April 12, 13- Wednesday, Thursday We stayed at Illiniwek Forest Preserve situated right on the Mississippi River in Hampton, Illinois. This park is near Rock Island, IL. Camping is from April 1 - Oct 31. The office is not open until 4pm to 10 pm in early April and we were told to set up, pick a site and check in at the office when it is open. There 60 campsites with water and electric, two older shower houses that you need a key for, a dump station, playground, boat launch, hiking and biking trails, a picnic shelter which can be rented. If one wants to dry camp or tent there are 25 sites and 17 are right on the river. All the sites have a view of the river and if you want to fish you can catch your dinner (license needed). The campground is close to the John Deere sites and Rock Island. This campground is first come and we would return to camp here. The bike trail runs through the campground and it is a good one biking along the Mississippi River. They did give us a senior rate for $17 a night. Great stay. We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Motorhome.

A pleasant surprise on the Mississippi River...gravel sites are a little narrow and all back-in but there is plenty of open space so it didn't feel cramped. The check-in process is interesting...go find an open site & then come back to the office after 4:00PM & fill out the papers. We will stay here next trip. We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Motorhome.

The staff is pretty good here and they keep the garbage picked up, main issues are the campers are so close to each other it's a little cramped. When someone is sitting at a picnic table it is literally 3-5' from your camper.

The pet allowance seems to be an issue at this park also as there seems to be no enforcement of dog barking here at any hour. There is actually a camper with a dog pen here that has a German Shepard in that barks quite often. Kind of ridiculous. We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Hampton is very close down the road so a layover night is good, a weekend getaway campsite not so good. Barges make noise in the night and trains go by also.

Wonderful, well kept campground on Mississippi River. Sites are a bit small, but it wasn't crowded so every other site left plenty of space. This time of year it is heavy with fish flies; be ready to have a campfire to keep them away. Very nice bike path runs through the campground which you can ride for 10 to 20 miles in either direction. Nice location, we would stay here again for a weekend. We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

Great county run park. A wonderful view of the Mississippi River and not far from towns for shopping/eating. Sites are spacious and level, gravel. Great value! Would return here if in the area. We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.

Technically, I should probably give this a little lower rating - because of no sewer hook-up and unlevel sites - but it was one of our favorite stops, so...! We extended our stay and were loathe to leave. It's a very pretty park, right along the MS River, with nice 50 amp sites for an unbelievably low price!! There's also a nice bike trail that runs right through the park and alongside the river. We got a little confused getting here - turns out there's an exit off the I-80 (Exit #1) onto Route 84 that takes you straight to the park! Somehow our GPS had other ideas... Also, it's not obvious where to go when you first get here. The campground is on the river side (there is more of the park across the road for picnicking, etc.). Just go "straight" on the main road till you get to the office (a ways in). If no one is there, just pick out your spot and pay them when they get back. We would definitely stay here again if in the area! We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Motorhome.

Campground is located on the shore of the Mississippi River. Most campsites have great views of the river. Campsites vary with amount of shade. Campsites can accommodate large rigs and are quite level. There is also a Corp of Engineer Park called Fisherman's Corner located just to the east of this park. We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Motorhome.

This is a local gem run by Rock Island county. Located along the Mississippi River with great views from many sites. The sites are large, well spaced gravel pads with 50 amp electric and water. Grass between sites with large trees to provide shade. Satellite reception was possible from most sites as the trees are on the North side. Regular digital TV reception is excellent. Our large motor homes was at home in this campground. The price listed was the senior rate, but the full rate was only $11/night. We looked at the COE campground just a mile away and decided that this was better due to easy access and water at each site for only $1 more. These sites are within 100 yards of the water with an open view whereas some of the COE sites are on the water. There is a long bike trail that cuts through the park which is an added bonus. We camped at Illiniwek Park and Forest Preserve in a Motorhome.
