1 Park near Hudson, Illinois
Oct 2015 - $25.00
Just needed a campsite for one night so this was a pretty good choice for our 40' fifth wheel. Site was a long pull thru that was fairly level. Easy access to I-39 and not much noise from the highway. Electric was 50 amp, no water at the campsites but there was a spigot nearby. Very pretty campground with some fall colors. - Patricia Sterkowitz

Overall, we were happy with our experience at Comlara Park. The roads at the back part of the campground were a bit rough, with some fairly deep pot-holes. The bathrooms left a lot to be desired. They are basically just vault toilets, which is fine, but they could have been cleaner.
The staff at the visitor center, and the check-in booth were very helpful and quite friendly. They offer small boat rentals at the launch area. The young man working the rentals managed to keep everyone happy, even though he was by himself and quite busy.
There are lots of fishing opportunities, and the park offers quite a few programs for the young ones. There are lots of kids in the park, so be careful driving through. We had several young children dart out in front of our vehicle. No fault of the park, just a word of caution.
The visitor's center has ice, firewood, and live bait for sale at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, with all the rain lately, the firewood was damp and very difficult to light.
We would definitely stay here again, but will choose a site at the lower campground area as there is more shade available, and more suitable for a smaller travel trailer. Make sure to apply bug spray, and sunscreen. If you're not used to Illinois summers, the mosquitoes might catch you by surprise. Also, drink a lot of water. Even though it may only be 80 degrees, you can quickly become dehydrated when there 70%+ humidity. - subzeroLV

Young man in office was very pleasant but not too helpful, didn’t even give map of park with directions to site. Slightly expensive for electric only. Seems to be a local's weekend place and probably gets very busy. We arrived 2pm Sunday afternoon, the dumpster was overflowing and there were still quite a few noisy children/teenagers hanging about. Many people left around 5pm (check out is 3pm and is not enforced). The only security we saw was the young man from the office drove through once about 6pm. Water faucets sporadically placed around park, you fill your tank and unhook hose so others can use. No sewer hookups, a dump station is available by boat launch away from campground. Vault toilets which looked newer but dirty and filled with bugs/spiders/cobwebs and one central bathhouse for entire park. Nice lake views, grass/gravel sites, mostly level, extremely long pull throughs which were not level. Nothing to do here but an okay overnight mid-week stop. - paularonson
