Overall Rating:

A nice NFS campground with clean restroom/showers, operated by a concessionaire. As the previous poster noted, the rate was more than expected with the Senior Pass - $16, that's $6 off the usual $22 a night rate. Our site has a large gravel pad (80 feet long) with a large table and a rusted fire pit. Most other pads are also pretty large and had new fire pits. 20 and 30 amp service, voltage was always between 122 and 124 volts, the EMS never showed any errors. ATT cell service was non-existent and had to drive several miles for a signal. Several campers were there for the long haul, judging by their piles of firewood, and I never saw anyone at 4 of those. A three mile trail encircles the lake, and there's a beach on the other side of the lake, open in summer and gated off to vehicles the rest of the year. Canoe and rowboat rental from concessionaire. Roads are a bit confusing, as many drivers went the wrong way on the loops. We camped at Oak Point Campground, Lake Glendale Recreation Area, Shawnee Natl. For in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Good hiking at nearby Bell Smith Springs (which has camping also but no water or electric hookups), Millstone Bluff, Jackson Falls, and Burden Falls which is right next to a blacktop road. Really a good base to visit the Shawnee Forest from.

Overall Rating:

This CG is located just off HWY 145, about 4 miles north of HWY 146 in southern Illinois, about 25 miles north of Metropolis. There are 34 sites with W/E and 24 primitive sites. It is next to Lake Glendale and is run by a contractor, so our rate was $14 with the senior pass and not the usual $10. The park has a new bath house along with the old one, and I mean OLD. Great place to stay and visit the southern part of the state. Better to stay here than the local State Park. We camped at Oak Point Campground, Lake Glendale Recreation Area, Shawnee Natl. For in a Fifth Wheel.
