Stayed here one night on the way south. Had the park to ourselves on a Monday night. Site 37 was a pull thru, spacious and heavily shaded. Electric hook up only,. Lots of big trees. Camp appears very clean and remote. Would stay here again. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in Site 54, a handicapped site, with a FW. The camp was well cared for and clean. Park rangers were great. You pay them the first morning for no reservation stays. The camp host was useless. There were handicap sites not available because other campers had boats parked in the sites. Host did not care. Rangers tried to help. There was a centrally located bath house / toilet building. Most sites were 30A. There were FEW 50A sites. Water hydrants were scattered around the camping area. It had a nice playground, and many trails in the park. Handicap sites were paved with paved patio. Other sites were gravel. TRAVEL NOTE: There is a 13' 6" railroad bridge near Hwy 37 between Hwy 37 and I 24 Exit 7. The bridge is NOT on Hwy 37. First loop is all walk in sites. Right side sites fall off in the back. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed on May 2nd for just one night. It rained but it couldn't take away from the spring beauty of the park. Never came in contact with any employees, but the site was marked reserved and ready when we arrived. Water taps to fill tank and a dump station. Would consider coming back and staying longer. Stayed in site 45 in north loop with a 22 foot trailer. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this state park on numerous occasions. It was clean but sparsely populated with other campers, which is not unusual once the leaves have dropped. Our site was an easy, pull-thru site and we utilized the 50-amp hookup. The shower house is closed from about Thanksgiving until the next Spring. It's fairly easy to get in and out of this park although there are a few tight turns in places that large rigs will have to watch for. We recommend this campground. Note: There is currently less than a dozen sites that have 50-amp availability while the rest have 30-amp. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This campground is divided into two section, one with sites in a line along the road and another with the more traditional loop. We chose an outside site on the loop and were happy with our selection. The Park has a lake with a trail around it and several other hiking trails. There is no real visitor center. If you have reserved a site there will be a tag on your post; if you do not have a reservation, someone is supposed to come around and collect. We saw some folks that never paid because no one came around to collect. There is a camp host, but he never came around and did not seem to collect money or put out tags. The sites are fairly level gravel sites with some shade. We had partial shade but were able to get DirecTV satellite through a hole with our portable dish. We had strong Verizon voice and data. During our visit, late in the season, the campground was almost empty during the week but completely filled on the weekend. It was pleasant enough for our stay but probably not a destination park. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We stayed at the Park to bike on the wonderful Tunnel Hill State Park trail about 20 minutes away. Crab Orchard National Wildlife refuge, about 30 minutes away in the other direction, is great to visit and you can bike the 6-mile loop road.

Nice Campground off the beaten path but still close to interstates 57 and 24. Sites are large paved with gravel and generally level. Good electric. Fresh water hydrants throughout the park and at the dump station. Clean well kept dump station area. No full hookups. Electric only. Spots are well shaded. One bathroom/shower area it is ok but needs to be updated. There are some pit toilets also. We were here for the 2017 eclipse. The park was in the path of totality. It was crowded but didn't feel overcrowded. No pool, there is a lake for fishing and some scenic trails. Not sure we would make a trip here just to visit because even though scenic, not much going on. Good place to relax and if we are in the area would stay here again. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We did a 1-night stopover and wished we could stay longer. Beautiful park, good trails, fairly level RV sites. We were near the playground, which was good as we had 4 granddaughters with us. Fill up with water on the wat in. There are hydrants at the dump station and scattered through the campground, but NOT at the individual sites. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park with plenty of shades and spacious sites. Sites are mostly gravel. Easy access from Interstate 24. Hiking trails throughout the park and good fishing, lake is within walking distance. We didn't use the bath and shower facilities we but checked them out; they appear to be clean and taken care of. I would give a 10 if it was full hookup and 50 amp option. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Motorhome.

This park is very nice. The site are spacious. The trees are large. I think most sites are shaded at least half of the day. It was very clean. The dump station is very clean and accessible. There are hiking trails accessible right off the campground, no need to drive. We also visited Shawnee National Forest nearby.

We did have difficulty finding firewood. They don't mind scavenging, but we arrived late at night and wanted to buy a bundle. There is a Methodist church in town where the Boys Scouts sell firewood. Pretty good deal. We would camp here again if we came down to the area. It was nice. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Ferne Clyffe is a truly beautiful park. This is not an RV Park/Resort it is a campground. It does accommodate large RV's with some pull through sites. There are electric sites, tent sites, and backpack camping opportunities. Most sites were fairly level, we were able to level without any blocks, others used some but didn't seem to struggle. All sites have some shade. Clean, spacious campsites. Potable water located throughout campground. One set of pit toilets on each campground loop and a nice and clean bathroom and shower house in the middle. Aluminum recycling and garbage dumpster. Sewer dump station. Multiple playgrounds, picnic areas, and shelters throughout the park. Excellent hiking trails; if you don't do any you at least need to do the one at the back parking lot that leads to the waterfall, this is a nice level path, more like a maintenance road. Gorgeous rock formations, butterflies, and other wildlife. Stream is big enough to splash in but not swim. Lake is for fishing only, no boats - not even kayaks and no swimming. The lake is very pretty. Some folks took their kayaks to Cache River Wetlands and reported they had a good time. If you like some beer etc while camping make sure you bring it with you. The nearby town of Goreville is dry. Also, there was no campground host while we were at the park so get your ice in Goreville and your firewood from the boyscout, on your honor, wood lot in Goreville, across the road from Cheers gas station and behind the other local gas station. At the time we were there it was $4.00 a bundle and you put your money in the lock box. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This State Park is a bit of a drive from the Interstates, but worth it for us to be in a nice park. The roads to the campground are all good but a bit lacking in directional signs. The interior roads are paved and the pads are gravel. There are two camping areas, one along a road paralleling the main road and one on a more-traditional loop. We thought the second area was nicer so chose it for our camping spot. Several of the sites were not very level, but we found a relatively level site since the park only had ten or so other campers during our off-season visit. The sites are relatively well separated but there is not much vegetation for privacy. A very nice and helpful attendant came by to collect our camping fee. There is no water at the sites, but it is available at the dump station. There are several nice hiking trails in the park and nearby is a nice wildlife refuge (Crab Orchard) and wonderful bike trail (Tunnel Hill – start in the town of Vienna and go north to the tunnel). The campground is heavily treed, but we were able to find a hole in the trees for our portable dish to work. Our Verizon phone and data (4G) worked well. We had originally planned on staying only one night but extended our stay because of the attractions in the area. We would certainly stay here again. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Motorhome.

I got here late and left early due to travel restraints. Wished I could have stayed longer. Grass was mowed and neat. Lots of shade. I stayed in a tent in an RV site in case I needed a fan. Everything appeared in great shape. Hope I get the chance to visit again. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Tent.
