Chalk this up to bad research on my part. I selected our MH length (36'), water and 30A electric on reserveamerica.com, and site 10 popped up. I didn't realize it was about the only site in the reserved area with its own water supply. I also didn't realize that it I'd be unable to connect to the electricity no matter how I pulled the coach in because the pedestal was so far away. After 45 minutes of trying to make it fit, we decided to walk around the empty park to find another site. We happened upon what must have been the camp host site with 50A power, water, sewer and cable (we didn't use the cable, just saw it). The camp hosts were leaving for the year as we pulled in initially, so we didn't feel bad taking their spot. Even with the dedicated host site, the water was so far away we had to use an extension. (Most of the water spigots say not to remain connected. Site 10 and this site didn't say that). The few occupied sites were constantly driving back and forth. We realized it's because the reserved area has only outhouses while the first come area has a bathhouse. Bottom-line, this is probably a great CG for boondocking and smaller campers. Not for MHs. As others stated, the approach from the south is not bad. We exited to the northwest and were on some pretty sketchy roads for a few miles. We camped at Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Good: Inexpensive, well-shaded Bad: electric only at the sites, and power posts are one per two sites. This campground seems targeted to serve boaters, hunters and fishers. General condition was good but not stellar. The campground is heavily forested, and generally quiet except for the powerboats on the nearby lake. Camp roads are asphalt and sites are gravel, generally flat and even, with electric but no water or sewer. Because power posts serve two adjacent sites, you'll need extension cords to connect if you're on the wrong side of the power post. (On our loop the power posts were on the correct (left) side for backing into the even-numbered sites.) 54 reservable RV sites, 61 first come, first served, and another 4 cabins/shelters. Mid-week in May, there was no problem getting a site without a reservation. Verizon service was good. We camped at Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Most road signs and Google maps say "Forbes State Park", but reserve America and Illinois DNR lists it as "Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area". Of the two roads in, the best is clearly Omega Rd from the south. The road from exit 127 on I-57 is washboardy, curvy and narrow in spots.

A very nice wooded state park and recreation area surrounding a 585 acre lake. The lake has several fingers and is popular for fishing and boating. The campground has access to the marina via a short trail from the end of the reservable loop, and then by walking across a floating bridge. One of the two boat ramps is located there. The restaurant at the marina was not yet open for the season, but they were getting ready to open. The campground itself is very shady, and the sites were clearly defined and surfaced with pea gravel. That said, the electric hookups are doubles and shared with the neighboring site. So you had best come prepared with lots of extension cords if you pick your site unseen from the online map. Water pumps are dispersed throughout the campground and are for communal use. There is one shower house with flush toilets, but 6 sets of vault toilets. One camping cabin was available to rent. The other two first-come, first-served loops have a staircase down the steep slope to the lake with a small floating dock at the bottom. However, the one next to our site, was blocked off and closed. The lake would be ideal for exploring via kayak. Hiking was available, but it was wet and muddy, so we didn't check out the trails. We camped at Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
