooms or the playground (which was pretty far from the sites, but in a nice setting). There was miniature golf right next to the park. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Galena is awesome, but Dubuque, IA is also very close by - be sure to make time for it also! Adequate bike riding in Galena in spite of the hills!

Overnight stay, water/electric site. Very friendly office staff, obviously a popular seasonal/family vacation place. Felt like a real campground...sites were narrow with grass. Would stay here again due to proximity to Galena's many historic sights/downtown. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

We camped here with some friends and our dogs. We loved the grounds with plenty of open space to wander around. The pool was decent and the facilities were nice. Close to downtown Galena - just a short drive or bike ride. Walmart and Culver's were right next door which was very convenient. We would definitely stay here again in if the area. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Made a two night stop at Galena as part of a larger trip. Back-in site, and they are really close together. Paved road, gravel site. Site was barely long enough for the 5th wheel and the truck parked sideways in front. Truck ended up barely clear of the site next to us on one side and felt like it was sticking right in the door of the motorcoach on the other side. It had rained recently, and we ended up on a fairly muddy site - worst one we saw when we walked around (it needed some fresh gravel). Too many trees on most sites to get satellite reception, and there's no cable; got a few air signals. They do have a pool, and putt-putt golf, which we didn't use. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

The good: The location of this campground is great for visiting the Galena area. There is a Walmart directly next door which is convenient for grabbing groceries. We had reservations, check-in was friendly and easy. We are a 36' motorhome towing, information I supplied when making the reservation.

The bad: Sites are TIGHT. If you have a large RV of any type, plan to get there early and plan to have an audience. There are about 20 seasonal sites here, and if you're near those sites they'll come offer their 'assistance' and are sure to enforce what they feel are the rules. Power and water were convenient, sewer was at the center back of the site, I didn't have an extension so couldn't use it. Our tow car wouldn't fit on the site so we had to park down the street in a grass area. The sites were more dirt than gravel and it rained, so it was a huge mess. Fire pits were a dirt area in back of site, no ring. Picnic table was available but in bad shape.

Location and price was fine, but we'll never go back. Sites are too short and too close together, and the attitude of some seasonal site owners left a lot to be desired. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

A very nice and tidy campground! We were impressed driving into this RV park. The office was nice and staff was friendly. We are here for 4th of July weekend and are packed in here like sardines. It is still very enjoyable and there is adequate space between rigs. Lots of activities if you are traveling with kids. Convenient location has a Walmart next door. The town is beautiful. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Must go downtown for your binge shopping. Be patient when looking for parking. Lots of great restaurants. Pick up tourist magazine of Galena to get detailed info of where to go. Lots of outdoor activities available!

If we hadn't been so tired and had looked in the bathrooms before we checked in we wouldn't have stayed here. Our check in was poor: after starting to look at the computer to see what was available for us, clerk stopped our discussion and took a phone call for a future reservation, making me wait over 10 minutes - I tried to get her to take the caller's number and finish my transaction, but had no luck.

Site assigned was a back-in FHU - no discounts available. We drove to site and picnic table was in middle of gravel path so we had to move it before we could park our rig.

The site was OK for us, partially because there was no one parked on either side of us. Had there been rigs on either side of us, it would have felt a lot tighter.

Went to use bathrooms / showers and turned around after looking at them. Toilets were very tight, you had to straddle the seat to close the door to the stall. Showers were gross with old moldy looking corners. Shower nozzle height was very low - maybe 4' up from the ground - good luck fitting under them for a good shower. Perhaps we're more critical of campground facilities because we've worked as work camper at some, but we felt like we needed tetanus shots after being in the restrooms. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Truck Camper.

Not too thrilled with this campground - too crowded, pool is packed every day, trees in the way of the awning, etc. We chose to leave the park every single day as it was not relaxing at all. It's the only one near Galena, IL. However, next time we are heading back to Palisades State Park and will drive up to Galena for the day. Even though Palisades is bigger, it's much more roomy and not so noisy. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

This is the only campground in Galena which makes it a good base for exploring but also allows the owners to defer upgrades. Most of the full hook up sites are along the main road. All of the sites are tight and trees make using an awning a challenge. The full hook up sites have the most trees and the least amount of grass. The swimming pool looked clean, but since they allow the public to use it for a fee it was packed every day. There were lots of water only and tent sites that looked good for group camping. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

This park is all there is in Galena. Even at that it is too highly priced for the lack of amenities. It is right off the highway but quiet. It's next door to Walmart. The sites are small and not level. Ticks are plentiful. Nothing is done to control them. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Campground hasn't changed in 30 years. Full hookup sites are big enough for a tent or pop up at best. Bathrooms are dirty and run down, pool is old and needs work. They advertise Wi-Fi but it doesn't work, and they have no intentions of fixing it. Beware of this place as you would have a better camping experience in the Walmart parking lot next door! We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

This is a clean well maintained park with a mixture of sites both 30 and 50 amp including pull-throughs and back ins. We stayed here 4 nights and found the park situated very well to visit Galena and the area. Would stay here again and highly recommend this area to visit, the town of Galena is wonderful. The campground is close to downtown Galena - reason for our stay. We were there for two nights with full hook ups in a pull through site. Only saw the staff at check in. There is no operating security gate for coming and going which gives me concern about non-campers coming into park. The back in sites are very, very close together. Would not recommend. Fair number of seasonal campers. Grounds were well kept and clean. People were friendly. It is an "ok" park. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Motorhome.
